My son may have a future!!!
I got my son a subscription to a 3d cad program for Christmas. He drew a sweet picture of a Megabass Dark Sleeper. Now I want to buy him the lure.

Share your hidden gems.
My new Champion Extreme 743c paired with a Curado 150 MGL. Lightest rod I've ever casted. Threw it around in the street with a weightless senko and you could feel every pebble.

Spinnerbait hacks
Well, I got my 3rd Yozuri Knuckleballer spinnerbait in a box of the month. I'll spare the name, I bet you guys could figure it out. Anyway, I decided to improve it. I used a pair of o ring pliers and stripped off the ball. The shank is very short, so I have no idea how this is going to work. I used a large willow leaf blade as my spinner blade. The jig head actually looks pretty good. Decent skirt but I just couldn't get passed the ball. How did I do? When do you use single bladed spinnerbaits?

Pick one rod
I have some credit at Dobyns. Help me fill the gap. Pick one rod to add this. Dobyns CHAMPION XP 685CB Jerkbaits, Poppers Dobyns KADEN 735CB Squarebills, Traps, Top Water Dobyns CHAMPION XP 744C Jig and Texas Rigs Dobyns FURY 735C Frogs, Bull Shad Swimbait Dobyns FURY 702SF Dropshot, Ned Rig, neko rig, tubes *Disclaimer...I already own these rods. I'm trying to decide on a 3 power. I think I'm going to splurge on a DX 743C.

Only one moving bait rod
I feel like the 735cb is a great rod for lipless and squarebills. I just don't think the 735cb can throw 3/8oz spinnerbaits with a trailer likewise with a chatterbait and trailer. You're going to want a glass rod for those. Probably the 736cb glass. It took some convincing, but the 734c is a rod that can fish spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs, squarebills and lipless and I'd go with a Sierra 734C. It's got a unique action that makes it slower than a Champion, which is ideal for moving baits.

Pro Influence
For me, I was influenced more by reading forums and getting resourceful information. The general consensus lead me to a specific brand because there are so many threads about these particular rods. I was also influenced by YouTube and watching reviews on products. I'm not speaking across the board, but rare items like JDM and the like influenced me as well. Believe it or not, the Japanese fishermen drool over Zoom baits because they are so rare in Japan. The Zoom brand is our Megabass. The JDM Scorpion reels are Curados here in the states, but to me it's a cool item to have. There are some subtle differences, but the same technology. I also am influenced by appearances. I like 6th Sense hardbaits and I like Reaction Innovations, Zoom, Yum, Missile and Googan softbaits. I try stuff and if I catch consistently, then they remain a staple. I strike out a lot and it's probably the fisherman more than the lure. I've caught fish on Wal Mart frogs. I do think the pros have some effect, I mean look at KVD and his line. He probably makes twice as much on his KVD line than he does in tournaments, but you can't discount his track record. To the consumer, if KVD uses it, so will I. I just pick what I like and become a loyalist. I will never switch my rod preference and I like Shimano reels.

Chattertube?
I tried it, got me thinking and was bored. Had a bunch of unused Original Chatterbaits and a few Academy brand. Seemed like a great idea. I'm for presenting lures that the bass have never seen, since I fish 4 or 5 ponds that get pressure. I hate there's a bunch of negative talk about it. Oh well, I'm still going to try it. Nothing to lose. I ended up using a lighter to mend the cut he instructed to insert the piece of trick worm.

What lure did you catch your biggest bass on in 2021 ?
December 31, 2021 BPS Tube Black and Blue flake 3.75" Measured 22" and according to Texas Parks and Wildlife it equates to 6.40lbs. Not bad for a 1/2 acre cow pond.

Spinning outfit vs baitcast outfit for smallies
I'm a firm believer in spinning gear. However, bass fishing is purely situational. Yesterday I was sure the bass would bite the jerkbait, jig, lipless crank, slow dragging an Ol Monster. All baitcaster driven applications They, instead, wanted a tube on a medium light spinning rod. Never in a million years would I try a tube, but it called for it and yielded a good return. It's all subjective. I would understand the nature of the pond, creek or lake, then make your game plan These days companies are featuring finesse reels and rods. So it all boils down to what you are confident in. Do you like baitcasters or spinning reels? Never fished smallies, but every YouTube video I watch every angler has a spinning outfit. I believe you could probably fish with 2 spinning rigs one medium light (Ned rigs, neko rigs, dropshots and tubes) and medium fast (wacky rigs and shaky heads) and a medium heavy rod baitcaster for versatility.

chris zaldain moving on from megabass
dang, just as I started getting interested in Megabass because of him. Googan makes good soft plastics, they don't last for multiple catches, but they work.

Chatterbait hacks
Meh, if you had a bunch of chatterbaits with poor skirts, it's worth a try. The key is keeping the chatterbait close to the bottom like he's hunting. Pop it on your retrieve. It just sparked my interest.

worm box
I typically use a stowaway Plano 3700 take out all the dividers, then I pick out 4 of each worm and store them like that, keep the rest in the bag. I'll spray my worms or soft plastics with Pam so they don't lose there stretch. Old hack my uncle taught me.

Chatterbait hacks
After my epic day yesterday fishing a tube, I stumbled across a YouTube video that showed a different chatterbait presentation that caught my interest. The idea is getting a chatterbait, take off the skirt, and then replacing it with a tube. For the life of me, I can't find the video now! Anyway, here's a picture.

Shimano equalivanlent of the Daiwa SV styles for skipping?
I think anything in the mgl class will get it done. The Chronarch or Curado 150 MGL are great for skipping.
