  1. Is something wrong with the reel or are you just trying to swap them? That side plate will be the same for all gear ratios
  2. at $199 and $249 theyre really coming in at a competitive price point ... Id stick with a proven brand
  3. The whole "twice as good" talk always gets me ... how do you use something concrete like numbers to describe something so subjective??? Are we talking twice as light, twice as smooth, casts twice as far? or about the experience like The $100 reel made me level 1 happy The $400 reel only makes me level 3 happy
  4. And DONT work on carpet
  5. I was the same way ... KVD conditioner is one of those things you dont know you need until you actually use it. IMO makes a difference on all line except braid
  6. Academy has them at a reasonable price $13 ... If they ever get them back in stock. For the past week it shows shipping only but upon checkout it tells you none in stock. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/ph-custom-squarebill-1-hard-bait#repChildCatid=8015654
  7. Thanks. I did look through that thread and just wanted to see if we had other suggestions come up. Ive read most books mentioned there with the exception of Knowing Bass
  8. Anyone have any recommended reading? Books I have read and enjoyed are: Spoonplugging In Pursuit of Giant Bass Joe Bucher's Crankbait Secrets Anything along the lines of these books (which I consider books for intermediate fishermen) would be great.
  9. Is it common for people to spool reels using a line counter? Ive never even considered it ...
  10. Did you share this thought before you tried them both? Only after trying a high end reel can you decide for yourself
  11. Toyota Corolla vs a Ferrari Both will do the job but one gives you bragging rights and is capable of more ... although in all likelihood you will rarely push it to its limits.
  12. Y'all must be fishing the wrong line if fish can see it
  13. The bite has been good on carolina rigged fat alberts in pearl
  14. ^ I agree. If you actually take the time to set the drag to 1/4 - 1/3 of line lb rating youll be fine. It takes a lot for a line to lose 2/3's of its breaking strength.
  15. This is one of those lures that i throw every so often despite never having any success with it. They sure are purdy though!
  16. I also use this pretty frequently. You can see changes in water level and for me, its been especially useful in figuring out quarry depth/structure since there are no topo maps for it. https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer
  17. Its all relative. I really looked forward to my Lews LFS but i made the mistake of getting a Fuego CT first. When i got the LFS small things like rough edges in the casting stood out more and as a result, back it went. Im sure if i hadn't picked up the Fuego CT first I would have been perfectly happy with the LFS @ $100.
  18. Im not sure how the 705CB handles, but you should be fine throwing up to a 6xd with a medium heavy. Once you go bigger than that, a heavy rod will likely suit you better. I wouldnt try to get a single combo to fish all crankbaits as youll likely end up with something that can do everything but nothing well. Try to determine what lures/depth youll primarily fish and then build around that.
  19. LC 1.5 silents are solid producers for me still
  20. Shore, off a dock that sits at about 10ft of water casting towards about 20-25ft of water.
  21. I may have misspoken but yeah im basically dragging from 12-2 then reeling in slack. The reason for 20lb is simply to reduce break offs on the mainline. Today I was able to recover the rig after a snag but not before breaking 2 beads.
  22. Yeah its likely just a difference in feel. Ill try that approach to setting the hook as with braid i was basically sweeping from whatever position I was in since my rod movements are only about 12 - 2 when working the rig.
  23. Update ... still no breaks. I definitely slowed down and managed to pick a couple of bites but was unable to land any fish. I am not sure if this was due to the stretch factor of 20lb copoly at such a long distance or the fact that I was fishing a fat body grub which I typically struggle with unless fishing with an exposed hook. In either case, my respects to people fishing carolina rigs on mono mainline ... that must be one hell of a hookset youre doing!
  24. I highly doubt it. Hes fishing on a slope and its 2 vs 1 ... the moment he reaches hes getting pushed. Real thugs are taking the camera ... its easier to pawn
