  1. I’ll pick up a few more, but think I should be focusing on silent jerkbaits. I didn’t know these have beads.
  2. I have never had any fish come anywhere near spooling me. Even very big ones. Though I am no going for Marlins and tunas, though. The chances I hook a fish that’s running 100’ at a time at 5-9 pounds drag is around zero percent. Let the jokes fly, since I only catch small fish. But seriously, I only really fish for fish where 10lbs is a trophy and 20 is a record.
  3. No arthritis, as confirmed by 3 doctors using imaging of my feet, hand and elbow—but from fishing heavy spinning gear as a kid, I have a mild dupuytrens contracture between the two middle fingers on my right hand. So I switched to bc reels in the left hand. Lighter gear hooks more fish. Period. I fell very sorry for guys out there fishing rigs for trophy blue cats when they’re going for bass. Just drop it down. Go for less line capacity. It never made sense to me that all these guys are buying cheaper backer line to fill a spool with all that extra line they will never use.
  4. I think so, too. I still don’t know why the USDM became so attached to heavy gear? Especially reels? I see all these Reddits, they weren’t this big just a year ago. I think, finally, the USDM is finally going to convert to lighter reels. Fly fishermen. Those guys make the BFS guys look like a bunch of slackers when it comes to being gear OCD.
  5. If your worried about warranties it means don’t buy it. Warranties only matter with low quality goods. The chances there will be a problem with a new Shimano Scorpion DC from a reputable seller are around 0% - if I think I need a warranty, I think I’d buy something else. I consider the warranty to be a scam stat to trick people into buying something with a bigger number on it. The only fishing reel I ever sent for warranty service was a two speed, because the Belleville washers are spring loaded, popped off and disappeared. They repaired it free, even though it was user error. But I didn’t “need” the warranty, I broke the reel by losing the washers.
  6. I set my drag loose enough to not break my line, hook or rod but tight enough to no let the fish get slack.
  7. from the posts I’ve been reading around here, I don’t think the iron was ever hot. But it is over seas. This reel will sell like crazy in the foreign markets on price alone.
  8. This may seem like a simple jerk bait. However, I have ordered one of these on Amazon every spring for the past 3 years. The first two years, they never arrived and I eventually got a refund. This year, it actually shipped, but got lost after leaving Texas. Luckily, I got an email letting me get a replacement. Finally, after 3 years of waiting, i have finally received one.
  9. See a lot of bourbon mentioned here. Long story short, since I didn’t really know the difference between bourbon and brandy (don’t ask), I remembered Glenmorangie original is aged in bourbon barrels. Tastes a lot better than bourbon, if you ask me. So I’ve been sipping it with a few ice cubes recently. Problem is my wife keeps drinking it all.
  10. Reminds me of the black bean steak burritos I make using the grill. Also reminds me I need to get the Char Griller Texas Trio either this weekend or next. I could seriously use some ribs right about now.
  11. That’s great. I searched it before posting, did not see this!
  12. Technically, that does not qualify as a finesse boat. The motor is far too heavy, burns way too much gas and puts out way too many horsepower. Also note there are two wheels per side on the trailer. Nope, this is not a true finesse rig.
  13. this is why I normally use only PE mainline.
  14. I guess that means anyone who would be interested already has the scorpion.... Makes sense to me now.
  15. Wow, with the Curado being one of the most beloved reels of all time and this, AFAIK, the lightest one ever made AND also less than $200, I would’ve expected it to see more interest. I’m preordering this.
  16. I would’ve said the Shimano Carbomax, which was around $80, but these were short lived on the store shelves many years back. I wouldn’t sell mine for $800 today. By far my best worm rod.
  17. I’m planning on pairing a levante with a curado BFS, besides being only 6.2oz & BFS, the colors all match perfectly. Reel is $189.00, you might even be able to get a reasonable DIY spool somewhere if you need more line capacity.
  18. Seaguar, Yozuri Hybrid, Triple Fish Fluoro, Ande, 30+ Year Old Purple Stren 17lb or 8lb Mono (when i need lots of stretch), P-Line Cxx, Momoi Diamond 20lb, Ande Pink Mono. But mostly Seaguar Fluoro in several tests from 8 to 50lbs, followed by Yozuri Hybrid in several tests up to 50lbs, then Stren and Ande mono for certain conditions.
  19. One hand bag and that’s my new rods for like 6 years..... ...plus reels......maybe 3......
  20. Mine is a custom Kistler Magnesium 7’ casting rod (it’s really 7’ 1” according to my tape measure) built on the lightest Magnesium spinning blank they had at the time, with Fuji Guides and a Shimano Aldebaran with all Boca Bearings in it. I think Abec 5 Lightnings. It’s like 4.8oz for the reel and about 3.8oz for the rod. Casts the 50 spool to the arbor knot with the right baits and no wind. It doesn’t like wind, though. How do you like the Edge rod?
  21. Great, more seguar. At this point, I should get an endorsement from them. I rarely do any type of fishing without 3 spools of seafarers leader material. I get 100m spools for saltwater and use it for literally everything. the next question is are these thin enough for a Curado BFS?
  22. It’ll go on a casting reel. Going to be mainly throwing jerkbaits. Yes, reeling in slack or flicking the rod and ending in slack is where I get this problem.
  23. I am going to try a new setup, using fluorocarbon. I need the softest, thinnest by pound test, supple fluoro on the market. The problem I always have is it coiling off on the spool when I fish something on slack line and take it up to move. All fluoro I have ever used is like plastic that is a coil in its natural state.
