  1. I truly realize what you’re saying and I’ve really had a hard time not just pulling the trigger on the Sierra but I’m truly wanting to wait until spring where I’m pretty sure I can catch a sale even if it’s not as good and also hopefully compare the St Croix to the Dobyns. Again I really appreciate your insight.
  2. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in saying I’ve never fished with a Mojo but knowing how well liked and to a lesser degree still is liked I feel pretty confident in the series. But what I was more after and would still love to hear is what @NorthernBasser added in experience with the rods in question although I really do appreciate all the responses that have been coming in and I’m hoping still will as I’m totally intrigued by any and all rod manufacturers and if I ever won the lottery I’d own a tackle shop just so I could try every rod and reel that’s available today. I should add although I’m focused on the Dobyns and St Croix rods if anyone uses any other rods similar in power and actions to the 2 I’ve referenced I’d love to read the responses. TIA
  3. I’m going to assume it’s made in their Mexico factory and it’s made with their scIII Carbon blank. I’m planning on an 8speed reel with 30-40 pound braid for mainly top water type lures such as buzz baits solid body toad type lures and possibly chug bug/ jitterbugs.
  4. @NorthernBasser Woul you say your Sierra is a true fast or more of a moderate fast? I know Dobyns run a 1/2 to a full power under their ratings but I’ve read and have seen some videos saying it’s a bit slower in action also. Unfortunately where I shop Dobyns rods aren’t readily available to feel in hand and along with currently having a true fast action medium heavy 2 of my favorite rods are more moderate fast with one being an Okuma TCS medium plus if you have ever handled that rod.
  5. So I wasn’t sure whether I should add on to other threads or not but I decided to start this one instead. So I’m interested to hear from anyone who has purchased or even has handled the new St Croix Black Bass series and or has any experience with them. For some context I’m in Illinois and my fishing season is pretty much done as is most of my Northern half of the country fellow anglers so I’m not in any hurry to purchase any new rods but I’m interested in getting a chance to handle this lineup but probably won’t get the chance until my local fishing show in February. I’m planning on pairing a 8 speed casting reel to a 7’-0ā€ medium heavy moderate fast or possibly a 7’-1ā€ fast and I’m also interested in handling a Dobyns Sierra 734 which I believe should be pretty close in feel but this is why I’m asking for anyone’s experience. Lastly I’m looking to spool the reel with 30/40 pound braid to be used for buzz baits, toads and the like.
  6. Good evening everyone. So I’m going to start by saying I’m not at all a whiskey/scotch drinker but I’m asking for some guidance on a bottle I purchased for my dad for Christmas. So for some context my dad is in his 80’s and I’m not sure how great his taste buds are but he likes single malt scotch so I picked up a gift set of Glenmorangie which consists of a 750 ml bottle of 10 year and 2 sample sized bottles of 12 and 14 year bottles and I’m hoping those of you that are more informed than me can share if you know anything about the flavor profile so I can share with my dad. I purchased the gift set at Binny’s which if anyone is from Illinois will understand and the young lady who helped me pick this out was very informative but also a salesperson so again this is why I’m looking for any information you guys are willing to share. I’ll close this out by saying I realize it’s not a very pricey bottle but I’m hoping it pours at or hopefully above its price point. Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who takes the time to reply.
  7. As a lifelong Chicago Bears fan at 55 years of age I can honestly say I am in absolute meltdown mode currently watching this game which I just turned off…..I’m at a complete loss as to HOW this team can keep 🤬this team up from top to bottom and I’m seriously ready to call it quits 😔
  8. For me I like the old adage ā€œvariety is the spice of lifeā€ so I say mix it up, and if you don’t like what you buy sell off what you don’t like during your off time and regroup then.
  9. For me most of my bait cast reels are spooled with either 10 pound big game or 10 pound suffix advance monofilament. As far as my smaller spinning reels I’m all over the map with one of my favorite monofilament being 4 pound Kast King monofilament because I can find it pretty cheap on Amazon and my wife usually finds some extra % off coupons before purchasing. In the past I pretty much only used McCoy mean green monofilament and enjoyed that also.
