  1. No cure, thanx God...I hope those bio -chemists keep working on cancer, HIV and other deadly deseases. "Monkitis" is not deadly, as far as I know... : There is some "medication" to keep this "monkitis baitis" under some control. One of them is "significant other" gel tablets (acts fast) I preffer to keep only one $20 bill in my walet (and some $10,$5,$1) when I'm roaming close to "monkey territory". I sometimes use "plastic", but I'm trying realy hard to cut down on this bad, bad habit. I have no doubpt I can quit sometime in the next 137 years!!!
  2. Nice smalies (or is it the same one ??). Could you smile while holding such nice fish ???
  3. WELL DONE !!! Love catching Pike , hate when they swim away with my lure
  4. Lots'a walley fishermen in the Detroit and St. Claire rivers use Yellow braided lines for jigging. Some tie directly to the jig, some use a leader(mono or fluoro). Some use a black permanent marker (like Sharpie) to colour a couple of feet at the end of the braid; the braid becomes dark olive/ greenesh. Of course they use the thinnest ones (with like 2lb diameter). Tieing directly doesn't seem to lower the catch rate. Hope it helps.
  5. If you line is heavier than 10lb and has a lot of memory( for example Trilene XT), that might be the problem.Make sure you are using a soft line( like Trilene XL).I don't necessarily recomend Trilene, it's just for understanding the difference. Your rod is fine; I supose the reel is a decent quality in good working order ( if NO, that adds to your dissatisfaction too) And of course, all the previous advice applies.
  6. The challange : finding them and making them bite. But that's true for every species I fish for. Just being outdoors.
  7. I have 2 Capricorns (2000 and 2500), but not the new (orange) ones. Bought them in clearance in novembre for about $ 80 each . Fished them a couple times . Nice and smooth !!!!!!!! . Great drag, also.
  8. Power Pro or Sufix, forget the others...
  9. ;D I think 1/3 turn of the reel handle per second is closer to the truth... : You got nothing better to do than screw up our brains ????????? GO FISH !!!!!!!!!!
  10. Me too !!! There are about 2 dozen lakes and ponds in the park, only 7(?)are right off the road, you have to hyke to the others.I remember also Askoti, Skanati, Silver lake but I can't come up with the other 2 bigger lakes. There are some nice smallies in the Ramapo river (and trout, and carp)...
  11. Green-monster: Youngman, I raise my hat to you !!! Just my opinion, Fish Cris: I think the youngster would get more fun out off a nice combo than a replica that hangs on the wall and colects dust ( he'll never forget that fish anyhow !!!). Or you might teach him how to catch an even bigger LMB. Or both... Nice gesture to give the youth credit !!!
  12. Dont worry Im sure they will turn it around they always do, but just in case Go Red Sox!. And how about those METS?????? I thank God for everithing He did, does and will do for us; keeping my family (and me) alive, ask him to keep us employed, ask Him to grant us good health, a little bit of luck and....keep those wind under 10mph, cause my canoe can't handle rough water.
  13. Muddy, we lived in Queens for 8 years, on 67th Place, right off Myrtle Ave.The closest "pond" to our place was Prospect Park, where I spent lots of "after work" hours. Not on week-ends( it was a mad house), when I would drive to Jersey or Upstate NY (Harriman state park mostly, or up route 17). Time flies ...

Yeah, and than an "ocean cruiser" ;D ;D ;D
  15. Jokes asside, Muddy, there's some good bass fishing at Prospect park !!!!( not every day though, and not very big ones). I honed my skills there for about 6 years. It's a real challenge, but I think I have a better than 50/50 chance of catching bass pritty much anywhere I go (mostly in vacations). Tight lines
  16. Most of my reels cost at least double the price of my rods, and I like how the combo's work. Everybody would like to fish with top money custom gear, most of us can't afford it. So I set a "limit" for myself at about $200-250 a combo. If I would be a "bass only" fisherman, I'd raise that limit a bit, but I have tackle for other species, too. I buy my fishing gear in clearance, sale, use coupons/promotions and Cabelas poits, so it costs me less than $200 for combos that retail for more than $250. I feel there is enough quality in them, and doubleing the money spent would not give me a lot more in quality and fishing pleasure. But that's just me....
