  1. For this zone take a hard look at the Livingston Bullnose 70mm wake. Depending on your retrieve speed, it'll crank down to about 1'-2' below the surface, and is essentially silent. This bait comes through emergent weeds remarkably well, especially if you fish it with a 15lb fluoro leader, or mainline, which will slightly pull the nose down which hides the front treble behind its bill. It's been a killer for me when they're feeding up over high grass and are uninterested in baits that are more chaotic. Rattles, pops, plops, etc. Natural Perch and Ginrin have been my #1 producers. 2. I haven't. Which is just fine for a saltwater reel. Probably not. Most likely nylon. It'll have crbbs(corrosion resistant). Typically black. The metal gear side plate Tatulas with the new gear cut are legit. If it fits your needs, go for it. P.S. The standard Tat 200 is my brother's favorite reel. Has 3 and he's had everything you'd recognize on TW.
  3. How far below the surface are the weeds in your preferred locations?
  4. Not true. It isn't invisible beyond a certain diameter. .007" is the size that's been quoted. That's extremely light line. Around here, before the weeds come into bloom, it's very effective for low light or night fishing in cold water where the presentation is slow and near or on the bottom. It's quite easy to feel the difference compared to other lines regarding the transmission of feel whether that's a bite or whatever you're bringing your lure through. Abrasion isn't my issue around here, so fluoro doesn't matter in that case, but for feel it's something special when the bites are subtle from cold and sluggish fish. P.S. Fujita came in 3rd last weekend using a 16lb leader during a northern smallmouth tournament.
  5. Not the top of the line stuff. Instead of fooling around with something like BPS fluoro, the best move is to buy once cry once. Get a spool of Tatsu and break it down into several runs. You can divide a 200 meter spool down to 4 runs of 164' and spool that on top of the backer of your choice. For Fluoro, I prefer braid as backer as it lays flat and it won't join the party during a fluff-up if you have one. You won't be slinging most conventional bass lures far enough to get down to the connection knot in most cases, so don't sweat it. Doubt you're casting much more than 100'. Maybe 120'. At the end of the day you'll be able to tell yourself and anyone else your final opinion from an educated viewpoint. None of us here can divine your capabilities as a caster or the GPA of your thumb, so that variable will remain a mystery. If you report that a line as supple and mono-like as Tatsu is unruly, it's safe to assume your skills are still lacking. On the other hand...I'm pretty sure you'll dig it.
  6. Amazon.com : Dobyns Rods Maverick Casting / 7'3" / 1 PC / 10-17 LB Line Weight / 1/4-3/4 Lure Weight/Medium/Heavy Fast Action/EVA-Split : Sports & Outdoors P.S. Mine showed up today well packed in a rod tube and supported by bubble wrap at the top, middle, and butt. I was surprised.
  7. Thanks for the generous offer, truly, but these reels will be gifted out next week to a few locals who can't afford BC rigs. Good guys, and I can't watch them breaking off fish anymore using spinning rigs and 8lb Trilene XL. Way too choked out around here for light line. One's getting my Fury 733C and the other's getting a Maverick 733C that I just snagged off Amazon for $45. Should be posting pics here tomorrow of that rod if it doesn't show up in pieces.
  8. Dobyn's Maverick. Picked up a few off Amazon for $25. Were $100 on TW. Guess they're blowing them out. Feels much more solid than expected. Double crank and double pinion bearings sez the schematic. MagTrax type brakes. Gifting them out.
  9. Chuck a bait with some resistance like a heavier crankbait or whopper plopper way out there and crank it back in, then post a pic of the line lay.
  10. Looks normal from here. Pinch the line when you reel if there's a big bow in the line from wind or excessive slack line and set the bail manually.
  11. Post a pic of your spool so we can see the line-lay.
  12. First Jon boat trip of the season with my brother. Only landed one bass as I was reluctant to jack a hookset from a seated position following back surgery a few months ago, so I watched several shake off. It definitely feels different than setting while standing up. On the flipside, Pickeral-palooza. They hooked themselves. I stopped counting at 15. All bites came on a Big Bite Baits 5" Jerk Minnow in watermelon red flake rigged on an Owner Twistlock Light 6/0. Somehow none of them bit through my Seaguar 10lb Blue Label leader, and I only needed to retie once.
  13. Scan eBay if you can't find a match from the usual suspects like Mudhole, etc. Tons of guides listed as Buy it Now.
  14. I started out buying left-handed reels so that I could cast with my right and not switch. Because I go out on small john boats and Sundolphins with another person, casting only righty became limiting depending on the direction we were moving around a lake. Clockwise or counterclockwise. So, I bought some right handed BCs and taught myself to cast with my left and crank with my right. Came pretty naturally to me for the most part and solved the above issue. In '22 I blew up my left shoulder. Rehab'd it back into shape over time but became reticent to test it by jacking a hookset, so I sold off my righty reels and learned to live with the previous limitation.
  15. 7'3" MH fast baitcasting rod with standard guides, not micro guides, so you can use a leader if you choose. 7 spd reel with 30lb braid mainline. 7' to 7'3" MF spinning rod with standard guides, same reason as above. 3000 size spinning reel spooled with 15lb braid mainline. You'll want to cast for distance, especially at Ronk, so don't be talked out of a 3000 size.
  16. Look at the 7"3" Heavy. Super durable and a great tip for launching frogs. Lew's Carbon Fire Casting Rod | Dick's Sporting Goods
  17. Dobyn's Maverick Casting Reel's as low as $25. Clip the coupon for 20% off. Amazon.com : DOBYNS RODS Maverick Casting Reel/Size 100 / Gear Ratio 6.5:1 / Ball Bearings 11BB+1RB / LH/Blue : Sports & Outdoors
  18. There are times and places where they don't like the chaos of rattles. I can't get a sniff on anything but silent wake baits and cranks going back years at my favorite local spot.
  19. So, you'll probably be fine. I did need to change out a tip-top on a Lew's Carbonfire H after braid cut a groove in it. However, that was following several seasons of throwing heavy bottom baits and dragging them through junk which kicks up silts. Those silts/fines will coat the braid making it abrasive creating a bit of a saw. If you're just fishing, you'll be fine. That Carbonfire now has a SIC tip-top, so it's bulletproof going forward.
  20. Just for your curiosity: 4412042516247
  21. I'm seeing at least 2 washers between the spring washers and the roller clutch sleeve. Right? Is the other reel the same? Regardless, did you figure out the problem?
  22. It's shown as part #49 (optional)
  23. Did you remove the lube port screw and cap before you pulled the side plate? That would cause the trouble you're describing, if I'm understanding this correctly.
