It will work. I started doing this with finesse jigs beginning this season. It's become one of my go to rigs with the bass have lockjaw.

So, I've been looking at mudhole, and contemplating falling into abyss of rod building. Watching their how to videos, I see that they use tape arbors to support the reel seat. As an engineer my first thought was "Tape? Really?" I also saw polyurethane and graphite arbors also, which seems like a much better idea. Real world experience would be appreciated before I step over the edge... J.

And Jeremy Wade caught a 500lb bull shark from a river system in South Africa. One of the biggest ever caught anywhere apparently. The record is 690 or so. I think Jeremy's best could hold it's own against most of what swims in Florida ocean waters...

I have a counterpoint. I was fishing at one of my regular small lakes in NH today, and it was pretty normal for a hot sunny Sunday. Plenty of parking at the rooftop launch and there were still spaces available at the boat ramp in the middle of the day. The state has been opening up for a few weeks now and I wonder if the claustrophobia and cabin fever is beginning to subside now things are opening up again. I have to admit I’m looking forward to going back to my favorite restaurants. J

I do the same thing. I've always been very protective of my eyes after I had a piece of metal hit my safety glasses in a workshop as a kid. It took a chunk out of the lens. I would have lost an eye. I only wore safety glasses because I had to. Afterwards I wore them because I wanted to... I had eye surgery a few years ago and only had vision in one eye for several months while the other recovered. All good now, but was an object lesson in what you take for granted. I lost depth perception completely and would pour coffee on the floor instead of into the mug. I learned to put the mug on the counter and use my finger to ensure I had the pot in the right place. Driving was a pain because lost all the peripheral vision on the right side. It's amusing looking back, but only because the end outcome was positive. Take care of them peepers folks. You have no idea how much you would miss losing one of them.

Is it really a Phillips head, or is it a JIS screw? JIS looks like a Philips, but the point geometry is different. I have a set of JIS screwdrivers for working on camera gear and lenses. With Daiwa being Japanese I have to wonder...

I think it’s been off too. I’ve had some weird days and unlike you have only caught on cranks and jerks and a tiny 2.8 keitech on a small jig head. Nothing on plastics at all. Not to mention all 6 people will have to be tall and skinny. The 16.5 ft tracker deep-v has a payload limit of 1000lbs. So 6 people would have to weigh on average 167 lbs. That's without any tackle, coolers, drinks, food etc. The Lowe Fish & Ski 16 ft has a max person weight of 800 lbs. So the average weight is 133 lbs with no tackle, food etc. The Lund 1675 adventure doesn't list a person weight capacity, but physics doesn't change with the manufacturer so it still going to be around 1000 lbs blah blah blah. Bottom line, the person capacity of most boats is wildly overstated unless you have 2 adults and 4 young kids on the boat. J.

The only spinning reel I ever had break was aluminum, oddly enough about 30 years ago. Unless you are paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars, you aren't getting a forged or machined frame on an aluminum spinning reel. You are getting a die or MIM cast frame, which is arguably no better than plastic/graphite, and quite possibly worse. Which is why my reel broke 30 years ago. There was a void in the stem from the casting process. Bottom line, use what you like and feels good and don't worry about what it's made of. J.

This. I doubt 4 & 5 year olds will be able to follow on on zoom. They will get bored in about 2 minutes. It's hard enough at that age doing it in person. Also, if you teach dad, and have dad teach his kids, then dad will have an experience and bond with his kids he wouldn't otherwise have. When grown, his kids will cherish that experience with dad. Time with kids is short, and you only get one go at it. J.

It can't be the baitcaster. Abu was making reels in 1941 and is considered the first "modern" multiplier reel, 6 years before the spincast reel. Even the Abu reel built on previous designs going back to the 1840s with Snyder reels. If Abu are credited with the first modern multiplier reel, then Mitchell have to take the crown for the first modern spinning reel with the Mitchell 300 in 1948. This actually makes the spinning reel more modern than either the spincast or the baitcast reels. The prosecution rests your honor.... ?

If anyone is interested the gates for access to stumpfield marsh and Hopkinton lake in contoocook, nh were closed and locked this weekend. There was no notice why (high water/coved/whatever). If anyone has an update for when they are opened please post here as I’m loathe to drive up there just to find out they are still locked in a couple of weeks. J.
