  1. Moved to GA in '99 and fishing licenses were very inexpensive, I think $5. When I turned 65 and applied I received a lifetime fishing and hunting, with deer stamps, for free. The resident freshwater fishing license is $15. I still have to buy FL fresh and salt licenses every year for $94 last year, even though I'm 82 and own property there. Happy to pay it.
  2. I took a trip to Maine three years ago and caught my first northern pike along with many smallmouths and a couple of LM. All with a kayak and a plastic worm.
  3. Diawa Tatula on sale @ Basspro and I had a few gift cards. Bought one a couple of years ago and really liked it so bought another.
  4. My buddy had one in an aquarium for years but didn't take it for walks.
  5. I can't take the cold so 55 is about my lower limit.
  6. I wrote a thread about how I removed one of those after using it for a short time. Replaced it with an aero.
  7. I have a friend that has a youtube fishing channel that's very informative and would like to give the address. It's usually on Lake Lanier in GA. I read the laws but am still not sure. Thanks
  8. While fishing a river in MT in the mid 60s I was camped on the river several miles on a dirt road near the water. Had my ice chest in my station wagon with me sleeping beside it. Something woke me and there was a bear with it's front feet on top of the car looking in the window. I yelled then knocked on the window and the bear got down and still wanted what was in the ice chest. I loaded my .270 which I took along, rolled the window down and hollered again for the bear to leave. It didn't leave and ended up as a rug and on the dinner table. I had a tag. A couple of years ago I backed into hornets nests twice in the year while fishing the river. Got stung a couple of times each time but managed to get away without too much damage.
  9. There's a warning in our fishing regulations not to eat LM over 16" in certain lakes. I'll take home a 15-17" Alabama Bass every couple of weeks out of Lake Lanier. Excellent eating.
  10. When I'm fishing rivers or shallow lakes I'll anchor but in deeper lakes I'll drop a marker. I'll then fish a close by spot and go back to the marker when I think the fish have settled down.
  11. It's a Bartram's Bass. An upland species from N GA and the prettiest bass I've ever caught. They don't get much over 12".
  12. Getting blown into trees with hornets nests.
  13. Fished this morning until noon. Had 4 bites and caught 3 fish 2 Alabamas, 3.46 and 2.33, and a LM 1.56. Caught on worms. Had 2 blowups on a Chug Bug that didn't stick also.
  14. Looks like you found the answer. What's the gear ratio on your reel?
  15. Since I only kayak fish small rivers I usually take one spinning rod with 6 lb mono for finesse worms. Occasionally take a bait caster with 15 lb mono for buzzbaits or topwater baits.
  16. I have an aluminum boat that I launch several times a week all winter in FL. I'll float it off with enough rope to clear the trailer, pull it to shore or ramp, lift the bow to secure the boat on shore, park the truck, lift the boat to float it, push it off and step on and go fishing. Takes less time to do it than write about it. I'm much more likely to get stuck on a rock on the river or stump on the lake than damage it while launching
  17. Years ago our son got another camera and gave me his old one. It was in a dive case and I take it in my kayak. It's a Casio Z57 that can be programmed to take 3 pictures on a timer and has a 3xs non digital telephoto lens + digital. I prop it up and shoot. I've bought several spares on ebay for $20 or so. In my real boat I use my Iphone propped up on the dash. They both take very acceptable pictures.
  18. '87 or '88 Grumman Renegade Merc Classic 50 engine.
  19. Alex from GA posted a topic in Fishing Reports
Had a pretty good day Monday on Lake Lanier. Started out with top water and after some casting practice reverted to my strength, worms. 3.91 LM, Over 2 1/2 Alabamas.
  20. Like soflabasser said there are a bunch of species of bass in GA and I try to catch a Bass Slam each year. I've gone to places where I've caught a species one year and a couple of years later they're hybrids. Alabamas are always the culprit. I fish Lake Lanier several times a week and usually catch 3 or 4 times the amount of Alabama Bass compared to LM when in the old days my friends, who have fished here since the lake was impounded, say they rarely caught anything but LM. Talking about white bass; I lived in CA for most of my life and there was only 1 lake where white bass were stocked and you couldn't put a live one in your livewell. If you wanted to keep one we pulled the gills out. Lake Nacimiento is the lake.
  21. I have tried fluoro on spinning reels and removed it after one trip, too stiff. I use it on bait casters and change it only after getting down to the knot on the mono backing.
  22. I used to have a 9' Keowee sit in that I loved. I only fish smallish rivers though with it. 35lbs and stable. That's not to say I haven't gotten wet a few times. It was stolen and I bought a 10' Pescador SOT and don't like it nearly as much. I also have a 9' SOT and it gets me very wet and I only weigh 145 lbs. I have a Ford Explorer and haven't tried to put it inside, carry it on top while towing our 16' camper.
