  1. Jeff Beck has blurred the lines between rock and jazz. Is he/was he the best? He is certainly in the conversation. One of my favorites. Just saw him about a month ago at the new venue next to Fenway. Unfortunately he was touring with Johnny Depp. I was in sonic nirvana listening to Jeff. Then Johnny Depp got out there, it went south fast.
  2. Vibe has made 2 fishing paddleboards. Their new model the Cuberra looks pretty cool. https://vibekayaks.com/products/vibe-cubera-120-hybrid-kayak?variant=40224342474930 Not for me, I would definitely be kicking combos into the water left and right.
  3. Good Motto Mick. Thanks for the advise, wasn't sure scuffing up the blank would show through. It is not really a big deal, can't really see it just feel it, it's a pretty thin coat. So CP. Color preserver? Okay so school me on color preserver. I have only used it on my thread wraps.
  4. I just finished a spinning rod using my first Immortal blank. This is the ninth rod I've built. It came out great. I had one issue. I applied the label that ships with the blank just ahead of the reel seat pretty much like I have done on the previous 8 rods. The label lifted under the lite build. I had to remove it which left a thin layer of Flexcoat on the blank. I'm stubborn so I took the second label that comes with the blank and applied it to the section between the split grips thinking the larger diameter of the butt will be easier to stick to. Well that pretty much lifted right off the blank under the second coat of lite build. I use Scotchbrite and scuff up the sections of the blank that gets epoxy, I did not think it was a good idea to do this where I would apply a clear label. The Immortal blank has a much slicker finish than the Revelation blanks I have been using. I have blank number 10 waiting for the components to arrive. It is also an Immortal blank, 7'2" MH casting rod. I think it is going to be a C-rig rod. I don't think I will be applying labels to that blank. A couple of questions. I have been picking away at the remaining flex coat with my fingernail, it is a slow process. Anything else I could do? Th other question is what is good for writing on blanks by hand? I have pretty steady hand. Might go this route in the future.
  5. I have 3 of the 3700 Edge jig boxes. I use them for storage only. I don't have any of the 3600 size. I was thinking about this post last night and realized instead of angling the jigs sideways try this. Raise the jig head between the plastic slots so the head is off the bottom of the box. This allows you to angle the hook lower which lowers the weed guard making it flush with the top of the box. Again I do not have a 3600 size to test this configuration but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
  6. This just happened Friday morning. Arrived at the pond around 7:30am, leaning against the fence at the ramp were 3 spinning combos. This is a small ramp with only 4 or 5 parking spots. No one else is here so they were left there. I scoped them out, nothing special. I left them where I found them and went fishing. Got back to the ramp after fishing the morning, rods were still there. Was not sure what to do. While I was loading up, A pickup drove in looking for his combos. He was quite relieved that he recovered them. We had a nice chat, exchanged numbers, and hopefully we go fishing together soon.
  7. I have not seen them this bad is about 10 years. Last experience I had at a state forest, they actually had a sign out in front of the entrance that read something like " Warning deer flies". They weren't kidding. We were swarmed. We basically ran from shot to shot because there were so many swarming our heads. Definitely the most miserable disc golf game in memory.
  8. The deer flies were vicious here in Mass in some places. I stopped hiking this one trail this year because my dog and I were chased out of the woods by them. I think Otis (my younger dog) ate one during the hike and the deer fly bit him in his mouth. His face swelled up and we ended up at Tufts. The best way I have found to kill flies is with an elastic band. Sorry this will not work on your boat unless you are a really good shot, tough to shoot them out of the sky. When they land however, fair game. I'm pretty deadly within 5'. Check your attack angle because the elastic will make a mess of the fly. I don't like flies, but shooting them is fun and you get to work on your aim.
  9. I cast with my left hand. So sitting in my kayak I cast right and pitch left. I cannot pitch right at all while seated. Pitching from a seated position works, takes a little practice. Standing is better.
  10. No, I just did some mods to my seat. I ran a bungie cord in a cross pattern on the back of my seat to hold my net. The fish grips are attached to the frame via the stretch cord and tucks in between the fabric of my seat. My scissors and stats are in a pouch attached to the frame with velcro. My pliers are on a Gerber tether that is clipped to the seat strap and secured with a tie wrap to the frame. This keeps all my tools easily accessible. I guess I am kind of weird. My reasons for buying a kayak don't really line up with most others. Hull access, light weight, and most people don't like the center storage on the Vibe. It is another reason I bought it.
  11. I have a Vibe Sea ghost 110. My set up is much like yours. 1- custom built kayak crate W/ 4 rod holders and 5 Plano Edge 3500 boxes. 2- Garmin Striker. The Sea ghost has a hatch and door for mounting transducer so no arm needed. 3- I mount an extra cell phone on a Railblaza mount for photos. 4- 3 railblaza rod holders. 2 mounted in rear for rod storage. One is mounted on a front rail in reverse. (a place to put my rod when I am landing a fish) 5- 4-8 rods. 6- paddle 7- backwater assault paddle. (my trolling motor) 8- drinks and snacks. sitting in my center console. 9- my seat. Which has a net, pliers, cutters, fish grip, and hemostats all mounted to the seat. I also have 2 sets of heavy cutters and piers in a saddle bag in the side of my crate. 10- A battery to run my sonar and lights. The advantage of having access to the hull of your kayak is I store my battery inside, it sits on velcro. 11- dry bag with clothes also kept inside my hull. This does not get removed. 12- First aid kit and a tow/dock rope in my center console. These do not get removed. 13- finally, I have a flag and a 360 light on a PVC pole. Either will be brought along when needed.
  12. The locked ones are my favorite. Some can be quite comical and I simply crack up whenever I see the GIF of the deer eating popcorn. Love that. Seriously though, my favorite posts are the ones that discuss bass behavior, discussions about specific baits and how to fish them, and all the old Discussions on how to catch big bass between Catt and Matt Lures, those were legendary.
