  1. No. It just pops in and is ready to go. You could just loosen the zero adjuster if it fits too tight.
  2. Nobody knows exactly what lateral lines do or how they work in different types of fish. They are known to pick up sound, vibration, smell, taste, electricity, temperature—everything except sight. They definitely pick up electricity in all fish. But some fish are better metal detectors than others (like sharks which have additional sensors). If you have large fish in a tank, and try to touch them from an angle they can’t see, they can feel it and get away before you can touch them. If you use a wooden chopstick, it’s much easier to poke them. But if you use a metal knife or fork, they feel it more than wood, but not as good as a live finger and usually get away. I am skeptical of what scientists say. I would listen to a pro fisherman’s advice on fish before a scientist.
  3. I did. For hours a fish. They didn’t care. They didn’t even care when I hit them hard in the side with a jig. I even bounced a squarebill off one of them.
  4. I was throwing that directly at bed fish as hard as I could, hitting them on the side a few times (after several hours of failed conventional tactics). NOTHING.
  5. Just fish. Everyone always says “the fish will tell you” what to use. IMO, this is even more true with rods and reels.
  6. You’re making me second guess buying the SA fire arm sleeve sun protectors now :::facepalm:::
  7. I would have said get one heavy rig and one light—or even the standard “get a quality medium heavy.” You’re better off getting out there with something decent to start with then fine tuning your gear to where and how you’ll be fishing the most. Jumping in head first with a whole box full of rods and reels is only going to get you into the buy sell trade or eBay. My advice is always fish first, buy stuff later. Like when your sitting there going over every fishing day of last season in your mind in January and February.
  8. Got my Rays Studio handle today, ordered on the 3rd when you posted this. Perfect. The number of mm’s can be deceiving. Some 105mm handles are nearly identical to 90mm handles, because of the location of the knob posts. It was packaged nicely and is exactly what I needed. Stock knobs fit perfect. Thanks ?
  9. Not too surprising for a 2 piece fast rod rated up to only 3/8. This is probably why the overseas crowd started using the soft noodle rods for finesse applications.
  10. I would like to give these a try. I like the looks of the carbon fiber handles. But have to keep priorities straight. Had to get 2 new rods for the kids, plus they’ll need reels and am planning a summer getaway to target bass in a bigger lake. Maybe next season. Or worse. The dead of winter next year.....
  11. No. I throw small because the fish I’m going for eat small. I do not catch numbers, because the numbers aren’t there. But there are big ones that eat—sometimes. Do you know what the fish are eating? A lot of fish are eating small things. Possibly stuff like dragonfly larvae. I say that because adding bass to a lake drastically reduces the number of dragonflies. There’s a lot of small things to eat in some lakes that seem pretty barren.
  12. All I can say is there are lots of places around you with fish over 6. A 7 is realistic. The problem may be that if you are fishing large bodies of water the fish aren’t where you are fishing. I have caught many fish 5-7 lbs in small ponds. Not from skill. From fishing them until I caught something. I bet there are way more 5-10 pound bass near you than me. I say go to Florida in September, because that’s where I got my PB. Or somewhere else with no winter.
  13. Still better than the hundreds of casts curse. The only thing I caught was a dink catfish.
  14. Maybe you can see it better this way. They appear to be protecting the holes.
  15. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/pan-seared-rib-eye-recipe-2131274 I use this recipe, but put the pan on the grill and go hotter than 500. I do the stovetop part with the grill open and just close it for the in oven part. I have to do it outside because my wife hates the smoke. I’m sure anyone in the neighborhood on a no fat diet hates the smoke too..........
  16. Good luck trying to fish anything 6.9oz and up now, unless your in 30+ feet of water or targeting giant catfish and carp................
  17. Does pressure matter? Aren’t the best lakes people know about all heavily pressured?
  18. Got out for a little today. Looks like the fish are bedding up. They are staying tight to their spots and will not eat. Found one today that had to be around 10lbs. No matter what I did, I could not get it to bite anything. I even casted straight into him and bumped him once with a spinner bait. No luck. They all did the same thing. Looks like the dumb ones like this 3-4 pounder are making beds in the excessive algae this year. I have never seen this much before. Still a great day, since now that everything’s all set up right, I could cast to the end of the spool on my aldebaran with a weightless senko or even 1/4 ounce
  19. I have the 7’8” and after bending it on a 5lb weight, I can see it’s rigid enough, but then bends very nicely under a load. Can’t wait to fish it. For my, non bass application, I need a crisp tip that once under a load, turns into a mod. Really seems like it’ll do that well. Only downside—on this big and heavy a rod, the guides should be much bigger. Doubt thats a problem on the 6’9”
  20. T Rig Worm C Rig Worm Crankbaits Smaller Jigs I have not had much luck with much else.
