  1. Man I'm sorry to here that knowing how excited you were. just sickening!
  2. Ive heard the complaints in the SX but is it me or what? Ya it does free spool really fast and no you cant balance your bait like any other reel and get the same result, I chalk it up to great Swiss engineering, Within 15 minutes in the yard I had it figured out and since then it has slowly become one of my favorite reels. The more I throw it the more it I love it! and yes I do have Shimano's That I love as much, Mainly Curado's, Citica's and one Calcutta, The feel of the two are just different, my next reel at Christmas will Be a Citica E so I can check out the new Frame. On my Revo S I have two brakes set, I have my Shimano's brakes set the same. I think my Citica throws a bit further but its sits on a Medium rod where my S sits on a MH. I may try to go to one brake like Red suggested and see if I can gain anything.
  3. That's impressive on both accounts. can you post his statement? I may have to look closer at these rods. I prefer to spend my money where they show integrity and great service!
  4. I got one at 5:30 am today. It was the last sealed one and the guy beside me got the display. It kinda reminds me of the Bantam Citica with updates. I think I'm gonna love this reel for what I gave for it!
  5. Great starter reel for the money! If you've thought about learning to throw a BC or need a affordable reel this sale only goes from 5am to 11am.
  6. I was curious to hear the odd things experienced or caught while fishing! I seen someone hook a frog and another guy pull a fishing pole from the depths. I pull in some broke off line with a live catfish still attached. I'm sure this wont even scratch the surface of odd thing that have happen.
  7. I would more than likely choose the body of water first and rig them with a bait that I felt has had the most success. Hopefully the fish will do the rest.
  8. No matter what you do don't toss all you gear because of a little burn out, even it it takes year to be called back to fishing you'll come back. I got burnt out fishing a local club for three years and discovered the cause of the burn out was focus .......YES FOCUS! I spent too much time preparing for the next lake, trying not to forget any gear, increasing my number of cast I would normally throw. reading up on new tackle, watching what the pros did on TV etc... My temper would rise often over little things. I did enjoy the competition and meeting new people and fishing new lakes but I got over absorbed. I lost focus on what I loved to do and that very thing will call you back. When I came back to it I fished alone! I think it was what I needed. No pressure, no expectations, Didn't give a crap about what I need to try or fish with and found it. the smell of nature and all the subtle sounds that you overlook when around other people, feeling like your the only person for miles, watching the animals go about there daily lives like your not even there although it may be only feet, your mind wonders through thoughts that have nothing to do with the other life that consumes you, the slow stretch of the line, your heart pumps , the fight, it's not very big but man look how pretty he is! Was I really fishing? Ya I was truly FISHING! Maybe its time to reconnect to what Fishing is to you! I suggest going back to the basics.
  9. I peg , I always have. I don't think that I've ever put any thought into it till now though. I read roadwarriors post and agreed with it, Then I read Bassin Fanatics post and agreed with it! i don't like the weight flopping and slidding around I guess but I'll have to also respectfully disagree on the effects of hookset.
  10. I cut my teeth on them so I cant utter a bad word about a Zebco, I think my son may feel the same! he caught this one earlier this summer on his 24$ 33 classic from Wally World. I remember catching catfish on them thinking the cats where going to rip it right off the pole and sneaking in a private lake as a kid at night, knowing it could handle a good fight but cheep enough to ditch if we had to run. I have three kids, we have three zebco 33 combos, ones pink. although it never gets used she had to have one too!
  11. I Think everyone is right, as for themselves. I agree some people have more sensitive hands than others. as for having a high end rod, to get that level of feedback through a rod you must spend alot of money! I don't agree, but saying that I realize there are some benefits to the expensive rod, I just don't see the value to me that would be worthy of the extra money where you may. I like to replace my rods every now and again and tend to find things I don't like about them after a bit of use, Ive also broke two very expensive brittle rods and it has ruined my day every time. I LOVE plastics T-riged ,Carolina, weightless, slow rolling spinners in cover, just about anything thing that lets you make a mental picture of whats under the water. I like sensitive rods! I wont buy a rod that doesn't have a blank through handle that you cant get two fingers on the blank while palming the reel,I hate a high seat, a weak backbone and large eyes. Do I spend 200 on a rod? no I can get plenty of rod for half that or less and replace it without feeling like I waisted money. you may feel that way at 50$ or 250$ fortunately the market has put out equipment that alot may refer to as a"good starter or economical" that are light years better than that broom stick I was fishing with 20 yrs ago. The only time anyone can say that they've truly spent too much money on a rod or reel is when your still trying to convince yourself it was worth it and cant explain to your friends why you never fish it! ...
  12. He measured at about twenty inches but we had no scale so we don't know the weight. We do know that he was big enough to make our cheeks sore from smiling !
