  1. Call me surprised. I thought it was a pricing error but I received my jigs today. They threw in an extra pack of 3 to make it 33 jigs total for $40 shipped. Huge savings for me, I primarily fish football jigs all year.
  2. Just read the fine print to make sure that the proof docs are free as well. They could charge you for that. I took the NASBLA course 7-8 years ago and paid I believe $35 but it included a pretty nice course layout / videos and they mailed me a plastic credit card style license.
  3. The reel may be on the light side being that you are surf fishing. From a boat, it would be plenty. I use a 3000 series reel from a boat which some may consider light but they’re higher ends reels with good drag. The rod sounds like the right action but you’re probably going to want something a little longer at the end of the day so to speak for longer casts. I do not surf fish much as I usually fish from a boat but I do have a Tsunami 10’ MHF rod and a 5000 Penn reel that I use when I do. Would I be afraid to use your setup, not at all but a 40”+ striper will give you a run for your money. You’re not just fighting the fish, you’re also fighting the surf.
  4. Any chance you have played with this reel yet? I have a 71 and absolutely love it so I would like to hear your opinion. The Reeltest on YouTube pretty much states they are identical and he sees the 150 making the 70 obsolete. I wouldn’t mind a little extra drag and to save $20.
  5. Order placed. Let's see if I receive 5 or 30 jigs for $40 shipped.......
  6. Thanks! And Wow! I’m going to jump and see what happens.
  7. That link is $4.49 for a single 1/2 ounce jig which seems more inline with Dobyns pricing. 6 for $6 would be nice.
  8. The site gives the appearance that you are getting a 6 pack of jigs for $6 but I don’t believe that to be true. They are sold in groups of 6, meaning you would have to make your order for 6 jigs, thus making the total sale price $36 for 6 jigs. If you ordered 1 of this, 1 of that. I would expect to receive 1 jig of this or that and not 6. I would love to be proven wrong on this. I would buy them out of its current stock at $1 each.

I do use this rig at times. It works great as a reaction bait in clear, heavy vegetation water. Same rig on another body of water that is always stained with green algae, not a bite.
  10. These prices make no sense. Has anyone confirmed if this is a site error?
  11. Not for me. Fishing is like an addictive drug to me. If I don’t get out fishing at least once a week (hopefully twice or more) I feel like I am in withdrawal and NEED to get out. There are weeks I do get out 3-4 times and I think, ok, take a break. Usually those are the weeks where I travel to saltwater and local.
  12. I have used both and ended up liking Assassin over Sniper. I'd recommend trying both and see how they feel to you. If there is one thing I have learned about line, it is a very personal choice.
  13. What has taught me the most is when you find a bite, switch to the method you're trying to learn or are struggling with. Your confidence will soar when you catch and when you don't, you have an instant comparison of why one worked and the other did not.
  14. 4" Rage Craw on a 3/4" Ounce Football Jig. That combo is deadly for me but I will admit, I am a football jig addict.
  15. My local lake has Walleye, some really good sized ones too but anytime someone catches one (and posts about it) it is always a by-product catch. Myself included on the by-product catch. I want to try and learn how to find and target them specifically. Learning this however is going to be a tall order for me as I am have been SO addicted to bass fishing the last few years.
  16. I outfitted my new boat this past Spring. I like Garmin tech but when it came to a TM, I went Ultrex. I do like the Force but what I need out of my TM is predictable use, a proven spotlock and when it’s not behaving, servicing dealers that can be found everywhere to minimize downtime. I like that Garmin and Lowrance got into the race, it creates competition, innovation and sometimes even lower prices but for now, I had to go with the industry leader.
  17. I do have spotlock. You just need to make sure you allow for some twisting in your cable length.
  18. At 22, I had a set of waders. I wanted a Porsche at 22, that never happened so I continued to use my waders and enjoyed life.
  19. I can’t comment on 360 but I just installed Livescope today, it is not my first go around with it though. I’ll try to be brief… I had LS on my last boat, a Deep V and I had the LS mounted on a separate pole so I could sit in place spot locked and point the pole wherever I wanted over crappie and whipers. It worked very good for this. My fishing passion however has made a full swing to Bass and I did not find LS to help me much casting at shorelines, I actually found it to be an inconvenience controlling a pole to point at things, cast, control a foot pedal, etc., just too much going on. To satisfy my passion, I sold the Deep V and bought a bass boat this spring, I am home! but I didn’t bother to install LS this go around, remember that inconvenience term I used. My bass fishing style however is increasing. I’ve become proficient fishing both on and off shore but suspended offshore is still a challenge so it got me thinking, an LS mounted to my trolling motor would be a nice tool for offshore fishing and with the rebate and a good discount from a dealer I’ve used before, now was the time to pull the trigger, so I did. Going forward, it will be a great tool to sweep an area I’m fishing with the foot controls I am already using and give me a little more confidence in figuring out presentations for suspended fish as well as make me more efficient in my time on the lake.
  20. I bought one of these in early September. It has become my favorite football jig rod. Good weight / feel, sensitivity and construction. This was my first Dobyn's purchase.....it will not be my last.
  21. I have this pullover and I really like it. It blocks the wind well for me. I would only wear it on days starting at 40 degrees and rising as you’re pushing the limits in staying warm with how I believe it is intended to be worn. With that said, I find a base layer and a t-shirt, to be my preferred dress before putting this on for both warmth and mobility. You’ll want to wear a baseball cap while using the hood as it keeps the hood out of the way. The neck / face shield works well for me too, plenty of comfort. I like that it has thumb inserts at the end of the sleeves as well as the large center pocket for both warmth and storing whatever you like to have on you.
  22. Reeling isn’t the thing that I scratch my head about but hook setting I do. I cannot understand how someone who uses one arm for casting, I would assume, it is there dominant hand, does not use their dominant hand to set the hook. I understand most people are ambidextrous in many ways, I am myself but when comparing casting and hooking, I would think the same hand / arm would be preferred?
  23. I bought a new boat this past Spring and did not equip it with Livescope but my prior boat, I did. On the last boat, at the very least, it helped me visualize what I was seeing on down and side imaging and I believe I can read a finder better today because of it but when it came down to actual fishing for Bass, I found it to be counter-productive to how I like to fish. I found myself constantly trying to locate fish rather than fishing to only learn that there are situations where even Livescope cannot reveal everything, a precisely thrown cast however, more often can and if you rely on Livescope to save you casts, you will skip over many fish. That is not to say that if you use it as an additional tool, it has benefits but it's easy to get swept up using it as a method and not as just a tool. I will admit, it was neat and has many benefits to Crappie and Hybrid Striper fishing. It becomes a video game and the amount I caught was off the charts but in my heart of hearts, I am a bass angler and those side trips to catch Crappie and Hybrids was just entertainment trying out the new toy.
  24. Warranty and Insurance are the same thing. If a manufacturer gives an easy replacement fee warranty, my Costa glasses come to mind, there is money built in the original cost for Insurance, ie, warranty. I applaud people for taking the stance of if I broke it, it’s my fault, I’ll pay for it but if the “deal” contains warranty with easy replacement fees, it would be foolish to not use the warranty because you already paid for it.
  25. This year I was looking for a similar rod. I mostly use 3/4 ounce football jigs and went with a Dobyns DC 704C. It is not “amazingly” sensitive but sensitive enough. What I really like about it is it’s balance and weight and I find that it is perfect for this task….which happens to be my preferred fishing method.
