For the record. I never said I was fishing another Chinese made rod instead of Falcon. Never said no one should buy a Falcon rod. Never used the word protest. There are plenty of American made rods on the market. I prefer to use them. You should use what makes you happy.

I retired in April at age 59. I’m still adjusting to the change. It’s not exactly what I was expecting but I have no regrets. Everything changed when I retired. The best fishing weather used to be during the week. Now it’s the weekend. I think the average weekday temperature has been 120 this year. ?

Same here. Use to buy only Falcon rods. They moved manufacturing to China, I moved on.

I’m a map freak. I subscribe to Navionics and C-Maps. I have purchased several LakeMaster lakes for the Humminbird FishSmart app. LakeMaster is my favorite and Navionics is my least favorite. They all have advantages and disadvantages and the quality varies by lake. Bottom hardness is Navionics best feature if they have it for your lake. Contour accuracy is their biggest weakness. YMMV

People enjoy fishing in many different ways. Some enjoy catching as many fish as possible. Others enjoy catching big fish. Some use fishing as a way to enjoy using their tackle or boat. It sounds to me that your friend has a solid approach to catching fish. Fishing worms on a bobber is frowned on by bass fishing purest but it works. The lures you mentioned are classics and the classics usually work better than the latest fad lures, especially if you've spent a lifetime learning how to fish them. I encourage you to figure out what you enjoy about the sport. Buy what you need to maximize that enjoyment. That might require a $100K bass boat or just a cane pole.

The user interface is different. They will not communicate with each other if on the same network. Recorded sonar files are different and not compatible with each other. My impression is they mostly started over with the software for the Onix/Solix/Apex line. I have no way to know that for sure. When I first started using Solix in 2018, they were very buggy. They have improved a lot since then with software updates. I’ve never owned a Helix but from what I’ve heard they are very solid units.

I just created an account on Asian Portal with a yahoo email address that I haven’t used in 15 years. I then did a forgot password request and I have not received the email and it is not in the spam folder. I think we found the guilty party. Yahoo is blocking these emails from Asian Portal. At some point AP may realize that they need to make some changes to their email system. I suggest you create a gmail account and use that. You do not have to use the same email address as your PayPal account.

I just requested a password reset from Asian Portal. I got an email in less than 5 seconds. My email system flagged the email as failing anti-phishing checks. That’s pretty common but your email provider might block emails that don’t pass DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) standards which Asian Portal apparently does not. Email providers like gmail do not strictly block these emails. Private companies, government, and educational institution email systems are much more strict.

Can you tell me who is your email service provider? For example, is it gmail, yahoo, etc.

I would suggest trying to create a new account with the same email address to see if it will let you do it and to see if you get an email from them.

Have you tried hitting the “Forgot Password” button again?

Before I retired earlier this year I worked on a system that included a password reset function that sent emails like you described. We constantly got calls from the help desk concerning people who where not getting password reset emails. Sometimes something would be down on our side. The most common cause was the emails went into the spam folder. The second most common cause was that the person used a different email than they remembered using to create the account. Occasionally, the person’s email service provider just didn’t like our email server and would block all of our emails. This usually happened with foreign users or people using their work email and the company had strict filters in place. An email from Asia would be more likely to get blocked by a spam filter. It could just be that their email server went down.

Reading this thread and your last, you ask for rod recommendations but don’t seem to know what you want to do with the rod other than fish live worms. There are some good recommendations but it’s kind of like asking for shoe recommendations without knowing what you will do in them. Avid runners will assume you need a good running shoe and fashion gurus will assume you need a good dress shoe. You went to Walmart and bought some sneakers. A very practical choice. The Ugly Stick will work fine with live worms. It will get you started lure fishing. Which lures will depends on which model Ugly Stick you bought. If you become an avid angler you will probably not like any rod you purchased now. My recommendation is find out what type of fishing you enjoy and then you will be able to choose your next rod wisely.

YIKES!! You need to move. I paid $3.72 / gallon yesterday for regular 87 octane. I assume everyone is using the Gas Buddy app on your phone to find the cheapest gas. I highly recommend it.

I agree but there is no doubt that Lew Childre designed his products and some of his designs were revolutionary. With today’s Lews branded products, how much design is done by Lews and how much by Dojo? I have no idea.

I’m not brand loyal. I am loyal to the history and traditions of fishing. What does that have to do with fishing reels? I buy products from companies that have played a part in that history and tradition. The Chinese are very good at copying products designed by others. I’m sure I could catch just as many fish with a Chinese copy. I want to reward those who got us where we are and are working to move us forward. Shimano and Diawa are such companies. There are others. Most of the brands out there are just names slapped on reels designed and manufactured by others. Some were once great companies that were sold to companies that are only interested in the brand. There are many I’m not sure about. I had great respect for Lew Childre. After his death his company was sold and soon after that the Lews brand was retired. Then someone bought the brand and claims to honor the tradition. I’m not sure what to make of Lews and won’t be buying any Lews branded reels anytime soon.

I can’t fish in a kayak tournament because I don’t have a kayak and they won’t let me use my bass boat. I’m okay with that. Start a club or tournament trail with any restrictions you like and see how many like minded people will join.

It makes a difference if you’re fishing from the bank or a boat. I always fish from a boat and I have no need to throw a Ned rig 50 yards. It’s more effective to move closer to the target in a boat. I can cast lite bottom contact baits as far as I need to with my spinning rod. If you’re on the bank, more distance means more water can be fished.

If you prefer casting combos then look at BFS. I mostly use spinning for lite presentations because I’ve been doing it of 40+ years and it works. There’s more than one way to do just about everything in fishing. The key is finding what works for you.

I had a hand controlled TM on my first boat and loved it. It worked great for the way I fished then. Spot lock, autopilot, and the hand held remote on my Ultrex have mostly eliminated the need to keep one foot on the TM. I would love to have a second boat for fishing shallow water. It would have a hand controlled TM.

I was fishing a tournament and set the hook on a fish using a Texas rig. My partner ask if I needed the net. I said no, it’s a bream. Everything about that fish felt like a bream. I reeled it in quickly and easily and about 4 feet from the boat it took off and nearly yanked the rod out of my hand. It was a largemouth and weighted almost 6 pounds. Thinking about that fish over the years, I’ve concluded that the 6# largemouth hit the bream I had hooked. That possibility never crossed my mind at the time. There was no bream on the hook when I unhooked the fish. So I think I cheated in the tournament because I weighed a fish caught on live bait. I can’t prove it but that’s the only explanation that makes sense.

I read that ethanol is added locally post pipeline. It doesn’t do well in pipelines either apparently. E10 means up to 10% ethanol. Differences between brands in the actual percentage of ethanol in the fuel might account for the difference in fuel economy.