  10. Although I don’t own a whole lot of bait cast reels in general I definitely prefer the Daiwa’s for their braking systems and what I feel is their simplicity in adjusting their braking systems. With that said in context to this thread my first Shimano reel was an SLX first generation and it’s one of the only reels I regret selling also because what I feel was a simple braking system along with very comfortable ergonomics. Since then I’ve purchased a SLX MGL 71 and a used Curado 151 MGL and I really enjoy them both. Keeping in the context of this thread for me personally there is something about the Daiwa’s that just fit my medium sized hands with sausage size fingers as my wife would describe them including the above quoted ā€œpictureā€ reel along with it’s cousin the Arachnid that I own both of and love them both. For me the only reel that although I had zero problems with the performance but just didn’t find comfortable was a BPS Carbonlite 2.0 the white & gold version and I’ve handled the ā€œnewā€ black version and feel the same about the ergonomics of both. With that said I believe and I’m sure someone on here can confirm or disprove that the BPS reel in reference is a Lews LFS frame, I will say and again I’m sure someone can correct me if I’m wrong I’ve handled the last generation Lews Carbon Fire reel which I believe is an SLP frame and I really like the feel of that enough that if I find a good enough to me deal I’d like to purchase one of the SLP framed reels and I’m definitely keeping my eye on DSG which seems to always have some kind of deal that I could try out the Carbon Fire reel and upgrade if I find I like the ergonomics.
  11. If the price is really reasonable why not buy it to try out and if you decide it’s not for you sell it for what you paid for it. You can probably sell it on the flea market section on here.
  12. I’ve never been charged a conversion fee when I order through Japan Lure Shop, as was pointed out to me on this site you can get the prices in US currency by utilizing their menu button on their website also. 24 SLX is $106.00 currently on JLS, and although it says 24 SLX it’s the SLX MGL, when I purchased mine from them it was labeled the same way although I bought the 2019 version. Which I paid $13.00 for shipping.
  13. The site is Japan Lure Shop.
  14. @bishoptf here’s a screenshot from Japan Lure Shop it says 24 SLX but it’s def the SLX MGL as I purchased one from them myself. The shipping was definitely no more than 15.00 to Illinois and they included a baby pop x megabass lure that they do on every reel order in fact I received a chatterbait jackhammer when I purchased my Daiwa Tatula 80 from them.
  15. @bishoptf I like and have purchased reels from Japan Lure Shop
  16. Let’s go Bengals
  17. I turn into a blubbering idiot every time I first hear ā€œlittle drummer boyā€ especially by Bob Seger but I’ll listen to any version I can find with a close second being David Bowie & Bing Crosby. I also play Trans Siberian Orchestra in my work truck at this point.
  18. Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing. That’s an awesome video šŸ‘šŸ» Thanks for sharing.
  19. @BigSkyBassin That is really sharp looking and thank you for sharing the interior picture šŸ‘šŸ» If I may ask where is the sunrise/sunset photo taken from?
  20. I remember watching Midwest Outdoors on the tv and seeing Spence Petros fishing out of them in Minnesota and thinking one day. Also I agree with @Swamp Girl that’s a good looking boat but you really need to share some interior shots as well.
  21. My older brother used his to burn off warts 😬
  22. This is my second Dream Super Bowl matchup with my stumbling Bears looking like it’s 1985 again being first……and then reality kicks me in the butt and I think this is going to be fun to watch.
  23. Well although I don’t have a problem with ā€œcarbonā€ framed reels if they’re built right I purchased a 1000 Stradic FL when they were closing them out for both panfish and small pond bass and I couldn’t be happier. As far as the weight for me I like the solid feel as it just feels right, as many people have pointed out the stem on the Vanford is different so there’s that plus the price difference buys me the line to spool it plus a lure or 2 and lastly different strokes for different folks šŸ‘šŸ»