  13. Thats a great looking bass, I like seeing how there back gets a hump when they get that big.. congratulations!
  14. He landed this one at about 10AM today. skunked me on size which always makes him happy :'(.
  15. My older son Jade has turned out to be a strong fisherman. he doesn't get bored , has plenty of patience, sometimes more than me. He can remove his own hooks, Tie his own knots, and carry all of his Tackle. He's starting to get better at watching his casts due to close calls with my head. My youngest son is his total opposite. Trace is never in a bad mood, cant concentrate for more than a few seconds and gets bored fast. I couldn't ask for a better set of boys! Trace finally asked to go fishing so we went and got him his own rod and took him yesterday. I must have put 100 worms on his hook before the day was out but finally a bass made its way to his bait. He was very excited, Me and Jade sure let him know how proud we were of him. After a couple more hours he was done and just opted for a nap. I don't know if he'll be ready for the next outing but it was alot of fun for Me and Jade. This may put it in to prospective for those who have taught Kids to fish or have taken them before. Left camera in truck Rods tangled while fishing -twice. Trevel hook in shoe from playing in tackle box. almost hit with bait while casting - many times! Only one broke rod from being stepped on -mine! and finally, a lost anchor - rope broke? After all of this I think I got to make about 20 casts, and caught two nice fish and only have proof of one due to the camera being in the truck but like I said we had a lot of fun.
  16. Didn't your first bass seem like a Monster! Trace Woodruff - 5yrs old. Tackle - Brand new Zebco 33 Classic combo. Bait - Night crawler with bobber.
  17. I agree Fish Chris..It's a knee jerk response for most of us who have been down this road a million times with the the same bad attitude response from both sides! It just brings back sick feelings if you've ever had a hole that's been fished out, This has happened to countless people here I'm sure. It just seem flat selfish even though the people that take them don't see it that way, I can see how they would think that if you grew up eating bass. I just wish they would spare the hogs but I don't see that ever happening. I nicely agree to disagree.
  18. I don't fault anyone for what they spend on there toys. I like a medium priced setup which rarely exceeds $250 and it feels like a $500 setup to me. What I spend is a lot if you ask some of my fair weather fishing friends, but thats what makes me happy. If someone has a $50,000 boat and need someone to fish out the back count me in! I can't afford a boat in that price range but I know These guys get as much enjoyment showing it and taking someone fishing who appreciates a nice boat as much as they do!....come on, who doesn't like riding in a Cadillac! The only thing that could ruin it is hearing about how much it was the whole time. My experience with guys who have boats this nice are usually enjoying it and feeling privileged to own one. It never feels like there saying look at me! They don't have too cause we are. My father's uncle was very well off with lake property, a high dollar speed boat and golf cart to get to the dock. It seemed it was just our family going over to his place. It wasn't because he wanted to show off, He just wanted someone around that enjoyed and appreciated what he loved to do. I wonder who had the better time. I don't know if I'll ever get one like that but there are a lot of things in life I want but cant afford. One day when the kids grow up a little and things line out I may be that guy, until then hats off to you guys that get the toys you want and don't forget to take me fishing!!!!!
  19. Thats a good question. If you look at the bottom of the link it shows he kept them and being in the 30's I don't think they were using C&R. What would you do? I'm sure the thinking was a lot different then and I'd probably keep them. http://www.mrlurebox.com/GeorgePerryBass.htm
  20. Man that got me hot! but I'll just say I respect your opinion and disregard your insults. I don't feel I need to go to church this weekend since I've heard enough preaching. There are plenty of people with just as big attitudes here so I'm opting out before mine shows. OK......Thinking Happy thoughts.......Ahhh...Better!
  21. You tried????? You did great! He will love it, when he picks out what he wants tell us what he bought! I bet its another Curado.
  22. I have alway set the lure weight a little heavier for beginners and will do this on a baitcaster I've never thrown. If your starting off give the rod a slight bump to start the lure to fall, Then set it to come to a slow stop before reaching the ground. This will give you good practice without the backlash. When you get more comfortable with the cast then you can lighten up on the spool and gain a few more feet. This is a good way to practice over head casts. I throw side arm but will tighten the spool a tad and throw a one handed overhead cast to split cover. Give it a try and you'll eventually get the feel and be cranking down the spool adjustment. another thing you must remember after you've set your weight and have been fishing it, If you fish a spot on a new angle and feel the wind hit your face crank it up a bit!
  23. I agree with Mr Saltwater. As far as baitcaster the Bass Pro Shop Citica combo and I think the Abu Garcia Revo combos are the best setups for the money. Overall satisfaction seem to be very high among members on this site. what type of reel do you fish?
  24. I agree A gift certificate is a great Idea, but you gotta realize ...If you give me one! get your stuff....Oh ...NO honey your hair looks great, I'll be waiting in the car!
