Good question. It depends on how you defines better. As far as being good enough to win a tournament, I would say no. Mastery produces big catches that are require to win in my opinion. Being a master of one thing will not win every tournament but no one wins every tournament. As far as enjoying the sport, most people don't enjoy doing the same thing all the time so it's probably better to focus on more than one thing but not too many. Where am I today 40 years later? I feel like I’m very good at two or three things but still working to improve on them. I'm working on two or three more things that I have a lot to learn about before I would call myself good. I'm still tempted to try more things than I have time to master.

This might sound strange but I would have never joined B.A.S.S. I wasted a few of my early years trying to put into practice everything I read in each issue Bassmaster. I learned a little about everything but didn’t learn how to master anything.

I'll check it out more closely the next time I'm there. It's about 10ft deep but drops quickly.

The container did not become the wall. I assume it contained the material used to construct the wall. I didn't look closely at the new wall but I assume it's some kind of floating barrier to break the waves.

The real story is less interesting than the post on the thread. I had just parked the truck and was leaving the dock when the truck launched the container. The guy in the pontoon boat said they were installing a new "wave wall". The container eventually leveled off with about 60% of it submerged and the pontoon boat started towing it away from the ramp. That's when I left to go fishing. When I came back about 5 hours later, there was a new wall in front of a fueling dock about 300 yards from the ramp. The container, pontoon boat, and truck were gone.

I think you need to measure the difference in the area of a cross section of the line not the difference in the diameter. According to my math the 30# XT would be 89% more than the 14# XT. So by that measure it is not twice as strong but it’s close. The measured stretch of the 30# was 242% higher than the 14#. That can’t be right according to my math.

You see a lot of strange things at boat ramps. @Munkin posted an interesting photo last Friday and challenged us to explain it. I took this photo yesterday and I got an explanation of what was going on. I’m posting it to see if anyone can figure it out. I'll reveal the answer later.

If I reading the numbers correctly, both lines were tested with 1/3 of their ratings. So 10# of force was applied to the 30# mono and 4.6# of force was applied to the 14# mono. They should stretch about the same amount. One stretched 12 inches, the other stretched 41 inches. Someone explain how this makes sense.

According to his numbers. Light mono stretches 2% and heavy mono stretches 7%.

That is a laughable bad way to measure stretch. He sets the drag with a scale then uses the drag to measure the pull. Your trying to measure the amount of stretch as the drag is slipping. Why not just use the scale? Also, why do it horizontally where line sag comes into play. Looks like he was more interested in getting something for an online article than in being accurate. There’s a lot of that on the Internet. It’s easy to test line stretch. Get a weight and a place where you can test it vertically. I tested 20# Sunline Supernatural with a 5# weight off my upstairs balcony. I got about 6% stretch. I’ve never tested braid.

The truck flipped over under water. The trailer popped off the hitch but the safety chains stayed connected. That’s the only explanation I can come up with.

@Team9nine is spot on. It depends on how you fish and how well you know the water. If I was fishing a tournament trail I would go with traditional sonar because it would allow me to explore new water quickly. I’m not fishing tournaments so I would go with Live Sonar and take my time getting to know new water more thoroughly.

I don’t know how it works either but I would be willing to bet that it’s similar technology to that used in medical ultrasounds. Live returns in two dimensions.

The technology has existed for a long time. It’s just been too expensive for the bass fishing market.

Are the Google numbers motor running hours or boat in the water hours?

I love using cast iron. I only use Lodge because it’s made in Tennessee so it has to be the best. ?

Josh Alwine (BR Member) in his book High Percentage Fishing crunched some numbers from various sources and found that the most productive fishing day of the week is Thursday. I don't have the exact source at hand but one tracking study found the bass move deeper on the weekends. Probably because of all the strange contraptions moving through the water around them.

I’ve caught bass on a purple plastic worm of all things. I’m pretty sure there are no purple night crawlers swimming around in the lakes I fish.

I would think there was a problem with the lead. Corrosion or any bad connection that increases resistance will cause heat. Your breaker should be sized to throw before things start smoking.

I use the Vardon grip. No.. wait, that my golf grip. Never mind.

I cook on a Blackstone griddle a couple of times a week. When I want to get serious I fire up the Weber Charcoal Kettle. The best purchase I made this year was replacing the grate on the Weber with a cast iron one. It holds heat much better and practically cleans itself.

I got MEGA Live this spring. I had zero chance of catching a world record largemouth before I got it and I still have zero chance now because there is not a world record LM in the waters I fish. I have a slightly better chance of catching the biggest fish in the lake now but not that much. It also improves other anglers chances that have the technology. For bigger fish we need technology that helps the bass not the angler. Our Tennessee state record was recently broken because the TWRA found a better way to hybridize FLMB in Chickamauga. When someone catches a 20+ pound bass it says more about the lake it came from than the angler that caught it or the technology used to catch it.

The world record largemouth and smallmouth were caught without sonar of any kind. They didn’t even have trolling motors. It ain’t about technology.
