  1. This day and age, I would not get an Ugly Stick. Instead of buying lures, get a different rod.
  2. Strangely, there are fats and thins. They practically look like different strains.
  3. I’m telling you. In this water, they can’t see green.
  4. Green Pumpkin Senko
  5. Disney World guided fishing. September 2001. Desolate river area near the now closed and removed Disney Institute and what is now Disney Springs. Trolling live shiners 1-2 boat widths from the bank. Missed a few massive hits on my ultralight JDM Rods that I just got as a gift. No they were not set up right. The guide insisted I use one of his properly rigged rods after the several massive bites broke my line before the hookset, because the trip was almost over and it was too hot out. Bam! 30 seconds later, monster bass. It was big enough to easily swallow a house cat or small dog whole. Any other big bass (about half the size of my PB) I ever caught, was on a worm, either real or rubber, rigged various ways, right up against the bank—but never an actual Senko.
  6. The problem, I would guess, is a rod that is too stiff to load up with the weight being thrown. I say that because I fish braid down to 6lb suffix and have never had a birdsnest. Once the line gets wet, it sticks to the spool, making it seem like it dug in, but it’s just the water skin holding it to itself. Because the water sticks, you can’t throw a weightless fluke with braid on a baitcaster, unless you have a very whippy rod. To make matters worse, a stiff rod will put less pressure on the line, as you reel in, causing it to be wound too loose. The best application specific rod for this technique is a much softer rod.
  7. Do not buy the Orra! I’d go with a Daiwa Tatula CT or new 100 or a Shimano SLX or Casitas. If it’s inshore/surf, I’d get a New Tatula. There’s no reason it won’t hold up to salt. The only salt getting in is from the spool shaft. That will be minimal.
  8. Get a few dozen real, live, fresh, feisty worms. Wacky rig them and cast them where you know there’s bass - weightless. Eventually, you’ll learn to detect the weightless worm bite. That is how I learned.
  9. Crazy. But no doubt it’s true. My father did a little commercial fishing when I was a kid, so I had seen sharks many times. Everywhere everyone would say “there’s no sharks in there.”
  10. Everyone’s. Fishing is expensive now. Yes, I do coffee, monster drinks & water.
  11. Only strange thing that ever happened was fishing on a dark dreary day on a pier with the water about 2” deep on the pier at high tide. There were, for the first time I’ve ever seen in 35 years at this spot, false albacore everywhere. I kept hooking and losing them, because my hooks were too big. One comes directly towards my feet at about 50mph, then just an inch from the pier makes a perfect turn putting his body sideways facing me thereby making a wake that completely soaked me. I still do not know how this was possible without crashing. It completely defied physics. Within a half hour, the water was up to my ankles and I then saw a large shark right alongside me on the other side of the pier. About 5 feet away. At that point, I packed up and went home.
  12. I never drink when I fish. Stone cold sober. If you know my true cost per fish ? ? ?
  13. I do not eat donuts. When I really want something like that, to waste calories on, I’ll get a small box of timbits.
  14. At that price, you should check them all out in person. You’re basically looking at all the best the market has to offer, if you know how to shop around.
  15. If you want to know how to not catch fish, come out with me a few times, I’ll bet money I’m the best at that on this site.
  16. You just have to spool on it tight. I’ve never seen dig in on any reel fishing from 6lb braid to 50lb braid. If you spool it on at 2lbs of pressure or less and fish 5lbs or more drag, it might dig in, but spooled at 4-5lbs pressure it won’t dig in. I wish I could spool up your reel for you and bring you over to the light side of the force.
  17. It doesn’t dig in. Maybe decades ago, but spectra and dynerma are drastically improved now. It literally never digs in.
  18. I don’t know why people say this. It’s easier than mono or fluoro.
  19. This stuff is normal now a days. Employers are no better than anyone else. Few people will have less than 6 or 8 careers now. Some people are screw ups and never have anything, no matter what they’re employment situation is. I can think of relatives who are broke, bankrupt, in debt and dependent on their parents to pay their bills, even while working and making good money. If you weren’t that type of people before, no matter what happens, you’ll never become that.
  20. At 7.2oz, its a bad idea if you want to go ultralight or to pair with a 3-4.5oz rod.
