Pro Gear Vs Our Gear
There is no cheaper jerk, than I. However Megabass jerks bring on massive salivation, serious I'm like a dog eye balling a meaty bone.

I'm never bed fishing again
Good on you Martin, preserving the fishery that gives us so much is paramount in my opinion. I'm not so stuck up about this that I think bed fishing should be completely avoided, but returning the fish unharmed so they can finish the job of procreation is important I believe. Rant follows: I had a couple befriend me a couple of months ago, they had once reported that they had kept a SMB that was full of eggs. So I was reluctant to stop when they flagged me down to see their latest catch a 7lb LMB that was also full of eggs. When asked what I thought of their catch, I said I thought it was a F-ing shame that the fish wasn't where it belonged. In the water. All so they could mount a 7lb fish. I haven't heard from these people since, Looking back I wish I had waited and brought it up with a little less emotion. I missed an opportunity to be a positive influence.

Disappointed, but.
Happy to report that 10lb powerpro has made a difference. Even with a pretty good wind I am getting much better distance. New problem line is so fine I cant see it, lol. Gonna have to get some Hi-vis. I think the mono I was using was a little to old, stuff had the exact characteristics of a slinky.

saltwater bass fishing anyone?
Back in the late 80's early 90's I would slay spotties in the lagoons in Carlsbad, scrounger with a hot pink curly tail couldn't be beat.

Disappointed, but.
Jig head is 1/16 sorry for confusion, So total bait weight is just under 1/4. I don't see very well, had to break out a magnifying glass to see weight print on package.

Disappointed, but.
Please stop lol, I'm already considering getting a longer rod and another of the same reel. Truth be told IMO, this rig fishes way above the 90.00 I spent on it.

Mean Mouth Bass
Cool first post! Haven't even heard of mean mouth.

Disappointed, but.
Braid it is, #4 mono is gonna be tough in the cover that is around. Fished the rod again today and I have to say for 35 bucks it fishes great other than distance that is. I don't remember where I read that spinning gear and skipping don't mix, but that is just flat out not the case. I was floating wacky rigged worms under bridges since skipping with my longer casting rods was only getting me half way to where I wanted to be, this little thing skips them the 30' to 35' easily.

Disappointed, but.
I bought my first "sissy" setup. A Diawa Legalis LT 2500, paired with a Quantum qx36s661ml, 6ft 6in Medium Light-Fast 4-8lb 1/16-3/8oz, Trilene XL #6. The reel is butter smooth and just what I was hoping for, the rod not so much I think. My problem is casting distance, I was really hoping for a wow when casting 1/5th ned rigged baits(Z Man Finesse T.R.D). I'm getting maybe 50' when my targets are about 60', is this a unreasonable expectation? It just feels off considering that I can get this distance with my baitcasting setup when using 1/4 ned heads(med/fast 7" tat 100). The good, I can now cast under low bridges much easier and a lot more accurately and the rig skips great. But I bought this to get my light baits across a canal to the other bank allowing me to fish 100% of the water in front of me. What can I do to get the distance I need? Longer rod? Would light braid be better than the mono I'm currently using, I'm thinking yes but am unsure as I have little experience with spinning gear?

Help with line
I say start with out and see how it goes, I don't use a leader with braid. Catch my fair share of fish on anything from wacky rigged worms/ned to 3oz swimbaits. I also don't use anything lighter than #50.

Fishing tools?
Nope, .45 loaded with snake shot. I'm lucky, I fish usually within twenty feet of my truck. pliers HD folding razor knife Magnet, to pick up nails from camp fires. Water, lots and lots of water, 101 here today. Keep benadryl on hand in case dog is bitten by snake. Machete and shovel to open up spots on bank. Trash bags to pick up found trash.

Grip for pliers handle
I dont know if this will work for your pliers, but I used to wrap mason line around the handle of my framing hammer and spray with polyurethane. This carried over to my pliers, really helps with grip.

How many carry while out fishing in the boat.
So happy to be out of ca, think I'll strap up and go catch some AZ bass on any d**n stretch of water I see fit to fish.

- Fooled by lure/hook snag
Its the roiling current that gets me the most, pulling a bait from slack water, I feel the weight of the current and then a stronger undertow(for lack of a better word) will get me swinging.- Quarantine
- Go Barbless - Please. You'll love it.
I was just going to say something along these lines. And what of foul hooked smallies, many of the smallmouth that I catch are foul hooked. I would think that I would lose more of them without a barbed hook. - Fooled by lure/hook snag
