  1. I've fished with several really good bass fisherman over the years, including several pros, but the person I mostly fish with now is by far the best. And he's 35 years younger than me.
  2. Fishing with better fishermen. Buying a kayak and fishing where most people can't fish.
  3. All summer I fish small rivers for the GA bass slam and use a 5 1/2' or 6' rod with usually 6 lb mono. I fish out of a kayak and have to get under bushes and trees.
  4. I've always bought an inexpensive set of 6 ga jumper cables plus a breaker. Soldered and covered with shrink tubing and silicone. Cut and splice close to the head.
  5. My buddy got a new boat and took the Lakemaster cards out of his old one. He had a gen 2 and a gen 3 cards in his units. On his new boat he has 2 gen 3 units and only the gen 3 card works in both units. Is this right; is the gen 2 card compatible with only gen 2 units?
  6. They've been stocking for a few years and there are fish to be caught if you can find them. Look through FCP fishing, on youtube. He catches them.
  7. I haven't shortened but put on a longer shaft on a MinnKota motor controlled one. Disconnect all the wires in the head, cut the shaft, without cutting the wires, slip the shaft off the wires, drill another hole where you need it and put it back together. Shouldn't be very hard. Take pictures of the connections in the head before starting.
  8. Sounds like it'll suit you just fine, congratulations.
  9. Even lawn mower batteries are over 6" with most deep cycle batteries being a bit over 9" high.
  10. I got the last rig we found several years ago, a BassPro Extreme rod and Shimano reel. I had to put a new handle on the rod and am still using it for my buzzbait rod. Caught my PB bass on it a couple of years ago, 6-11.
  11. My partner hooked what he said was fishing line yesterday and I pulled the boat to it and retrieved a rod, reel and a spinner bait. The reel was a Lews Classic Pro and the rod was a Dobyns 7'2" MH. I cleaned, degreased and relubed the spool bearings and tried it out on another rod. For a $60 reel I was impressed; it's smooth and casts really good. I just wonder how it'll last. I guess I'll ask him next year. The rod felt pretty light for a MH to me.
  12. I catch spotted bass/Alabamas several times a week and those are LM. Again pictures with the mouth closed are the best way to tell along with the tongue patch or lack of.
  13. I fish a lot of rivers in central FL all winter and the bass there are a lot tougher than in the lakes. A couple of days ago I caught an Alabama bass that I thought was over 3 but I weighed it @ 1.87. It was a really mean fish.
  14. Threw a spinnerbait in a dock yesterday and thought I'd caught the lake record, not. 4.20 lb.
  15. Thank you everyone. I just ordered an Okuma Ceymar. BTW I bought a Piscifun Carbon baitcaster a few months ago and like it. It's very light, smooth and casts good.
  16. Least favorite is building the rod. Most favorite is fishing with it.
  17. I cut a 6' 2" blank to 5 1/2' with good results. It has about the same action of the 6' 2" one, maybe a little stiffer. I use it for small river fishing to throw under trees. Bigger open rivers and lakes I use the full size rod. No hacksaw only a dremel cutting wheel.
  18. Our daughter is in Destin, FL and sent me a picture of a boat with 5 425hp engines on the back. I'd post the picture but it's in an heic format and I don't know what to do with it.
  19. I always wear an inflatable PFD and just clip it to the strap.
  20. It's mostly my feet. When it's too hot to walk on the boat without shoes I wear sandals.
  21. In the 70s I use to ride my dirt bike up to the high country in Kennedy Meadows to go golden trout fishing and carried an old pair of gym shoes, with indoor/outdoor carpet glued to the soles, in my fly vest. I used contact cement and they held fairly well. I stuck them in the oven with the pilot light on over night to dry.
