  1. My friend has a 2017 SC LTB 71MHXF POWER SWIM spinning rod that he wants to sell. It seemed quite "heavy" to me compared to my Avid MH casting rods. Do any of you guys have this rod and if so do you like it?
  2. My beef isn't necessarily with Daiwa as I know they make great products it just with this reel (check the internet) better R&D could have prevented this. My cheaper REVOS has been OUTSTANDING!
  3. I use an O ring so that I can catch several fish potentially before loosing or breaking the worm. what size hook do you guys like for wacky style. I've been using a 3/0 EMG. I know it's big but I've had issues with the bass swallowing smaller hooks.
  4. Thanks guys for all the replies! Randy
  5. Yes I'm using real GY's and Kalin's. I have noticed the GY's aren't as durable as the Kalin's or Gulps.
  6. What I'm getting at is does multiple uses on the same senko/tube worm loose it's effectiveness? I've noticed that sometimes when I loose a worm that I've used multiple times and put a fresh one on that I get more bites. I'm using Gary Yamamoto's and Kalin's they both have garlic/salt or something infused in them and on them. I'm assuming that that scent wears off after multiple uses. Thoughts/experiences???
  7. Along the same lines do you think a hooked fish scares others away from the area? It seems (when bank fishing) that if I catch a fish and then release it that I will not catch anymore at that same spot.
  8. I didn't care for the Fuego. I had line lay issues and returned it. If you have $ 400.00 to spend I'd purchase 2 SC Mojo Bass in whatever action/length you like and 2 Shimano Nasci's in 2500 size
  9. Steveo, I'm pretty much a SC fanboy but appreciate your honesty. I primarily fish with SC's upper end LE rods but earlier this year I bought a new Mojo Bass 6'8" "Wacky Style" rod and have been super impressed with it for the cost!!!
  10. Kind of a long story but I grew up using low end rods and reels. I had never heard of most of the rods/reels that are used today. Twenty years ago I visited a friends cabin in St. Germain, WI and forgot my fishing rod. My friend was a huge St. Croix fan (especially the Avis series) and Shimano Stradic's. I borrowed one of his combo's and was blown away at how much smoother the reel was and how much more sensitive the rod was. I became a convert after that. Not knocking any other brands just have been happy with Shimano and St. Croix.
  11. I've used a number of different rods over the 40+ years of fishing but for the last 20 years I've used St. Croix almost exclusively. This may be partly due to the fact that I visit their factory at least once a year and in my region (N. IL) they are highly favored. I've had G Loomis but never a Dobyns which I know some guys on here really like.
  12. I agree with the other posters. Put that Stradic in the Mojo!
  13. I have a St. Croix Mojo Bass with a Daiwa Revos reel that I think is lucky. For some unexplained reason I catch more bass with it than my much more expensive Legend Xtreme with a Stradic Ci4+ reel.
  14. Not to make this a Ford vs Chevy debate but I've never had to add washers/shims to any of my Shimano's.
  15. I've been suffering from the same illness in the last six months. I have bought 2 St. Croix Legend Elites, 2 Legend Extreme's, 2 Legend Tournament (one bass and the other walleye from a friends widow) 4 Shimano Stradic's Ci4+'s, line, plastics etc... I told myself the other day it's time to stop.
  16. Thanks guys for all the comments. I returned the reel and got my money back. IMO you shouldn't have to be adding shims/washers to a $ 100.00 reel. I purchased the reel at Gander Outdoors and the fishing manager said they have had several Fuego's returned because of the "line lay" issue. Anyway I bought a Shimano and hope for better luck.
  17. I recently purchased a Fuego 2500 LT spinning reel, spooled it 15 lb. power pro and went fishing. After the second or third cast it threw a huge wad of line out. I took the time to cut the line restart the day and after a few more casts the same thing. I thought maybe it didn't like that line so I respooled it with Suffix 832 and the same thing. I searched the net and noticed many other people having the same issue. Seems Daiwa is aware of this issue "uneven line lay" and can supply some washers for you to install to correct this problem. Have any of you guys had this issue? I have a cheaper REVOS 2500 and have been VERY happy with it.
  18. I live near Rockford, IL but grew up in Pekin, IL
  19. About 16 years ago my best friend and I were walleye fishing in N. Wis. and dragging jig and minnows on the bottom of the lake. All of a sudden he yells "there's one" and pulls and up comes a vintage '50's or early '60's rod and reel. Surprisingly the reel still worked. It was some old baitcaster with braid line. The rod had seen better days.
  20. Catch a bass over 5 lbs, a walleye over 30", and a musky over 50".
  21. I’m still regularly using my Shimano Stradic FG 2000 from around 2000.
  22. Yep me too. Used to love watching his show back in the late '70's.
  23. Like others have said. Many of our hobbies have to take a back to seat to life at certain times. In my '30's I really got into trap shooting and had several work friends that were just getting into it also. After 3-5 years most of the guys had switched companies been fired etc... so I didn't have any friends to shoot with. I also really enjoyed turkey hunting and archery deer hunting. Did a lot of that in my 30's and 40's but now at 55 not so much.
  24. I have an Avid X and several original Avids. For the $$ IMO Avids are where SC rods start to shine!
