  1. In the early part of the year I was in central FL where I usually fished small rivers and did really well. 6-30 bass/day. Largest was 6-11 on a buzzbait. April and May I fished Lake Lanier in N GA where I never was skunked but didn't catch nearly as many as I did in FL. June through September I didn't fish, shoulder surgery. October til now I did fairly well in Lanier with many over 3 lb Alabama bass. Going to FL again soon.
  2. It's been 25 years since I was there but Lake Nacimiento had/has smallmouth.
  3. A glass boat needs the bottom pressure washed at least twice a year if left in the water in N GA. I've left my tin boat in the water for a couple of months and haven't checked the bottom yet. I'll let you know in a week or two, we're going to FL for the winter and it'll be on the trailer.
  4. After several years of pain and steroid shots the shots didn't work anymore so I had a complete shoulder replacement June 3rd. It took 3 months until I could fish for a short time and 5 months later with lots of therapy I can throw almost as well as I could before but not for as long a time. I'm also over 80 so it takes longer for everything. Get it done as soon as you can. Good luck.
  5. I'm an old person too, 81, and the aero grips are more comfortable in my hand as is the palm swell on casting rods. I do have normal size hands with no problems with them.
  6. Bottom contact baits require the most sensitive rods. Worms and jigs.
  7. I met my buddy on the river standing and fishing in a class 1 rapid over 10 years ago. He fishes out of a Caper and can stand in my 10' Pescador that I have trouble sitting in. I'm over 80 and he's in his 40s.
  8. I'm one of the odd ones that use shorter rods. Most of my bass rods are 6'6" with my finesse worm rods, 6'2" spinning and 6' casting. I find they're more accurate. I do have several 7'+ rods for slinging frogs, toads and bucktails a long ways. Borrow a longer rod and try it before you spend the $.
  9. In GA if you own both sides of the river/creek the bottom is private property. I've been yelled @ twice for kayaking through a property. One time I was with a DNR group that was tagging fish.
  10. To MickD. Rainshadow MMWS62MXF blank. Minima guides, cork split grip, no fore gri[p. I use it with 6# mono and 1/16th oz weight for Texas rigging in less than 12' of water.
  11. It might be #40 the pinion bearing. Take the rotor off and check from there.
  12. Pflueger President. I have a couple that I use several times a week. Solid with a good drag.
  13. When I fish from a kayak it's almost always on moving water and I use a 5'6" spinning rod for worm fishing. I'm always casting under overhanging vegetation. 11-10-2021 N GA.
  14. My buddy and I used to fish a pond and catch 50 or more bass less than 12" until one time my buddy caught a huge fish, probably 8 or 9 lbs. We fished the pond a few more times for a couple of years with all small fish caught until he caught, what we think was the same big bass, now way over 10 in the same place he caught it last time. What does that tell you?
  15. Usually, IMO, you can buy a decent rod for less than building one costs. It's the custom details that you build that sets it apart. Personally I build for minimum weight because I'm a weak old man. I have some rods that weigh under 3 oz that I use for bass fishing.
  16. Hope it works OK. I'm with Jigman about the pin. If you can drill it with it together I'd still do it and glue a pin in it.
  17. I have a new in the box Humminbird kayak fish finder with GPS for $150 + shipping if you're interested. It has a card slot for maps.
  18. I filet as the original poster does and I also have a 12v knife in my boat to filet fish @ the dock.
  19. I've been using a bbq rotesserie for 40+ years and it works fine. It's 3 RPM.
  20. After a month I'm casting lots better and can use my good arm. Here are a few pictures from this week. All on Lake Lanier, GA.
  21. 5 christmas trees tied together at the bottom with enough blocks to sink them, 2 or 3, with a 2 liter bottle tied to the top makes a great brush pile. Sink in 20-30'. This won't work in FL.
  22. I fished in the rain yesterday afternoon when we weren't expecting rain. They weren't exactly jumping in the boat but the bite was OK.
  23. reel ess, Filets. Alabama Bass are, IMO, lots tastier than LM. We ate a crappie 2 weeks ago and the bass was much better.
