I will say without fishing it yet I’m pleased with the light weight and the action at least in hand and I’m hoping to get it out this week for a bit.

So anyone who’s following the latest sales thread knows a handful of us bought Abu Garcia Veritas TE rods. Here’s mine paired up with the reel of choice as of now.

That’s awesome! I will agree that my rod was well packaged as well and I contend that it came straight from Abu Garcia that way. I also didn’t realize this but it turns out I have a relatively large Sierra not far from me and after talking to the store manager he informed me during the fishing “season” the store carries quite a bit of fishing related stuff including a good variety of rods. Im looking forward to next season already and were not even done with this season 😬 @F14A-B Did you or @KP Duty receive your rods yet?

@Bazoo Although I don’t own one and I’m no authority on Lews products I believe it’s the same reel as the LFS. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in but if that’s the case I personally don’t think the upcharge is worth it for a different paint color.

@PhishLI & @KP Duty My Abu rod arrived from Sierra via Fed Ex this morning and to be honest I was a bit concerned as the cardboard tube was pretty damaged. I was very happy after I opened the tube and realized that although probably packed directly from Abu Garcia to Sierra the rod itself is in perfect shape and was well protected inside the tube. I hope you both along with anyone else who took advantage of this deal receive your rods in the same condition minus the broken tube.

I have the SLX 71 MGL and use it on a 7’-0” medium powered rod mainly throwing 1/8 ounce mini max bladed jig and have zero issues with the distance also from the shore. Mine is spooled with 10 pound Suffix Advance Monofilament. I’ve also used both a Daiwa Tatula 80 spooled with 10 pound Seaguar Basix with a 1/4 ounce square bill and zero issues also. I also have a Alphas 800 SV TW and I don’t think you’ll have any issues with any of the reels you mentioned.

I can’t say how it’s handled now but the rod I purchased as I said a handful of years ago was in a heavy tube and well protected inside as well. I’m sure hoping they haven’t changed that policy.

Just an FYI on the above Abu Garcia Veritas TE rods if you open KP Duty’s link and keep scrolling down you’ll see they are offering a 7’-2” medium powered casting rod along with a 7’-6” I believe medium powered spinning rod for the same clearance price also. I’m dang tempted to pick up all 3 at this price.

@Mike L I’m not sure if you’re watching the Bears game but the deficiencies on the offensive line along with the defensive secondary is absolutely glaring along with Ryan Poles inefficiency at knowing how to draft in my opinion are adding up to another long lost season and hopefully Ryan Poles firing before the seasons end. I know I’m being a Debbie Downer but much like the rest of my fellow Bears fans I’m sick of my team looking like the brown bag Cleveland Browns of old🤬

That’s a sweet deal on that Veritas. I’ve purchased a rod from Sierra a handful of years ago and I was surprised how well they packaged it.

Putting the reel on the rods will let you feel the balance of the combo and therefore hopefully help you decide. As you pointed out the length maybe and probably is taken from the butt end.

@Bazoo I’ve had zero issues with the hook keeper and I actually love both the med light and the medium. I also have the 7’-3” heavy but I don’t throw large lures currently. Interesting enough I received the rods from a current member on here who didn’t enjoy them and I still can’t thank him enough. Also I edited the above post as I believe the in line spinner is an 1/8th ounce lure😬 and I don’t want to steer you wrong.
