  1. I carry a Frog Toggs poncho in my kayak. It covers my legs also in a downpour.
  2. https://www.outdoorlife.com/fishing/kill-more-largemouth-bass/ Pretty long.
  3. We used to have a trailer on the Manatee between the bridges and fished for them often. When the water gets colder go to the warmest water you can find, the back of inlets and canals usually and throw a swimbait or a saltwater spook. My buddy came down and he was deadly with a spook and outfished me 2 or 3 to 1. I've caught them off my dock in a canal we lived on. Let me know where you are and I'll try to give you some help.
  4. Stopped @ a small lake in AR a few years ago, launched the boat and went fishing. Saw a bunch of fish on the bottom in about 15' and dropped a worm which wasn't touched so I dropped a white 1/2 oz spoon. Sat in one spot and caught fish until my arm wouldn't move. Hybrids up to about 2 lbs and they fought hard. Spoons are one of my most productive lures except for worms, everything eats them. Last week I caught a bunch of small stripers on them. Several years ago a buddy and I caught 9 species of fish in a 30 yd circle all on spoons. I usually use a locally made one, Georgia Blade.
  5. I fish the Rainbow River several times a winter and always catch fish. It's a spring fed river and clear as glass. Long casts with light line, I use 6 lb mono. Most people that fish it regularly fish at night.
  6. Everyone's answer is correct but team9 has it right. I buy EagleClaw worm hooks and the 1/0 and 2/0 of the same number are different thickness. If it's a forged hook all the better, it'll be stronger.
  7. There were a load of 10' sit-in kayaks in my Walmart parking lot for $93.
  8. Headlight polish should get them clear.
  9. And they pull really hard.
  10. I live on aguably the best Alabama Bass lake in the US and catch them everyday I fish. That said I also fish for the GA Bass Slam for the 10 species of black bass in GA and see the results from the introduction of Alabama Bass. They take over and hybridize with native species. There are places where I used to go for, mostly upland species, that all I catch are Alabama Bass. Yes they are great eating.
  11. In the 80s I use to read Western Outdoor News when they were catching all the huge bass in CA lakes. I fished the local, Castaic, Piru and Casitas occasionally being mostly an ocean fisherman. I worked, part time, at a tackle shop in Burbank and some of the customers took me bass fishing including tournaments. I remember catching the big fish, 6 lbs, at one and winning $108.
  12. I have a 300 Bantam 100 if you need it. I think it's a 4.7:1 ratio.
  13. Tie an overhand knot in the first 5 or so feet and see if you can break it easily. If you can strip 20' off and try and break that, if you can replace the whole line. I use line for years but test it first.
  14. It doesn't hurt anything. If you must have the line free strip all the guides off and add more. If it's a casting rod make it an acid wrapped rod and put most of the guides on the bottom.
  15. I leave worm bags in a milk crate under my console and they've been broken into by something several times. Birds, squirrels, racoons?
  16. When I'm in FL I'll fish a stump lake several times during the winter and, even in a tin boat, it's sometimes a ***** getting off. Can't wait to hear the conclusion. Good luck.
  17. Better sharks and alligators to not fishing all year.
  18. You might look into having a custom rod built. There are a plethora of super premium blanks to build with.
  19. Out yesterday afternoon to look for some bass. Went 1/4 mile and my locator lit up with fish. Dropped a spoon and caught a 2.49 Alabama Bass, dropped again and caught a smaller one. Third drop a 11" striper appeared on my spoon and the next one another small bass came up. The next drop the fish had moved on but I was jigging the bottom and the spoon stopped, thought I hooked the bottom when it moved. To make a long, 10 minute story short, I thought I had a big striper then a good catfish but when I brought it up it turned out to be a 5.55 lb carp hooked in the gill plate. Toughest fight since the last time I caught a decent, 5-10 lb striper.
  20. I'm with MN on the DIY thing. If the washers aren't perfectly make it's not a big deal. I've been making my own for since before Penn had carbon drags and they've all worked much better than stock.
  21. Can't have too many boats. It's still over 50 lbs but shorter and more manuverable. When I use my kayak I have a 15' rope with either 1 or 2 lengths of 3/8" chain for an anchor. I run the rope through the front handle with a clam cleat on a gunnel where I can reach to use it. You might have to paint the bottom so the fish won't get spooked by a bright orange boat. Good luck with it.
  22. Original packages thrown in a milk crate under the console. I don't use many colors or sizes so they don't get too mixed up.
  23. Have a good time not a money making endeavor.
  24. I use 5 mm Minimas or SSRs for my running guides. Any smaller, for me, are harder to see and wrap.
