Trolling Batteries
I'm going into season 5 with the cranking & 2 trolling motor batteries that came with my tracker 175 in 2019. I charge them when I get home and keep them on trickle charge.

Using a clear coat on hard baits/lures to avoid paint loss ?
^^^ This. I use Devcon 2-ton thinned to a paint like consistency. Though I only do it on the lure blanks I airbrush myself, as the airbrush paint I use is water based and I need to protect it.

Should have bought a boat - maybe
I have both a kayak and a boat. I don't really prefer one over the other. And I don't fish the same waters with the kayak and the boat. The boat goes on the bigger waters. The kayak goes on the skinny waters that I could never use the boat for. I find the kayak great for heading out for an evening after work on the smaller waters close to home. They both open up places to fish, just different places to fish. I do know when all I had was a kayak, I wanted a boat. Now I have a boat, I would not be without the kayak.

Do you seal the cork on your rods with a cork sealer?
^^^ Same, naked cork. Don't like the feel of sealed cork.

Boating Necessities / Must Haves?
First aid kit. Mine includes tourniquets and trauma bandages. Because propellers and people don't mix without major trauma being involved. Spare kill switch lanyard. Spare drain plug. Noco (or similar) battery for jumping the engine if the battery goes flat.

Solar Eclipse
I've heard the same said about bass fishing. Glitter boats, a dozen rods and big trucks. Driving for hours to get to lake. I've just learned a whole bunch of middle-aged anglers out there with too much money and time on their hands. Or maybe, just maybe, accept that not everyone has the same interests as you, and that we can be a bit more accepting of each other. Why be so judgmental? Are they harming you? Why seek divisions and condemn, when there is far more that unites us than divides us.

2024 classic
And Scott Martin was glued to his FFS and missed the cut. Edited - I'm actually thinking of Lake Fork, not the classic. But same thing.

225 Johnson H/P
If it's not peeing within a few seconds something is wrong. And while the heat sensor may keep you safe from overheating (Not sure if it will shut down the engine on your Johnson), that isn't a great help when you are miles from the ramp.

Bryan New vs. Andrew Upshaw....New's DQ at the Santee Open
Discus, hammer throw and Javelin were originally weapons of war! Is it a pro sport when you only have an offence?

Hank Parker's Controversial Take on FFF!!
- Post a photo a day!
Randy Johnson took up photography after retiring from the leagues. Randy Johnson Photography – Photography from Hall of Fame Pitcher Randy Johnson (rj51photos.com) His logo commemorates the event!- Never mind MLF rules...just don't crash
Same way they do it on trucks. GPS logger. Analyse the track post event and instant disqualification for exceeding 6 knots in a no wake zone. You just need to geofence the no wake zones and run the log data to check speeds in the geofenced zone.- I May Never Clean My Reels Again
Well, you know when they say assembly is the reverse of the disassembly steps? I'd like to mention that when I took it apart the spring went ping and flew across the room. For reassembly to be the reverse of the above I would place the spring across the room and have it fly back into the reel housing and compress itself ready for the mating part to be added. Unfortunately, the second law of thermodynamics prevents this critical reassembly step from happening. This is why I never go beyond taking the side plates off and checking if it needs further disassembly for cleaning. If it does, I send it out.- Hank Parker's Controversial Take on FFF!!
This is really the heart of the matter. So far, the studies that have been done on bass fishing indicate no changes necessary. But, we need longer term studies on more lakes across the country. And pollution and habitat change need to be factored in. You can argue fair chase and FFS as much as you like, and it's a valid debate. But so far, no study has indicated any adverse impact to a Bass fishery from its use. If there is one, please link it. Without hard data, everything else is just an anecdote.- Hank Parker's Controversial Take on FFF!!
Younger folks can't afford a 21ft glitter boat with a 250hp motor for $80K either. Or a 70k truck to pull it with. I'm middle aged with a good job and I can't afford these things either. Not with a family and all that goes with that. And yet, at the elite levels you need a 21ft boat with a 250hp motor. Garmin Livescope is $1200 or so. Add a 9" SV UHD on sale for $700 and you get FFS for less than 2 grand. I just spent more than that for a Garmin Force. For a 5-year-old Tracker 175 with a 60 HP pulled by a 20-year-old truck. I do not for a moment buy the cost argument. FFS is cheap compared to the trucks and boats. And screens were multiplying with 12" and 16" units before FFS. There are many arguments for/against FFS, but cost is not one of them.- Hank Parker's Controversial Take on FFF!!
He's been the poster child for FFS. So FFS is not a magic bullet.- Hank Parker's Controversial Take on FFF!!
And yet Ben Millikan finished 50th....- Hank Parker's Controversial Take on FFF!!
The golf analogy has been raised a few times in this thread. One solution might be akin to the golf handicap. Each inch of screen diagonal is so many points. Each transducer is so many points. Spotlock, sidescan etc. is so many points each. You can spend those points how you like, but there are never enough points to have everything. So, you may be able to have FFS and spot lock on the boat, but only one 9" screen on the console and one 12" screen on the bow. Or maybe forgo a GPS enabled trolling motor and get 2 bigger screens on the bow. This is kind of like video games where, as you level up you get to choose where you spend your points, but it's never enough to get everything. This way nothing gets banned and everything becomes compromised best suited to how you fish.- What is your fishing Dogma?
Same here. Sometimes it's more about learning a new technique than getting a tug on the line. At the end of the day for the majority of us it's all about unwinding from work and relaxing on the water, fish or no fish.- Me & My Money!
Dude! You're in Alabama, so you've got no excuse for not being on the water, It's only just stopped being hard water season here on the lakes I fish. Sunday will be the first day out on the boat, with a forecast high of 40F! I've been out on the kayak locally on the small lakes.- your favorite fishing-related hack
This man speaks the truth. I joked in another thread asking if anyone would ever ask a question that Glenn does not have a video for. I got back into fishing in middle age after having stopped fishing in my late teens to do other stupid things like alpine mountaineering. Glenn specifically, and too many people to mention by name who are regular contributors have elevated my game immensely. I rarely ask questions, because there is usually a thread or video that addresses the question. This place is awesome.- crankbait pricing observations
In other words, some crankbaits are better than others, and not all angers can see that worth. And some crankbaits are poor knock offs trying to charge premium prices. The measure of value lies solely with the one paying the bill. In any endeavor, be that fishing tackle, employment, housing, cars. Especially cars. Who the heck can afford an $75K truck?- Things we have learned from FFS
Me too, but I just bought a Garmin Force and the CFO say's that's all the capital expenditure allowed for the year. - Post a photo a day!
