For those of you who usedDobyns rods, I’m looking into purchasing one for Texas rigs and jigs. I’m torn between the Kaden and Sierra series but I’m a huge fan of the full cork handles and would prefer those over split grip but just looking for a little insight and some opinions from those of you have used them. The Kaden flipping stick is very intriguing.

Never owned a Sierra series, have three of the original Kaden series rods.  Great rods, very sensitive and very light.  I for one wish they would have kept the split handles on them but I guess I was in the minority on that one!  Haha. If the Kaden series was still split grip I would have no problem buying more of them.

My friend is personally sponsored by Dobyns and has a dozen or so of those rods so I will ask him when I see him next. I do know he is trying to sell a 744 Kaden he just bought. He has a lot of rods that are similar to that so I think he just couldn't find a good use for it.

So he said to get a Kaden. The sierra's are more moderate rods so they are better for reaction. The Kaden's are more sensitive and have faster actions so better for bottom baits. He said 744 if you don't throw super heavy stuff on it and 745 if you want to fish heavier weight or around heavy cover. Hope this helps!

I have a Sierra 683, a Sierra 684, and a Champion 735. They are all full grip handle. Power 3, 4, and 5 can all be used for jig rods, depending on the weight of the jigs you're throwing. Sensitivity wise, Sierra is very close to Champion. They are well balanced, with a comfortable reel seat. I love them for jig/t-rig fishing, and often pick them over my Legend X and GLX. The moderate-fast action is perfect to keep SM hooked.

I vote Kaden for mono and flouro, Sierra for braid. I have the Sierra 765 and 766 flippin sticks. I'm very happy with them. Using braid on both. Great tips with PLENTY of backbone.

Kaden would be the best bet. Like others have stated, the Kaden gets to the backbone of the rod faster or higher in the blank. This action is better suited for what your use will be.

Have the 744 and one of my favorite sticks!

Dang it!!! This post got me looking... Just bought a 744 Kaden. That's 2 Sierra's, a Kaden, a Lew's Pro SP, and a Penn Battle III in the last month. Thank you Lord for blessing me with a patient and understanding wife!!! This Kaden should be perfect for Dave Riggin with 14# XT though!!!? Wait, is it still considered a Dave rig if I'm not using Tatsu?

With Dobyns. Over 40 rods in the garage, after giving 16 to my grandkids. I'm a sick sick man.

I guess it's just a geographic thing but here in the N. IL and pretty much all of WI you can't find Dobyn's except at Scheel's.  St, Croix or G. Loomis are the choice in nicer rods.

Well... Looks like I'll be getting a Kaden 765 soon. Some dummy, (who shall remain nameless), broke the tip on my Sierra 765 yesterday. I mailed in the required rod section with receipt and money order this morning. No Sierra 765's in stock and not sure when they'll get them. She said three containers expected between now and Dec. Kaden 765's are in stock and mine should ship next week.

I was going to wait on the Sierra's, so I ordered a Tharp King Cobra last night, (Really like my Guntersville Special), then had a change of heart this morning and asked to exchange for a Kaden. So... TWO new flippin sticks inbound. I'm hopeless.

God created the internet on the 8th day and Tackle Warehouse on the 9th.

Not a Dave rig............just a plastics rig with swimbait hooks and spring keepers. Wow that is a lot to type........lets call it a plastics rig. You are maybe getting out there a "little" with rods.....just sayin' ?

Did you buy a rod yet, or still shopping? My Kaden 744 should be hear tomorrow, and the 765 late next week. I'll share my thoughts on them here after I get a chance to fish them.

My one other purchase this year is going to be a Fury 765FLIP - waiting for 'that other site' to have it's 25% off Dobyns sale that happens every year around BF.

*Good advice on the Kaden vs. the Sierra .
