Has Anyone else not caught their first 2020 bass yet?
Is Minnesota different? I mean, bass season isn't "in" here but that doesn't mean you can't fish for them...

Why having lockjaws in April/May?
It isn't just the swing in water temps but the amount of precipitation that has been dumped messing with the water clarity and the stability of the temperatures. Overall it has been a rough spring but they are still feeding - you just have to hit it at the right time of day.

Buying and reselling fishing gear
What? A guy promoted this? I have a few reels for sale at a deep discount! Lol

Knot in my line...
Yeah, it gets tighter and if you pull it hard enough it will pop right out...sometimes it will break the line. It's a gamble but nothing you can do about it...

Knot in my line...
A wind knot... a lot of times you can just pull those loose by pulling on both sides of the knot in opposite directions.

I ran it over and chopped it up pretty good. The only thing salvageable was the reel handle and knobs which went unscathed... My grass was a little long on the side of the garage and I forgot I had put the rod down... pretty sure I ran it over a few times before I noticed the orange pieces. Sigh.

Reels Depreciating in value
I am trying. Nobody wants them. Again - I wouldnt sell them if they were serviceable for me. They aren't my cup of tea and I am more upset of the hype behind these brands. I don't care if it's a top of the line reel or a bargain end one - it should perform as the name suggests. A person would be far off buying a shishamano, piscifun or similar reel over these "name branded" doyos IMO. For the 500 dollars I spent on 4 reels I don't want i could have a Steez. 4 reels that are less than 3 years old I can barely give away... to me that says something about the brand.

20 lb vs. 30 lb Braid for Baitcaster
I never get digging unless I have a deep spool but in those cases I run a backing. I use 15# and 20# braid and bomb casts on my reels.

The super duty wide spool retails for 200. One of the few reels I have that I paid retail for out of a brick and mortar store.

Help me understand ball bearings in reels
I pulled up the slx schematic and circled the bearings in red, the roller bearing in orange and circled bushings and areas where bearings could be added in blue.

Help me understand ball bearings in reels
More is not always better. Some companies put 2 bearings in each reel handle which adds 4 bearings to the reel with no performance upgrade from properly fitted bushings. The ones that matter the most and where Shimano will have quality bearings is the spool shaft and the drive train which is essential when a load(fish) is on the reel. The others are more for smoothness but a good bushing is still better than an average bearing. Generally a spool shaft will have 2 in a 200 and smaller sized reel. The drive train will add 2 more with the +1 being the roller bearing with the infinite anti reverse. Where additional bearings can be added are the worm gear(2) and the reel knobs(4).

Laser MG, Laser Pro, Super Duty Wide Spool. I had a Mach Crush but that one suffered a lawn mower accident. To be fair, the laser mg was on the cheaper side - 70 but it is the most finicky reel I have ever used. In comparison I have a Daiwa Laguna that is cheap but still fantastic for what I paid - 50 bucks. The Super Duty wide spool is nowhere near as good for me as my similarly priced Daiwa Lexa's. Maybe it's just a preference or style thing but none of the Lews have worked out for me.

Reels Depreciating in value
I never cared until I got these crappy Lews reels and a few Abus. I believed all the hype I read when I needed to replace a bunch of my reels that were stolen... I didn't care for them - Now, no one wants them.

Out of line ?
Social media has really changed things. I see a lot of guys filming on YouTube and local guys will recognize the place, comment where it is and then the place gets blown up. Its kind of sad that you have to guard so many places nowadays

The only offers I have received on FB marketplace were for 125 and 150... I will just throw them in a box in the attic for that price

Reels Depreciating in value
I realized they were done pretty much after spooling them up... I have never sold any if my reels before - had a few crap out over the years and had a bunch stolen. But I learned not to buy Lews or Abu reels ever again.

Reels Depreciating in value
It's become pretty obvious to me that Abu, Lews and other Doyo reels just don't hold their value. I always heard good things about them so tried a few out here and there and was never impressed. Even lightly used they don't seem to get 50% of their value within a few years where as Daiwa and Shimano hold up pretty well. I regret buying the ones I did and am surprised people still tout them as being good. I will probably be stuck with the ones I have for a while but are they as popular as they are just because of the marketing? It seems, to me, Abu lives off a legacy that has long died out. What are your thoughts?

Marketing/Hype vs Science/Common Sense
I have never had a reel lock up on me because of the gear ratio.
