Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
I've been using FFS to pick stocks on the stock market. I'm just trying to make as much money as possible before Wall Street bands it. 😃

Full moon almost skunk.
Your fish is much nicer than the one that guy in the ugly cap is holding. 😆

I don't think the $20 mil includes NIL money.

College Football-Anyone watching.
It will interesting to see how NIL money changes college football in the next few years. I don't know how accurate the numbers are but from what I've read Texas is paying the most at around $40 million/year. I wonder what that number will be in five years.

Let's see your dogs. (other pets too)
You may need to look into getting your dog a CPAP machine. 😆

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
An example I've used before in terms of the liability of tournament organizations is Dominos Pizza. Those of us who are older remember when they had a policy that if you didn't get your pizza delivery in 30 minutes or less it was free. They penalized the driver if a pizza was not delivered on time. The drivers took risk and had accidents. People got hurt. Who do you think the lawyers sued, the guy who delivers pizza for a living or the large corporation he worked for? Dominos lost several lawsuits and eventually changed their policy. Sure the drivers were primarily responsible for the accidents but the lawyers go where the money is. That's why MLF is being sued. Clearly the tournament rules reward anglers who take risk so I don't like their chances in court.

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
There is already a system in place for sharing location information for collision avoidance purposes. It's called AIS and is required on larger vessels. Any boat can add it. I've never heard of someone putting it on a bass boat much less a kayak. AIS transponders start around $500-$1000. I can't imagine that requiring every boat to have one would go over well. The solution to fatal collisions is incredibly simple. Watch your speed and watch where you're going. Those who do not look for other boats in their path will probably not look for them on a screen either. Bass tournaments encourage dangerous behavior and it's only a matter of time before a tournament organization is found liable for an accident.

Alabama Rig - Legality
I have issued you a full refund. I should stick to practicing law in Tennessee.

Alabama Rig - Legality
I’m not an attorney either but I still give free legal advice that is worth every penny.😁 You can use 2 hooks per line. That’s a very strict rule. I don’t think you can even fish a crank bait or jerk bait with 3 hooks. In Tennessee it’s 3 hooks. We have a stated exception for Sabiki rigs. I rarely fish an Alabama rig.

Sunny vs Overcast?
I guess I’m human because I will never accept that. If I go fishing and I catch 5 fish on a red worm and 2 fish on a blue worm, that’s data. Does that prove a red worm is better, no that’s a common misinterpretation of data but the data still tells me something. Josh Alwine’s data are statistics about capturing a fish with a rod so it should tell us something about the subject. I am little skeptical of it since he doesn’t tell us much about the source of the data. I absolutely do not think it proves fishing is better when the sun is shining. It is however some evidence that suggests that might be the case and sways my opinion on the subject a little. It’s much more persuasive than an old guy at the ramp who says they never bite around here on a sunny day.
-
Sunny vs Overcast?
I can't explain Josh Alwine's findings. Maybe people are better at fishing sunny days than they are fishing cloudy days even if they think the fishing is better when it's cloudy. I get excited about fishing when it's cloudy and overcast. I can't prove from my fishing logs that I do better on cloudy days. I don't think cloud cover matters at dusk and dawn. It matters less when the wind is blowing. I seek out shade or deeper water when it's sunny. I prefer fishing boat docks when it's sunny. It's complicated. All I can say is you have to fish the conditions that are given to you or go home.

Connecting a lithium battery to a charger
Yes, assuming you don't have a 50 amp charger. There are tricks you can do to make it more secure - like crimp a small butt connector on the small wire then insert that into the Anderson connector and crimp again. Crimping and then soldering is also an option.

Why do most bass hit within a few feet of where my surface lures land?
I agree with this. I would add that how hungry the fish is also influences how aggressive it is. Fish have competing instincts. The fear instinct tells them to go hide so nothing will eat them. The aggressive instinct tells them to eat the food before someone else does. If there is a noisy boat around that boost the fear instinct. If the fish is very hungry and there is a lot of competition for food, that boost the aggressive instinct. Which instinct prevails and triggers a response depends on many factors. Clearly @Swamp Girl is good at boosting the aggressive instinct to bite and bite quickly.

College Football-Anyone watching.
Nico is losing in front of 35,000 fans, probably making a lot less money and is certainly paying more in state income tax.

