Jeff thanks. I used an old hot plate out in the garage and made up some. It worked like a charm. Now if the bass like them I'm in business.

I just got a bunch of stuff from a friend. In one of the boxes was a bunch of Twin Ts skirts. I am wanting to put some on tubes for jig insert fishing but not having any luck. Trig will be easy just slide up the line. I have tried a candle flame and super glue and neither worked. Any ideas?
  3. My plastics molds are all home made. I make them from Bondo. I don't want to get rid of any of them as of right now. One way is to buy a blank mold from Do-It and have a machinist make what you want. It can be very pricey though.
  4. A friend of mine kept a Lowe Jon going for 25 years with a couple of tubes of JB Weld. ;D
  5. A lot depends on how your van is set up. My wife had a Ford Windstar and used it to pull her 19' deck boat all over our area for several years. She also used it to pull my 21' bass boat on trips from MO to Mississippi and Texas. She had no problems but both boat trailers had trailer brakes which kept stopping from being a big issue. If you pull very far you need a tranny cooler and don't use the highest gear (shift it down one).
  6. If you heat the hook and cavity with a torch it might pour lead. I have to do that with one spinnerbait mold.
  7. Maybe so Maybe not. I have been making baits longer than most of you guys have been alive. I have WAAAY more than the law allows. I had to give away 10 dz of my jigs to make room for some of his. It's just that new gallon of plastisol going to waste.
  8. Yes. I've always run Premium through it. I was told to never run anything over 87 in my Opti. It even states in the manual to run 87. I am not saying this is your problem but it is several $ difference in fuel bills.
  9. A friend of mine has quit bass fishing and brought me some stuff yesterday: 50 pks of Yamamoto grubs single, double, hula, and bags of twin Ts, at least 500 tubes in many sizes and colors along with a couple of hundred of the jigs like he used to tie for Stacey. All this is going to put my molds up for a while.
  10. I noticed you mentioned premium gasoline. Have you always run premium instead of 87 octane?
  11. You might try places like Janns, Stamina or Barlows.
  12. The football is better in rocks than the arke. I have found that the banana is better than the football.
  13. Have you changed the load? My boat is very sensative to weight toward the front.
  14. I fish Power Pro hi vis yellow so I can see it. I fish clear water so I use a leader. My leader is fluro tied with the Alberto knot. 6 of us did a little experiment one day. 4 used mono and another guy and I used braid with no leader. We all fished in the same area and were fishing shallow. My butt is still slick from the waxing it got. So now I use a leader with braid unless I am fishing deeper than 30'.
  15. My recommendation is the Gloomis 844 or 843 c rods. I have both and find the 843 to be more versatile than the 844. The 844 is very good for 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and 1/2 oz and up jigs. The 843 handles 1/2 decently but goes down to and including 1/4 oz just fine.
  16. No the ones for feathered hooks are called Saddle Hackle and they come from a chicken. You can get them on ebay, staminainc.com, or anywhere that sells fly tying supplies. I recomend getting "Strung Saddle Hackle" as opposed to loose saddle hackle. THe strung ones are more consistent and not as messy as the loose ones. LIB you can learn something every day.

Jigs Jigs Jigs I hate crank baits.
  18. I tie the San Diego Jam and can do it in 10-12 seconds with gloves on. It takes me a lot longer to tie a palomar.
  19. My home owners won't do that kind of coverage. The stuff in the garage or house is covered under the home owners. My stuff in the boat is covered as long as the boat boxes are locked. It is funny that my depth finders are not covered in locked boxes but are covered if left on the boat (makes no sense to me). I spread all my stuff out and took digital pics and put them in the puter.
  20. Yes I have. Both of my back springs broke. I called the mfg and they sent all new springs and paid the local shop $185 to put them on. I was only out the phone call. :) :)
  21. Same answer different question: What is the difference between a bicycle and a Mercedes?
  22. I have been fishing jigging spoons for many many years. The Hopkins shorty 75 is the best one I have ever used but now that I have a mold I make my own Babbit spoons. They don't cost much to break off.
  23. I used to run an alum with about the same weight and did it with batteries with 160 reserve amps. Your 178s should do fine. I am running 185s with a 20 glass boat and doing well.
  24. The feathers are called maribou and are actually from turkeys. Many tackle shops carry them as well as places like Janns, Stamina, Barlows, and Ztackle. All you would have to do to dress the hooks is wrap several layers of some type of thread around the hook and maribou then tie it off and cover the thread with clear fingernail polish or super glue.
  25. Lots of different brands will work for you. Get the highest reserve amps you can find, at least 185.
