  1. I straddled the thin line of promoting a commercial endeavor. I didn't intend on selling it but who knows. I've seen that line crossed here by others before though. All good.
  2. I stopped working on it the day my thread was locked. With nobody to talk about it with I lost interest. Was just doing it for fun. I also think it's a potentially giant project that I will never finish, and with my tendinitis I'd rather go fishing than sit at my desk. Kind of a bummer because I had a lot of good ideas. I still have it though. Who knows maybe one day I'll pick it up. That's what she said
  3. They say it is because steelhead come up creek from the bay every year and they've been trying to keep them from disappearing completely. Something like that. The creek is closed to fishing in winter due to this. Barbless and artificial baits when fishing is open. The creek follows a pretty busy bike path so anyone fishing off season is asking to get caught. They asked, I answered
  4. That's some Lewis and Clark level exploration! I once rested my hand on a sea urchin in Hawaii. Several weeks later it was bothering me. I did some research on sea urchins, learned that pieces do often remain in the wound (they're barbed), then found myself digging a very tiny piece of it out of my finger with a razor blade and magnifying glass. I just used the corner of the blade to dig in and scrape around. Wasn't deep though! I don't recommend self-surgery but after looking at your thumb - yikes! I'm no tough guy, I almost passed out once trying to dig something out of my hand. I would think it's not uncommon for a tiny piece of bass spine to remain in a wound. Tell your wife it isn't likely to happen again, so you should be safe now. Or maybe mention that she's right and you'll be getting into skydiving instead of fishing.
  5. Your odds are millions of times better in Vegas. Lottery is for the mathematically challenged yet most people who play believe they are ahead monetarily, which is impossible. If you have ever been in line in front of me at the liquor store buying lottery tickets while my beer is getting warm, I hate you.
  6. Some critical thinking skills and a lot of skepticism will keep your head straight.
  7. Make a filter that removes any email with a certain subject line, or whatever. You'll never see them.
  8. I actually need to upgrade from 7 to 10 at home - a few programs require it. I use Win 10 at work and it is set up to look and act like Win 7. It doesn't auto-update, I never use Home versions of any OS. Never seen a BSOD with Win 10. I've had no problems with Win 10 at work. I've hung on to Win 7 as long as I can.
  9. Whatever's cheapest and has no scent.
  10. Pull my finger and find out!
  11. Barbless hooks are required in this creek. Barbed hooks are illegal, and artificial lures are also required. Why else would I care?
  12. I was going to do this method, but I came up with a way that requires no extension. Just lift one end and pivot the yak so the front or back is leaning on the roof, perpendicular to the van/vehicle. Then lift the back and slide it up with the yak still perpendicular and balanced on the roof. Then just carefully rotate the thing 90 degrees. I put a towel on the roof next to the rack to avoid scratching when I first lean it. If I just slide it from the back I have a lot more chance of messing up my van.
  13. Oh ya sure, the old "the motor sucks but hey I'll buy it off ya real cheap!" trick.
  14. I called CalTip today to report poaching for the first time ever. My stepdad actually saw them while biking on the nearby path. I was at home. He said he saw probably 15 of the bucket brigade fishing the creek which is closed to fishing between November and April. He was hoping to see me fishing there. I asked if he noticed the No Fishing signs and he said yes. That's why I'm not there. He doesn't fish. After some thought I called it in. If I can't fish right now they sure as heck can't, especially since many won't have licenses, will not be using artificial baits, will not be using barbless hooks, and will be leaving beer and corn cans all over shore. I'm very surprised so many were doing it. There is no lifting of the rules because of Covid or anything like that. And you know what? Screw the whole "they need to feed their family" malarkey I sometimes hear. Who doesn't? Steal from the grocery store and see how that works out for you. The nice woman thanked me for calling.
  15. Actually I did fish a pond with a mucky bottom 2 weeks ago. Totally forgot. I started with a split shot rigged Zoom finesse worm of some kind. It started pulling up snot from the bottom so I removed the weight and it performed a lot better.
