  1. I'm not real advanced when it comes to that. I want something I can use for multiple type baits such as bucktails, senkos, top water , etc..
  2. @FishTank, SM & LM bass in lakes and ponds.
  3. @FishTank, I know it's a hard thing to describe but how much less sensitive is it than a NRX? From my experience once you get top a certain price range the ROI gets very slim.
  4. @Fishingmickey, I would be using the rod on inland lakes/ponds for SM and LM.
  5. I'm wanting to buy a new casting rod to pair with my JDM Metanium XG. I'm looking at either the SC Legend X (68MHF, 71MHXF, or 70MF) or the Legend Elite in basically the same length, powers, and actions. I believe the only difference between these two rods are that one is split grip and the other isn't (please correct me if I'm wrong about this). What rod length, power and action would be the best "all-around" casting rod for bass?
  6. I have never been disappointed with either Daiwa or Shimano. Saying that most of my reels are Shimano primarily Stradic, Stradic Ci4+, or Vanfords.
  7. I've been using SC rods for over 20 years and have only broken a few but their CS has always been excellent. I know it's not convenient for most folks but if you can visit their shop and deal with them face to face I think that helps.
  8. Thanks to everyone for their replies. My Wife and I are working on things so hopefully it will be alright.
  9. Guys, I'm going to bare my soul a little here which is difficult to do but I really don't have anyone else to talk to since my Dad passed away a couple of years ago. My Wife and I have been married 33 years and we're recently empty nesters. Our two sons live two hours away and we do not see them as much as we would like. Here are the issues. I've worked for a long time at my current job and getting kind of tired of it. I'm 58 so I'm too young to retire and too old to have to start over if I didn't have to. My Wife and I have had issues with our marriage for years but now the kids are gone we're wondering if we should stay together or not. Financially it would be ruinous for me to get a divorce but I also don't want the remaining years of my life to not be happy. Anyone else dealing with these issues that around my age??
  10. We fisherman are so fortunate today. There are so many good rods and reels for every taste and price range! I'm a SC fanboy (like supporting American made products!) primarily but I have owned/ do own Dobyn's, Fenwick and BPS rods that I've been happy with too. As far as reels I have been pleased with Shimano, Daiwa, and Abu Garcia.
  11. I guess I'm pretty brand loyal. Rods - almost exclusively St. Croix. Reels (both spinning and BC) almost entirely Shimano but I have a few Daiwa spinning reels.
  12. SC Mojo Bass is a good option and has SCIII graphite.
  13. In my 25 years of using SC rods I have only broken three. Two were me being stupid (wind blowing the door shut while taking a rod out of the car) and one I have no explanation for (a 68MXF Mojo Bass Wacky Style). In all three cases SC's CS was very good. I know for most people it's not possible BUT if you can visit their factory store I think they are more forgiving. I remember when everything from their AVID line and up came with a LT warranty but too many people ruined it by taking advantage of it with bogus claims.
  14. I'm glad that they are still available for folks that like them. I also appreciate you informing people that certain models no longer have that feature!
  15. My problem with longer rods is transportation. Do others have that issue?
  16. I've never used the anti-reverse switch in my 50 years of fishing so not an issue. I personally find them a pain because I have accidently turned them on. I'm glad that Daiwa has them for folks that like them but I've never seen the use of them that the drag can't handle.
  17. After much thought I decided to bite the bullet and get the reel I knew I would not be disappointed in. I spent more than I was originally wanting to but reel selection (especially) in the 1000 size is limited in my area. I'll let you all know how I like it after I use it a few times. Regards, Randy
  18. @Eric 26, you are correct in that earlier this year I purchased a SC Triumph 66LF for pan fishing and paired it with a Shimano Nexave 1000. I have been happy with it BUT saw that SC now has the Avid panfish series and I was going to be in the Park Falls (SC Factory) area on Monday so I bought it. I would like to put a Vanford 1000 on it but it's a little out of my budget at the moment. I was trying to find a Fuego LT 1000 but none of my local Cabela's/BPS have anything in stock. That's pretty much true with Shimano too. I may just wait till next spring to buy a dedicated reel for it.
  19. @casts_by_fly, so is it size or weight that determines what reel should go on a light rod?
  20. I just bought the new SC Avid Panfish 70LXF rod and need advise as to what reel to pair it with. I already have a Shimano Nexave 1000 (cheap reel I know but I do like it) or I have an older Shimano Stradic 2500 Ci4+ that I could put on it. The Ci4+ is actually lighter than the Nexave even though it's a 2500. I know most guys recommend the 1000 size for a pan fish rod but I didn't know if that was based on size or weight? Thoughts/opinions???
  21. This summer I've primarily been a bank fisherman targeting panfish. The lake I fish in has a decent crappie population and they are good to eat. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a slip bobber/panfish rig so based on the recommendations of others I bought a SC Triumph 66LF rod and a Shimano Nexave 1000 FL spinning reel and lined it with 4 lb. Stren XL. I have caught quite a few nice crappies and blue gills with it and have been very pleased. I'm glad I went with the L power vs. UL because occasionally I've caught a LM bass and liked the little stiffer power. I liked the way the Triumph loaded up when catching a larger fish and it had the backbone for a few larger bass. I was really impressed on how smooth the Nexave was for a $ 50.00 reel. If I were blindfolded IDK if I could tell the difference btwn it and one of my Stradics. So if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive slip bobber rod the Triumph and Nexave are a good choice.
  22. Thanks guys for the replies. I am hoping to try one out prior to purchasing. I have a few SC Legend Elite's and I do not know how much better it can get but I've always heard that the NRX+ is the pinnacle in rods so I want to see if I'm missing out.
  23. I'm looking to purchase my first NRX spinning rod and want something that's very versatile. TIA....Randy
  24. It will never happen because my wife wouldn't be happy there but I "think" I would love living in the northwoods of WI. I used to hunt and fish there a lot 15 years ago. I say "think" because the fantasy vs the reality is probably a lot different.
  25. I broke a Mojo Bass rod a couple of years ago and SC just has me send the picture of the break along with the serial and model number. I chose to upgrade to an Avid X (now discontinued). I complained about the $ 50.00 shipping but the CS person did lower the upgrade price so I felt like I got a little bit of a deal. Normally I visit the factory once a year on my way up to Cable, WI to musky fish and take care of any warranty issues in person. My experience with SC CS has been excellent!
