  1. My spinnerbait combo consists of a BPS Graphite Series rod :6-6 MH Mod-fast action I believe(not rated ) paired with a BPS Extreme 6.3:1. I bought the rod in sale for $19.99 and the reel in clearance for $47.95(if I remember correctly) . The rod is not the lightes on the market and the reel is not the best I have, but spinnerbaits have some weight and are fairly easy to cast. There is no sensitivity issues involved (at least for me) in spinnerbaiting. Have the combo for a couple years now and it works out great for me. Hope it helps...
  2. Wellcome! You are in the right place !
  3. Fish for fun, but if I decide to upgrade my "vessel" and buy a bass boat, I might try my hand in a couple turneys...
  4. I make sure I keep some bass just above the legal limit every year , on every lake I regularly fish. I decide how many depending on the feel I get while fishing. If I catch a lot of "pounders" and hardly any bigger than 3-4 lpb, I'll start "thinning" them. Even though we preffer walleye , perch or crappie, all fish gets eaten. Young fish tastes better than old ones !! Everything over 2lb goes back to make babies, even if I'm not sure it'll survive.
  5. Depends on the ACTION !!! Who knows if next season they will not add some variety to their line-up ?? Parabolic to moderate >deep cranckbaits Mod-fast > Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits Fast + XFast > Jigs, t-rig, maybe C-rig ,some frogs, sencos, etc, etc ... Tight lines
  6. Right on !!! That's my "go to"/ "no skunk", bait but I'm using 3/16 weight, T-rigged. Sometimes I peg the weight and slide it about 2 ft up the line and fish it as a finess C-rig/ splitshot-rig
  7. I highly respect and admire Rick Clunn and I kinda' understand the idea, but "no, thank you". I will use the same rod+reel for the same technique religiously, but I want the specific power & action for every technique. For example: I use exclusively a 6-6 mh/modfast(?) BPS Graphite for all my spinnerbaiting and buzzbaiting. I would never even consider useing annother set-up.That's a reason why I don't fish this 2 categories of lures at the same time(I suppose I could buy annother identical combo, but I don't feel I need it). They kind off complement eachother : If the buzzer doesn't work, or I am getting short strikes, I'll change to a spinnerbait; iff the spinner doesn't produce strikes, I'll try on the surface. If one of them works, I'm not gonna change. It takes me a couple casts to readjust to annother combo, but I will fish a certain technique with a certain combo, allways. Now this gets me thinking I should have identical reels on all my rods... ...I don't think I can afford to buy a dozen identical baitcasters that I'd like at the same time, unless I sign the divorce papers and somehow end up walking away with some money ;D ;D ;D
  8. Go with the BPS Graphite first. If keep "unbuttoning" themselves while reeling them in, you need a softer action rod. I use the BPS Graphite 6-6 MH as my spinnerbait rod and it works great. Let us know how it works out !
  9. I have a couple of Daiwa Regal Z(2500) for almost 10 years and I used them for everything : bass, walley, pike, carp, cats... I had no problems with them (properly mainteined). Cost me half of the SS each ( fortysome $, I don't even remember exactly) The SS has a great drag ,but thats about it.
  10. you should be OK. What power and action rod do you plan to use for this task ?
  11. I agree on both counts. A ML rod is not for jigs...
  12. Interesting !!!! First thing that comes to mind is Kistler rods. Rods are ok, I guess; but I don't fancy the owner of the company. For some reason I don't buy Quantum; nothing against it but I always find another brand with a better product at similar price. And their design team sucks.Either too flashy or too bland. Like they would try to sell jewelry to teenager girls or suits for amish people. Not much in between. I don't spend my money on Eagle claw stuff, even if it's cheap.(or maybe that's why?) 'Nuff for now...
  13. I think you get the best bang for your buck somewhere arround $150 , depending on brand.
  14. Agree; the only reason I don't like them is their "humpy" handle...Otherways they are good CB rods. By the way : is there a way to reshape the handle at minimal cost? (The reel seat is bulkier too, to accomodate the hump)Could I just take some sandpaper at it?
  15. My favorite is Tectan Premium Plus, but it was not on the list. My second option is P-Line, different varieties. On cold weather/water I like Trilene XL

    Buy them all !!!!!
  17. This reel was one of the best reels on the market at the moment they came out (probably about 20-25 years ago), but they are way, way outdated. They are not worth even half the price. But the company is making huge profits on it, and that's all it counts (for them). Any brand you pick has better reels in that price range.
  18. Yep, that's business from Shimano... Come up with a gimmick and take the money out of peoples pockets! That's how stockholders get rich ! And it does the job as well as a $50 reel ;D
  19. I'd go a bit more "moderate" for spinnerbaits...Like Mod-Fast (?). But that's just me... If you are not fishing cranckbaits you are loosing out on a lot of fun !!!
  20. I am not using braid on any (fast)moving bait. I use Tectan Premium Plus (Cabelas) on warm weather, Trilene XL on cold weather. I use thin line because where I fish the water is fairly open and the fish are not that big( my pb is only 5-09lb). The specs on the Tectan line I use most of the time say: 0.25mm( that's about 0.095) and breaking strength of 13.9lb. It is not as soft as some other lines(like Trilene XL) in cold weather/water but it's much thinner than other lines and I realy like it. Now imagine a spinnerbait traveling at a speed of 8-12 inches/second, a bass comming up on it from behind and trying to suck it in; that bait has to move about 6" BACKWORDS to get in his mouth ! If you keep reeling and there in no "give" in your rod and line, that bait is not gonna go backwords at all. You might feel a "tick" in your X-fast and sensitive rod and no strech braid, know it was a bass and also know you missed it. I don't think a medium power/moderate action rod is good for SBs unless it has a realy strong but section and is capable of setting the hook properly(remember that you have strech in your line and a bit of softness in your rod). Go for a Med, if you are throwing light SBs(less than 1/4 oz); above 1/4oz is Med-heavy in my book. Tight lines
