Still no fish. Bootleg dark sleeper got its guts ripped out after getting hung up a few times. This did not happen to the authentic one that I got snagged with more times than I could count. Switched to a black/blue BooYa Jig with orange grub tail on it to get some chatter going, managed to see a few dink’s hit the grub tail very close in, but they were barely 3x bigger than the 3/8’s jig. Nowhere near as durable as the real thing

You are playing with fire by not using you thumb when you start to nest up. Better to start every day at 2/3 your normal casting range (if you are looking for distance). Then work up to full distance. Mainly because the line casts different after it’s fully wet. It is not a good idea to hope to save a bad cast without just cutting it short. A half cast is better than a half day lost to a birds nest.

I can’t believe you got that rapala! Saw those on sale 15-20 or so years ago and bought every single one. I thought they stopped making them back then! I still have a bunch of them. But strangely only caught smallmouths on them. I don’t know why?

IMO, crank baits load up the rod, start up the spool very quickly and fly very far because they are compact and heavy. That causes early to mid cast overruns, which magnets aren’t as good for as a reel with good mechanical brakes.

I dont know? I like quality hard light EVA, cork is OK. Some days I feel like I like it, other days I don’t. I don’t like that it gets old and I don’t like that it looks so new when you get it. Try light weight and a large craw like a pit boss which will glide just above them. Or try a C-Rig, but use two larger size round split shots, with a curly tail worm. These glide just above the snags better than anything I know that is a bottom contact bait.

Either over powering small fish or big fish do roll upside down to shake the hook. Bass are one of the only fish I’ve seen able to shake their heads up and down instead of only side to side. I think because they do that upside down, it might be that they use the jaw hinge to do it.

The USDM has yet to see the light and wants to be prepared for the possibility that they’re going to hook into something that is so huge it will force them to spend the rest of their lives living in shame after getting spooled.

The only way to find the right one is trial and error. You have to buy them and hope they do what you need them for. If they don’t do it, they’ll usually cover another application. IMO, this is how “technique specific” became a thing.

I prefer a stick that bends. You can’t get the Same type of casting difference with a stiff rod. And you can’t keep a hook in a fish with a lot of line out using braid unless the rod bends enough.

That means it cannot be used with lures. You’ll have to get bait.
