canoeist, and kayakers. your rain gear?
I keep a Frog Toggs poncho in my kayak. It covers my whole body and arms. 100% of rain I'll stay home.

Nightmare fuel.....worst Bass fishing injury I've ever heard
Many years ago I was on a jetty in S Calif and another fisherman walked up to me with a jig through his ear. A west coast jig is a cast metal 2-6 oz piece of metal with treble hooks like a diamond jig. I bent the barb down and removed it.

Minn Kota Terrova for bass fishing
I used an electric steer for years before I got a cable steered motor. You get used to the delay and anticipate your movements. That said cable steering is much better.

Fly fishing - what am I missing?
I've caught a few small bass on a flyrod while fishing for bluegill but otherwise I'll use another technique.

Bluegill rod.
Used a Mudhole SC72UL / 6'0" / Ultra Light blank and built a bluegill rod last year and am using it every time I go fishing recently. I tried it worm fishing when I built it and caught a couple of 2 lb Alabama Bass with it. Using a 1000 size reel and 4 lb mono and it's very hard to set the hook on a bass however with a 1/32 oz Beetle Spin it's a killer on stumpknockers and redbreast in FL. A 4" bream feels strong with this rod and it casts great. I have about $40 in the rod with SSR guides and a palm swell reel seat.

Went to the local river this afternoon and even caught a fish. Fished for a couple of hours until my shoulder started to hurt. Caught 6 bass with a 2.95 lb largest. Almost every cast I had a stumpknocker or redbreast bite on a worm so at the end I threw a beetlespin and caught a dozen or so. Everyone has seen the picture of a LM bass with me holding it. With no rain the river is dropping and it's getting harder for me to get up river. There are many rocks and trees upstream that I have to be very careful not to tear the lower unit and prop up. There's also a tree across the river that I have to bump over even trimmed up.

Rod tip wear (with pics)
I use the SSR guides but always a ceramic tip top. I've seen that with an SSR or Minima tip top.

making your own plastics - couple questions
I personally use a dipping dye, JJs Magic for the tail.

What is this?
In talking to a knowledgeable friend he said it looks like a male Coppernose Bluegill.

What is this?
Went to the local river this afternoon and the water temperature in the canals was 5* colder than the main river. Caught a few bass and a bream I don't know what kind it is. Had a couple of larger bass get off and caught a 6 lb mudfish. Saw 1/2 dozen gators and lots of different birds and think I glimpsed a turkey sneaking away.

How many licenses do you carry?
GA and FL

Food while you fish?
I used to take a cooler with 3 cans of beer, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 6 lemon cookies, some apple slices and a bottle of water. I'd usually bring home everything except 1 beer and the sandwich. Always keep 1/2 gallon of water in the boat. Now I bring a protein drink and a couple of granola bars for my short trips.

New lake.
Thanks for the encouragement, if I didn’t go fishing I’d have to mow the lawn all day or install the dishwasher that’s been on the porch for a week.

New lake.
Fished a lake today with lots of stumps and dark water. Got stuck a couple of times that took a long time to get free. Lots of ospreys and other birds. There are marked channels but anywhere off them is dangerous. I didn't fish very long and only had 2 bites and landed 1 fish.

Lithiums or Lead Acid?
How would anyone not go with lithiums. The cheaper ones are less $ than lead acids or AGMs and weigh 1/4 as much. Plus they last much longer and the boat will go faster on the trolling motor.

This cuts deep :)
At least she didn't post the places on the web.

Very short trips?
My short trips consist of me walking 20' across the lawn and throw a worm in the pond. After all the launch to the river is 2 miles down the road.

Up the river.
Finally the wind died down to a manageable level and I got off my butt and went fishing. Went up the river about 3 miles, stopped and caught 4 bass on 4 casts. Ended up with 8 from the same spot, no size, largest was around 3 lbs. Went up the river another mile and caught another 6 or so. Fished a couple more places for a couple more small fish and decided to go bream fishing for the last 1/2 hour. Caught a 1/2 dozen small bream and went home. Good day, saw a few gators with one I wouldn't tangle with. Went to local lake today for a few hours and caught 6 bass all on worms in the bushes. Again no size.

What’s the best flourocarbon that’s not super expensive?
I've been using Vicious for a number of years and am happy with it on baitcasters. $31-$40 for 500 yds.
-
Gear ratio?
Without counting the gear teeth it looks like 4.7:1.
-
Are you currently using any Temu rods or reels?
My son bought a $4.00 baitcaster that he gave me. Threw it away the 2nd cast.
-
Gear ratio?
Abu Garcia round, ball bearings on each end of the spool, black. Looks like it's less than 5:1. Made in Sweden.

A question and a tip.
I was fishing from the bank yesterday and couldn't break off. I finally wrapped the line around a branch and walked backward. With the boat I wrap around a cleat and move the boat.