  17. Nice job. Now go out there and catch'm !!!!!!!!!!!
  18. ;D ;D Now seriously, if I'd send you some blanks, would you pait them ??????? PM me
  19. Speaking of BARGAINS... Bargain doesn't mean "cheap" !!!!!!!! I don't buy stuff because it's cheap. I buy stuff if it's a bargain !!!! For example: -I bught 2 medium/ moderate IM6 grafit trigger rods (made on pfluger blanks, quality cork handles, fuji guides) for light and medium duty cranckbaiting. The original price was $49.99. Was discontinued and there was a "sale" on top of that so it cost me $14+tax each. -Yo-zuri cranckbaits, minowbaits,poppers,walk-the-dog stile for $3.99 each(about $7 originally) -Daiwa Capricorn spinning reels at about $70 each(different sizes) -Daiwa TD-S baitcasters for $65-80 ....................................................................... Cabelas has The TDZs for $199. It's a bargain, but I'm not willing to spend that kind of money for a reel, when my TD-Ss work just fine I dont buy apiece of cr@p just because " it's cheap". DON'T SPEND ON BAD PRODUCT ONLY BECAUSE "IT'S CHEAP". LOOK FOR BARGAINS !!! What would you buy: a 3 year old Dodge Neon for$5,000 or a 3 year old Lexus for $10,000? The Dodge is cheaper, but the Lexus is the bargain Just my $0.02
  20. The 3" version single tail in "glow", white, chartreuse, yellow with or without sparcle cought plenty of crappie and bass for me(1/8-1/4oz jig, similar colours). The black with a black jig head landed a couple of double digit carp. For bass fishing I use the 4" size single tail (same colours plus watermelon and pumpkin) on painted jigheads to immitate swimming minnows. The double tail goes mostly as a trailer on SBs, jigs, Johnson spoons (colours to match the bait). I had some vicious strikes swimming a 3/8 bass jig (white head + whitish, peppered, translucent skirt) with a 4" "glow" double tail trailer fished like a spinnerbait on weedy flats.
  21. For open water I would stay under 10lb, watever brand you choose. I fish 8lb P-Line CX or 13.9lb Tectan Premium Plus. They have about the same diameter (aprox 0.010), and they test about the same for breaking, even if P-line is rated for only 8lb. The P-Line is softer, the Tectan is slightly stiffer, but fishes well even on spinning reels. I think line diameter is more important than lb rating (wich is not accurate anyway !!!, is just a sales gimmick). The line dia. has more influence on managebility, flow of the reel and through guides, casting distance, etc. than lb rating. My $0.02
  22. Would be nice to have a line that "does it all" : Until than, there will be situations when one tipe of line outfishes the others. Use the right tool for the job !!! I like mono for fast presentations (cranks, spinnerbaits), fluoro for finess and very clear water, braid(power pro) for long distance/ sensitivity and nasty cover (mostly weeds). Most of the times I start with a 4-6ft leader (gets shorter after retieing a couple times) when I'm using braid. In some situations a leader is not necessary( like frogging, slop fishing...) Hope it helps...
  23. You might be surprised to find that the fish didn't move, just got a bit slugish. Any way I'm looking at it, the Northern side( north-western side) sould be the warmest. A drop of 5* farenheid is not that much, and they can't find warmer water. No need for search bait ! They are there!!! If they moved deeper, I'd start looking in the same area 2-4 ft deeper in/ close to grass or wood, especialy wood that sufaces( heats up and warms water around it). Traps & spinnerbaits could be good, but my first option would be a 6" T-rigged lizzard (junebug) 1/8 or 3/16 weight, 3/0 EWG Gammy. Fluke or slug-go on the second rod. Some kind of top water bait on my 3rd rod, probably a pop-r, maybe buzzer (probably later in the day). Shallow diver or medium diver cranckbait (Norman Little N, natural colour) on my 4th rod. But thats just me...
