Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
How you like the Mega size?? Seems it has been working! Nice fish!

Higher-end combo recommendation
Chronarch is a no brainer. Rod wise I would say the P5s are much nicer than the glx rods. They really are NRX level rods at a lower price point.

Megabass P5 Destroyer Windbuster Review (AMAZING rod!)
Yeah I agree, their actions don't line up with the US market "standards" and I like it a lot! Yeah I would say that rod would do similar things to the Windbuster.

Megabass P5 Destroyer Windbuster Review (AMAZING rod!)
How do you like it for drop shorting compared to the baby plugging? I guess what I’m asking is which rods do what. Also how does the Landsat compare sensitivity wise to the Windbuster?

Those sound awesome! What do you think about me getting a Landsat to round out the trio?

High End Finesse Spinning Rods - Give Me Advice
I just happen to have bought a new drop shot and ned rig rod a week ago. The P5 baby plugging. Its does neds well but can't speak much I've only gotten to use it once. I do have a windbuster and that is way too heavy of a rod for neds and drop shots. It's a much better tube rod, neds are a pain on it.

So he said to get a Kaden. The sierra's are more moderate rods so they are better for reaction. The Kaden's are more sensitive and have faster actions so better for bottom baits. He said 744 if you don't throw super heavy stuff on it and 745 if you want to fish heavier weight or around heavy cover. Hope this helps!

Megabass P5 Destroyer Windbuster Review (AMAZING rod!)
After fishing this rod for a full season worth of smallmouth wading I can confidently review this rod. First off, for $475, this is a MEGA-STEAL. This rod is on par with lightness and sensitivity as the NRX line. I paired it with a 2500 Daiwa Certate which balances very well (awesome reel!!). Spooled with SX1 12lb high vis braid to a 7lb Sniper leader. I had trouble figuring out what this rod was truly "made for". I have narrowed it down to this: tubes, flukes, senkos, shakey heads (in this order). This rod is INSANELY sensitive. I HAVE NOT MISSED A SINGLE BITE. I literally feel everything going on. There is no mistaking bites from anything else. Every one is clearly felt. The power behind this rod is unbelievable. I can really put the pressure on fish with this rod. Big river smallmouth have no chance. Tubes are a straight joy to fish on this rod. If you are looking for an ultimate tube rod look no further. Flukes are awesome on this rod and this has the right amount of power to pull fish out of cover. I highly recommend this rod and if anyone has any questions please ask! Thanks for reading!

My friend is personally sponsored by Dobyns and has a dozen or so of those rods so I will ask him when I see him next. I do know he is trying to sell a 744 Kaden he just bought. He has a lot of rods that are similar to that so I think he just couldn't find a good use for it.

Dark colored neds are the perfect size. Stay sub 3 in if you are looking to match them.

Which Daiwa reel should I choose
Agreed with above. Anything SV is going to make your backlashes disappear. Correctly adjusted, I can outcast anyone and still not touch my thumb to the spool.

Yes I use owner hyperwire split rings for a rigs and big glide baits for that reason. They are super strong.

When smallmouth want to run in current let them. But since you are using casting gear I would say set your drag (for trebles) so that you can pull line out without wrapping your hand around the line. Then just sweep hook set and get em in. That should allow the bigger ones to pull drag if they run.

HELP! Where should I go fishing?
So here’s the situation. I am in Chicago and will drive up to 6ish hours away to fish. We are looking for wadable rivers with BIG smallie potential. So anywhere in Wisconsin and the LP of Michigan would be open (or other states near). I have a few ideas but was wondering what you guys have fished? We will be camping for a few days next week. I am trying to get on one last fishing trip before school starts back up. Can anyone speak for any of these: WI: Menominee, Namekagon, Black, or others MI: Grand, Kalamazoo, Chippewa, or others If you would rather message me with access points or info that would be great! The Wisconsin weather for next week has me a little nervous to drive all the way out to the river we fished last time for it to be blown out with rain. Michigan weather looks much better. THANK YOU!

**I had set a goal to catch a 4+ lb smallie wading this year. I think catching a 4+ wading is very challenging but felt I could do it. Made the drive to —————— (you can probably guess the state ) for a camping/wading trip and boy was it worth it! We had the river all to ourselves and smashed over 100 smallies with most of the fish going in the 2-3 lb range. My fish fell for a tube and my brothers both threw neds. I had caught a 25ish Muskie and was trying to use fly fishing pliers (I know I’m stupid) and he thrashed and I cut my thumb up pretty bad. probably should have gotten a few stitches but I’m ok now. My next fish was this HOG OF A SMALLMOUTH which made up for the DIY trauma center on the river immediately. I saw him eat and everything. Pretty big fish for a river under 100ft across. He went for 4lbs even so I hit my goal! I guess I have to try and hit 5 now!?! This will be almost impossible for Illinois rivers so I think I will be trying to get into Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan more. Anyway enjoy the pictures we didn’t take many because we were catching so many but the few we have turned out pretty good.

Catching too many dinks. Smallies
There are probably big fish mixed in with the dinks. Like everyone above asked what are you using? You may need to mix up baits to get the bigger ones to eat.

Have been fishing a lot with little pictures. No 4lb giants yet but hit the big river today (it is still a little flooded) for 3 smallies. These are pics from a few days ago. GIANT carp in current are very fun. Took around 15/20min to land this beast.
