  1. I’m going with orange flames and orange camo today ? ? ?
  2. I pay a lot of attention to platform sharing. So if the SV is good, a regular CT with a DIY spool and bearings is better. That’s my opinion. The SV is a great reel, because all of the Tats are.
  3. At 6 oz or less it would be near perfect.
  4. It is a great all around reel. For almost everything. But I would not use it in deep water. Once adjusted properly, you can cast to the end of the small spool on the 50. It doesn’t have the spool capacity for 150’ deep and very large fish.
  5. Yes. Anyone know what it weighs???
  6. Don’t let it hit the ground. Let it go fast enough that you don’t nest up on the cast, but still get enough distance. And turn on the centrifugal brakes. There’s no point in hitting the ground, because you will stop the spool with your thumb when you hit the water, anyway. I know some people say they don’t even have to stop the spool when they hit water, but that doesn’t matter if your setup can’t do that. Stop it when it hits water, then manually pull line out to have it sink naturally.
  7. White belly items sometimes are key with several types of fish.
  8. When I was a kid I was flying a kite, it crashed on the other side of a highway. As I was pulling it back, a truck hit the string and started pulling it, burning my hands to the point that I could’ve lost my fingers. So I let go. As long as you don’t grab the line with your hands when a boat catches it, you’ll probably be ok ?
  9. I drive a Toyota. Never had a problem with it. There were only three times in my life I’ve resorted to a warranty. One was a laptop, one was a Nintendo-both were mishandled by my kids about 10 months after getting them. The other was my one year old Mitsubishi in 2002, when the O2 sensor broke, one week after I put a K&N air filter in it. Other than that, I’ve never used a warranty on anything. I take it back, I did get a defective BocaBearing that was replaced—so four times. That was the only thing I ever got that just didn’t work right (kept snapping back on the cast or spinning erratically on the first use). I could add in my wife’s Dyson vacuum. She breaks every vacuum every year or two from excessive OCD vacuuming, so we trade it in and pay for a new warranty every time it wears out. (We don’t even have carpets) when it comes to fishing, I have gear and decent skill—but there’s no fish here ?
  10. I have a custom made extremely high end cashmere overcoat that costs more than a very nice bass boat (really) — it’s a little better than my $150 Ralph Lauren overcoat.
  11. The quality of gear is not directly related to the price. The difference is Toyota and Lexus. Almost entirely psychological. The only thing worse than buying something because of the price, is buying it for a good warranty. I always get a good laugh when people justify a high price because of the great experience they had when they had to use the warranty. Once you you can buy any fishing rod you want—the fact that high end is not better starts to become more real. I would also think that the reason so many expensive rods wind up on an Internet BST is they were not really better, but people are just too ashamed to admit it (and probably want to keep the price high for the sale).
  12. Yes. It matters. Even though I like to knock high end gear, better, lighter gear will catch more fish. As long as it’s right for the application and the guy holding it. Excellent gear can be had for good prices. Once you hit $200-300, you gain little or nothing by going up in price beyond that.
  13. Maybe. I didn’t do much fishing for a good 4-5 years because of work and school and then again when my kids were born, but most people never completely quit forever. There are some guys that get into a hobby go crazy and become enthusiasts for a few years, then quit, sell all their stuff and take up a new hobby every 2-3 years. Those guys aren’t really fishermen. If you find yourself busy and far from water or not leaving your wife home with the kids all day every weekend, it’s not really quitting.
  14. I’ve done it. I make sure to cast with the reel handle perpendicular to my arm. Like a + With everything else that can go wrong, that one is easy. Also another reason a longer handle helps, because it’s easier to adjust with your left hand before casting.
  15. The one in the picture above says that and it fit in the 100 zero adjust.
  16. All you need to do to take more heat is dress warmer. If you get yourself used to it over time, you can easily wear a regular hoodie zipped up with a T-shirt underneath, with jeans on in the hottest 90 degree plus days. All day. It beats skin cancer and sun damage.
  17. Anyone that quit fishing was never really a fisherman.
  18. Clicking it into gear during the cast?
  19. This is definitely hemorrhagic septicemia. Anyone who keeps fish in an aquarium would know.
  20. I have never seen line break at the spool. The only way I see that happening is the line was nicked or frayed. Or the guides or levelwind hole are damaged and cutting the line.
  21. I think they just make the number up. It’s not just the Ali Express ones, it also happens with brand names, like Abu, Shimano and Daiwa.
  22. No. They were healthy, vibrant fish. It was born to be hijacked.