Met a new friend on the lake today
The last guy the duck saw in a Kayak gave him something to eat. Now it's expected. I was fishing with a buddy once who tossed a potato chip to a nearby duck. Within 15 seconds every duck on the lake was gathered around my boat... I don't take that guy fishing any more. 😆

Garmin GPX Import Error
Does it fail to load when it over 25 characters? I can maybe understand if it ignores the extra characters but it shouldn’t fail to load.
-
Garmin GPX Import Error
Have you tried using a comment that is less than 25 characters and does not have anything but text. (No special characters or any kind)? If it worked with the & in the name as you said then Garmin is not following the rules on how special characters work. That would explain a lot.
-
Garmin GPX Import Error
Your XML is not valid. You have some invalid characters that cannot be used directly in XML. & and " characters are used in XML notation so you must substitute & for the & character and " for the " character. I cannot explain why your first example worked because the & character should be a problem. The following should work. <wpt lat="32.829283" lon="-83.772517"> <name>Claystone marina docks & ramp</name> <cmt>Early/late: pitch 5–6" curly-tail Texas rig (red shad/green pumpkin) under floats work dock lights after dark. Midday backup: slow a shaky head along shade lines.</cmt> </wpt> If that doesn't fix the problem then Gamin is not following all the rules and you may just need to remove any special character that you cannot enter on the Garmin unit itself but I think it will work. There are a few zillion xml editor apps that will check what you type for you and if you reference the GPX schema they make sure you have a valid GPX format as well.

Bass Pro Tour 2025 FFS Numbers Have Spoken
I'm hoping they will allow the Alabama Rig in half the tournaments next year with another coin-flip show to determine which ones. Coin-flips are exciting to watch. 😆

2026 B.A.S.S FFS Rule Change
I watched a little of the coin-flip show. I like Zona but his coin flipping skills were lacking. His thumb technique was similar to the technique required for playing marbles. You need more altitude when flipping a coin so you get a little hang time. His coin-flips were more like coin-flops. 😆

Clarksville TN Area
It's been 35 years since I fished the Cumberland below Cheatham Dam. It does not have a great reputation for bass fishing. When I was a teenager I waded several creeks around Dickson for smallmouth. Jones Creek and Big Turnbull Creek were very good. I would think the creeks between Dickson and Clarksville would have a lot of potential but I've never fished them. I think I remember fishing Yellow Creek once but didn't catch anything. Not that close to you but the Buffalo River has some good fish and you can rent canoes and kayaks. It a very popular canoe rental destination.

Bass Fishing Books?
Another vote for Knowing Bass by Keith Jones The In-Fisherman Critical Concepts Bass series of 3 books covers all the basics without introducing unscientific opinions. Destroying Bass Fishing Myths by John Mark Warren challenges many common beliefs in the bass fishing world. I don't agree with all his conclusions but appreciate his thought provoking arguements.

Excellent Writing About Fishing?
I agree. It seems like trout anglers always have the best books for some reason. I really liked the movie also. When Norman comes home after being away at college for a few years and looks out over the river, the expression on his face spoke volumes to me. The places I've fished in the past are like old friends. It's special when you get to visit with one of them after being apart for a while. The movie captures that beautifully.

2026 B.A.S.S FFS Rule Change
This year the BPT showed us that there are a few tournaments where FFS matters a lot, there are a few tournaments where it doesn't matter at all and most tournaments it matters a little. It also showed us that there are a few anglers that are masters with FFS, there are a few that would be better off without it on their boat and that most anglers catch a few more fish when using it. I suspect that we will see similar results next year on the Elite tour. Now that the two major tours are limiting FFS use, the general public will eventually learn that FFS is not the end of the world and we can move on to the next thing that is going to end the world. 😊

2026 B.A.S.S FFS Rule Change
“B.A.S.S. will reveal which tournaments will allow FFS during a live show on Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. CT on Bassmaster.com. Hosts Tommy Sanders, Mark Zona and Davy Hite will learn the results in real time alongside fans. Events will be paired according to the schedule, with a coin flip deciding which one allows live sonar and which will not. The St. Lawrence River, the final stop of the season, will receive its own coin flip, meaning as many as five events could end up being non-FFS tournaments.” I’m assuming the first two will be paired then the next two etc. One from each pair will be old school. I think it’s a good move. Limiting — but not eliminating — FFS worked well for MLF this year. It should work well for BASS also.