  16. I meant a bobber with a "whatever-rigged" plastic, like floating it above the muck. I have no idea if that would work well, I haven't used a bobber since I was 10 years old worm fishing for trout I thought I'd heard of people using bobbers with certain lures. Heck I dunno LOL.
  17. If there's snot on the bottom I stay away from the bottom, period. There's no way to avoid getting it on my rig. There's this stuff that I call "hair" at the bottom of the creek I fish. Looks like very long black hair like from the movie The Ring. It sticks to branches and stuff underwater and the current makes it look like thick flowing(?) very long manes of hair. Nasty, I hate it. It's here and there in the creek. Dead plant fibers of some kind I guess. I just avoid it or stay above it. If you're not afraid of being laughed at you could try a bobber I suppose.
  18. I've come to the same conclusion after watching that! The surprise strikes get the "Oh!" Kinda funny watching/hearing myself, and I love having my biggest catches all on video. I almost always use the camera. Edit to add: I also noticed many many of those catches were right next to shore. A couple were practically at the rod tip with 2 feet of line out.
  19. Here it is, because that's how bored I am these days! I put a link to BassResource in the video description and explained why this video exists. Having the camera on probably makes a difference in what I say, but I tend to talk to myself anyways and I sometimes forget I have it. I always have it.
  20. Hold it out the window! My main goal is to fish better fisheries. I'm starting right away by going to Camanche this weekend. Too bad it's Winter and I'll be stuck on shore, but my cousin just moved near it so I'm visiting him. There is also a three acre pond down the street from his house with bass so we'll probably screw around there instead. Not too many houses in his area (north of the lake). Not sure what to expect. We also may head up the hwy a bit and try some trout fishing. I will probably move out there again somewhere...sick of the Bay Area.
  21. I'm gonna hit Camanche next weekend I THINK. If you're in that area let me know. Not sure if I'm bringing the yak. I definitely could. Going to visit my cousin who just moved there. I'd still like to hit the Delta. Just bought my $69.12 two rod license today so I'm ready.
  22. Last I read it is closed. Maybe you can drive over the hill to the Woodchopper picnic area (if it's still called that). Do a search and you will find the answer.
  23. And that's all it takes to add another dimension to the day. One of my most fun days fishing was actually surf fishing for perch with a good friend. After a couple of catches he said, "Two to nothin'!" and it was ON! We were running all over the beach, trash-talkin, laughing, and the score ended up 13 to 12 in his favor. I recorded every catch on video and I laugh every time I watch it. Great day. To address the mortality rate, at least for smaller tournaments, I wonder if simply measuring instead of weighing the fish would be fine, like in kayak tournaments. This might have the side effect of removing the temptation to catch spawning fish since weight would not be a factor. This would be for tourneys who don't have officials in every boat to weigh the fish, which I also like. Just a thought. I just want to do local tourneys, maybe on my Dad's lake and on the Delta. I'm not that great or even that competitive, but I think it would be fun.
  24. Depends on who "you" is. The fish I have dropped will disagree. I think my tendinitis makes my grip weak sometimes, even though it doesn't feel that way. I've lost a fish while I'm switching hands too. If you're holding it tight with your fingers I don't see the difference. I also support it's belly most of the time and I never drop them that way. They don't shake hard in that position.
  25. Yes on punching. Few months ago my one section of creek was solid mat for 200 yards. Never seen that there before. I avoided it for awhile then said what the heck. Kept my T-rigged worm on and chucked it way out there. Got hit first cast. Caught five from the same spot in 3 feet of water and less. Sometimes they'd hit it on the fall, others would hit it like topwater as I dragged it back. First time I'd really fished a mat. As said above, it was the right section of creek to make it easy to fish - casted from the inside of a bend in the creek and could cast a long way because of it. That was very fun!
