  1. Depends what bait I'm throwing. 6lb for finesse worms and drop shot, 10lb for small swim baits, 12 or 15 for jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and topwater, 65lb for toads and frogs.
  2. Redeye because they live in very scenic places. I've caught several redeyes and the largest was 12".
  3. I'm not fussy as long as it's light. I just weighed my finesse worm outfit and it totaled out to 9 oz. I just bought a Diawa Tatula spinning reel that weighs 6 oz filled with 6 lb mono and the rod is a custom Rainshadow blank.
  4. To remove a tight bearing you might try to cover the whole bearing with a paper tower and use your air compressor in the center. To insert them back in a 1/4" socket set usually have a right size socket. I've polished the gears by removing the handle, putting toothpaste in the gears, chuck the main shaft in a drill and spin it.
  5. The pale one was caught in Lake Lanier, GA and the black one was caught in a black water pond/lake in FL.
  6. 50+ miles off shore in So Cal a boat signaled us for help. Boat wouldn't start. My buddy put me aboard the broken boat and I found the starter didn't work. I took it apart and got it working once and told them not to turn the boat off. We caught some good albacore that day and did a good deed. If asked I'll help with fishing but won't offer.
  7. BTW it's an Alabama Bass.
  8. Fished all afternoon and had only one bite but it was a good one. Lake Lanier. 3.78 lbs
  9. Received my new Tatula spinning reel this morning and in shaking the box the reel wasn't packed in anything. I opened it and there it was reel and unattached handle loose in the box. I called the company where I bought it and was told to put it back in the box and send it back, no questions. Thanks Tackle Warehouse.
  10. I use Corrosion X mixed with grease for gears and 10/30 on everything else except baitcaster spool bearings which get 1 scant drop of hot sauce.
  11. Most of the fish I'm not catching seem to be offshore and it's hard to catch up with them.
  12. My latest is a 6'8" Rainforrest Immortal blank with Minima guides, an Areo seat and Winn grips that I've had around for a while. I wanted to try a longer worm spinning rod with a fast action instead of the extra fast 6'2" I've been using for a few years. After using it for a couple of months I prefer the older extra fast action one. The longer rod casts a lot longer with the same reel.
  13. Terrific catch, congratulations. I've been trying to catch a bass over 8 for 40 years.
  14. The minimum size is 14" for black bass on Lanier.
  15. I have an '88 Classic 50 which is the same engine but have to mix my gas and oil. Runs great idles great and starts immediately if I put it on fast idle. The choke doesn't close all the way so I pump the bulb 7 or 8 times when it's cold. Put it on fast idle and crank. Usually starts right now if I don't flood it by pumping it too much. I find that if I use Seafoam it idles better.
  16. Lakes in GA are all open but bass fishing has been tough for me lately. However the stripers are eating if you can find them. Hint, follow the birds.
  17. Has anyone bought stuff from www.fish-united.com/? Their prices seem too good to be true.
  18. I've built several on the Rainshadow Immortal blanks and they're very sensitive and tough.
  19. Don't armor all your dirt bike seat. Your boat seat will probably be too slippery also.
  20. Years ago I had an electric steer and got used to the slow response then I got a cable steered motor and still use it. Difference between night and day for bass fishing. My other boat has a tiller controlled motor which I tried on the stern, terrible until I put it on the bow. Much better but the cable control allows me to fish all the time with both hands.
  21. A water smoother that eliminates boat wakes and a boat that goes more than 30mph.
  22. I haven't seen his name in a few years. Thanks for the information.
  23. In the mid 50s a buddy and I used to go to the Redondo Harbor to catch bonito. I started with 6 lb line then 4 lb. I could land most of them on the 4 lb then tried 2 lb, all the line was Stren and the reels were Mitchell 300s. The 2 always broke. I have no problem with 4 for bass if it's in clear, no obstructions, water.
  24. Jimbo is one of the top Alabama bass guides on Lanier. BTW there are no spotted bass on Lanier they are all Alabama bass. I don't know if Ryan Coleman is still guiding but before starting Spots Sticker Baits he was the top bass guide on the lake.
  25. Wednesday's skill. Went in the afternoon on an overcast misty day. Threw a worm @ a marker pole and caught 2 Alabama bass, one 2.31 lbs that I invited to dinner. I saw gulls diving so I went there and threw a small white swimbait for the stripers that were there. Not a bite on a striper. I saw marks on the locator and dropped a spoon and caught a big white bass.