  13. I have the Sims Solarflex, AFTCO samurai, HUK iconX, Columbia PFG terminal tackle, and a bunch of NRS silk weights. All are rated UPF50. Sims- expensive around 50$, made in China, constructed slightly different, has extra side panels for range of motion. Many colors. AFTCO- cheaper 35$, made in Taiwan, many colors. HUK- 35$, made in Guatemala, many colors, half of this shirt is mesh. Colombia- 35$, made in Guatemala I think but def S. America, many colors. NRS- expensive 45-65$, made in Cambodia, many different styles, very few color options, these shirts are constructed different (built for paddlers) and the material is unlike anything I have ever worn. In my opinion the Sims, AFTCO, and Columbia are pretty much the same. The HUK shirt is a little cooler, the mesh makes a difference. My only problem with the HUK shirt is all the branding. Do we really need HUK fishing on the front, back and sleeve? Now the NRS shirts are my favorite, I have several and when it is hot, they are the only ones I wear. Almost feels like you aren't wearing anything. There are several different styles also, ones with hoods, quarter zips.
  14. Ajay, so sorry Tucker has passed. When my first best friend passed away, my wife and I said no more dogs. That lasted about a year when we realized we love dogs too much. Now we have 2. I feel so lucky we have 2 boys that are amazing dogs and my new best friends. Fishing has suffered because I spend every afternoon with them usually hiking through the woods. No regrets, I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything.
  15. I have been in the shipping, receiving, distribution field for 35 years. I have seen my share of UPS and Fed Ex deliveries. In my experience small package shipments get damaged because of improper packing. Now there are only so many ways to ship a fishing rod. Hopefully a rod tube, preferably plastic. If I was going to choose a carrier for shipping a rod I would choose USPS for the simple reason that they can't walk in the back of their delivery truck. (at least the mail trucks around me are too small). I have seen UPS and Fed Ex drivers step on too many packages throughout the years. I don't know about you but have a rod in a cardboard rod tube stepped on 20 times during the day doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy. DVT is correct, it is a crap shoot. Sometimes you get people that care about their job, other times...well.
  16. I am not the OP. What I did was offer my opinion on glass lenses and my experience with them. Sorry, not here to debate, just asked a question and I did a google search, twice. Didn't find much, which is why I asked. Sorry for disagreeing with you. To answer the OP's question, I have never tried Banjo sunglasses. I currently wear a pair of Maui Jim's fishing. I have a pair of Revos also. If I had to buy another pair of sunglasses they would be Maui Jim's. Best lenses I ever worn.
  17. Exactly why the fishing industry should adopt the metric system. What weighs more 5/8 or 11/16? I need a chart for this? Crazy. Let's try this what weighs more 6g or 7g? Simple.
  18. I have the Supreme, Supreme XT, and the Patriarch bait casters. They are fine. I will not be upset if they stop making them. I have moved on. I believe there is better quality in other manufacturers for equal pricing. It should be noted the most unusual thing about the XT and the Patriarch is they both use a titanium main gear. Feels different than brass. Keeps the weight down. In regards to the Revo SX gen 4, I have fished with it for 4 years, I don't find it an issue but I did manage to click open the side plate by accident once while fishing. So it is very possible. I palm my reel so it really wasn't a big deal, my hand covers the whole side so I can't see how it would fall into the water. I must have hit the switch when I went from casting grip to palming the reel.
  19. How many people have ever heard of this happening? I'm not saying total BS but if this was even a rare occurrence no one would wear glass lenses. I don't have prescription lenses but I have worn quality glass sunglasses my entire adult life. I have face-planted while skiing (frames broke in two, lenses intact). Went over my handlebars once glasses flew off smashed into the rocks. (cracked lens). When we first started playing paintball, my sun glasses were my goggles (I know, stupid). Can't say I ever took a paintball on the lens though. I have sent 5 pairs of Vuarnets back for various repairs during my reckless days. Mostly broken frames, I think only one cracked lens. To me glass is worth the small risk. Looking through Polycarb is cloudy and distorted.
  20. I have a Seaghost 110. I have done many mods and have lots of pics. PM me if you like I will send via email. Much easier than posting pics here.
  21. Carolina keepers have a strong grip on the line. They work pretty good. The problem is they can get hung up and when you are trying to free them the keeper could slide down the line. I feel that when the keeper slips it could damage the line. You my not be able to tell it it slipped either. This is why I go with the traditional rigging. Jonas, how about this sinker? https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Vike_Tungsten_Carolina_Weight/descpage-VIKECAR.html
  22. https://smile.amazon.com/Jadeshay-Replacement-Universal-Rack-Free-Stand-up/dp/B07ZTL77DX/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1GW8ON35J3HBO&keywords=canoe+foam+blocks+for+roof+rack&qid=1648654610&sprefix=foam+blocks+for+roof%2Caps%2C97&sr=8-10 Something like this is also an inexpensive option.
  23. I noticed that also. I have pro tech watermelon red flake. It almost seems like the heads need to be immersed for a split second longer, otherwise they come out with a thin coating and all the red flake has collected at the lowest point that got dipped, if that makes sense. What does work awesome is Boss jig armor black pearl with blue... sparkles. They are much smaller than the flakes and that paint sets up just as good as solid colors.
  24. Thanks for the info. Sorry to the OP for the misinformation. When I see internal brakes and an adjustment knob on the outside, I just assumed dual braking system. These 2 reels are my first Shimanos. Just went to the Shimano site to read up on their braking system and some of their other technologies. I stand by my original statement. Half the internals on. If their are magnetic brakes they get set to minimal and I don't ever adjust again.
