  1. Trying to decide whether to get an MGXtreme2? Or another Aldebaran? The problem is, I've never actually seen an MGXtreme in person. Does anyone who's held or fished both know if the mgx is as small? As easy to palm? And does it sit as low on the rod? I am only concerned with size. I need whichever is smallest and sits lowest on the rod.
  2. I’m going to just throw this out there..... ......the best way to keep plastics out of the digestive tract of aquatic wildlife and out of the noses of turtles, is to put it on a fishing hook....
  3. They’re good. Enjoyed the 10’ rod video. That got more difference of opinion than you usually see, especially with sponsors and customers involved.
  4. Me too. I move a lot even if I’m fishing “one spot” - how far and wide I might travel depends on factors I would not be able to explain.
  5. That’s close to my standards. I usually go for 28-32” PT
  6. Just received the umbrella rig special. I can tell you that you can use this for the heavy applications you mention. It is most likely the same blank as the MAD rod. I am going to predict that it’s good for over 4 ounces, even over 5. It is not that moderate, but it has a bit of give to it. I would call it a Mod-Fast. Maybe. It has the properties of a “stout” rod, except is is unbelievably light for the power. I am not sure you’d be able to use less than 1.5oz for most applications. It is too stiff and has too much power for that. Unless you want to fish no less than 2, you might want to consider a lighter powered rod. If I planned on using this for less than 2, it’s too heavy for that, I’d need something else. It has tons of backbone. This rod feels like a super light 1-5oz MH inshore rod. That’s what I intended to use it for. Think comparable to Lamiglas Triflex 7030, but with just a bit of give to it a few inches further down the blank. And less than 1/2 the overall rod weight.
  7. My first big bass, when I was 10 or 11, came from a small pond in a very secluded area. We thought the old man who said there’s fish that can eat you in there was just kidding. I caught it on a wacky rigged half a live worm, so it might not count, though.
  8. I can’t see the picture ?
  9. God bless you. Nobody cares, unless there’s major losses to the area economy.
  10. I’m secretly a Shimano rod fanboy. All the way down to the $60 Carbonax, which I use for several applications and have caught fish from 2oz to 7lbs on.
  11. Pretty sure I’ve seen that same guy in another video giving a demo of this knot with his son or grandson.
  12. I don’t know. Oiled, they aren’t bad. They help to the extent that you can hear the spool speed. And they get quieter over time.
  13. Around here they like anything shiny.
  14. In a weight below 3/8, the resistence of all of those things are much harder to overcome with the momentum of the lure. Unless the rod literally slingshots the lure, I won’t be able to cast it.
  15. I would go with one reel at $200-250, with one heavy rod and one light rod in the $150-200 range. This would cover most applications.
  16. Everything is !!! Especially with magnets !!!
  17. 40-50 yards is worse than the majority of youtubers casting over 1/4 oz. There are plenty of videos of guys like The Reel Test casting around 200’ on the field just by snappping the rod down from directly overhead. That cast is not at all maximized for distance. If he is getting 150-200’ that way (like him or not, I’m sure he is, see video below) a full over the shoulder cast will get more distance. Real world casting is usually farther than the field because it starts from higher ground above water level. Claims of 40-50 yards as a max are bogus. You’re adding a good 10-20 yards on the water to any field numbers. That would explain @Catt saying he hit a 75 yard target.
  18. Begrudgingly, I had to add a few dabs of grease around the inside of the sleeve the gear shaft bearing fits into.
  19. I don’t know. Sounds like vibration to me. I use the same oil 99% of the time, I get better casts with oil (but not until throwing about 10 casts or so). The orange seals still make noise. Others not as much. I actually just tried Boca ABEC 5 Ceramic Lightening bearings. I actually think they are better than the 7’s, quiet and smooth. That’s why I’m wondering why 7’s are noisier? And not just Bocas.
  20. This is going to sound strange, but I still agree with this reply. I know. I think the difference in weight when it’s a bit heavier matches the properties of rods better. It’s just easier to cast heavier. No matter what the rod rating, it is much, much harder to throw the lighter weights. It isn’t harder for no reason. Its because resistence makes up a bigger percentage of the mass of the bait, rod and spool.
  21. I don’t usually measure. But my cast distances are legit. I take my casting more serious than my fishing because I’m casting 100% of the time and catch fish less than 1% of the time. LOL
  22. This defies the laws of physics. Tighter tolerances and less friction should equal less noise. Stock bearings are are usually heavier than hybrids and should make more noise if they are specked lower and have less tolerance. Hearing more noise from supposedly tighter toleranced lower friction bearings should not happen. This has me thinking, that stock bearings are lower ABEC rated, heavier materials, but have tighter tolerances between the balls, races and cages. You almost never hear vibration from quality stock reel bearings, wet or dry. Can anyone with knowledge explain this phenomenon?
  23. I agree 1/4 to 1oz is a big window. 1/2oz to 1-1/4oz is more realistic. Most brand name bass rods on display in any given store will throw 1oz like a champ. It’s everything over or under 1oz that’s the hard part. I would also say most baitcasters will throw 1-3oz like a champ on the right rod, but under 3/4oz, the capability of the reel becomes a huge factor in what you can throw with any given rod.
  24. I was throwing a 1/4oz dark sleeper a good 150-165’ yesterday, with noticeable wind. Im throwing hard enough to hear a ‘whoosh’ when I whip the rod hard enough to get that distance. Into the wind cast distance would be 50-75’
