Both have been reliable stapel in the salt water scene for ages.. The new ones are not made in the USA , they are now made in China. I had a Penn rep tell me that they sent thier engieers over there to make sure that the reels were up to standards. He said that the reason they sent them oversees is because the old ownership had let the factory go down and it was cheaper to build a new factory than to upgrade the old. I not sure how true this info is. I was looking into gettting some Penns last year. I may still do it if I can find some of the older American made ones at a reasonable price. The Slammers are suppose to be better than the SSM's, which are bigger offshore reels, the smaller SSG are around the same size as Shimano's smaller reels. Also the Slammers are metal where as the SSG's are graphite. Hope this helps Big T.

Not to sound smart of anything but the guys fishing around here on the coast have been using Stradics for saltwater for years, as a matter of fact I have two Symtre 4000's that I use for inshore applications and I have never had any issues with them. So the BPS guy really is not doing anything but trying to push the new Stradic. Just my $.02 Big T

What kind of reel was it, spinning or level wind. True offshore level winds or conventional reels due not cast light lures well. They are mainly used for trolling apllications and for chunking heavy baits such as live menhadden, etc. Also saltwater reels are supposed to offer a higher level of corroisn protection, however some so called freshwater reels will work in the saltwater envrionment. I use 4000 series Symtre's for inshore applications and have never had any issues. I just rinse them down after every use. Hoe this helps. Big T

Duke looked very good however they due not like to play traditional powerhouses outside of the ACC. It might ruin their nonconference win streak at that High School Gym (I mean Cameron Indoor Stadium)they play at. Really though I can not rag Duke all that much anymore, considering I chose to have my spinal tumor removed there, when I could have went to Chapel Hill. Good lawyers but Duke has better doctors. Ok, the bait monkey managed to get into my wife's head. So it looks like I am going to take advantege of this Shimano rebate and get and Citica/Extreme Combo. So my question is this which combo would you guys get based off of these rods I already have: 1. I already have a 6'6" Mh fast Convergence with an Abu Garcia 4600C3 2. I have a 6'6" ML fast Compre with a Daiwa Advantage 150H I am thinking that I want to use this for spinnerbaits and jigs, or more of a all purpose deal and retire the Abu 4600 as a backup, so should I get a 7ft MH or a 6'6" MH rod, for the reel I am thinking of getting the 100dsv unless someone can convince me otherwise on why I should get the 200. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Big T

Carolina versus UK has become a big rivalry not as big as Carloina vs. Duke, who I hate more than any other team. I was in Lexington two seasons ago when Uk had lost like three or four game early on in the season and the morning radio hosst were calling for Tubby's Hide. The same thing happened in Chapel Hill the last year that we had Matt Doherty. The problem is with UK and Carolina, you have the two winningest team in history and we are sometimes spoiled to the fact that we expect nothing less than national championships every year. I like Roy Williams but I miss the old days when we had Dean Smith, who I believe still has an office in the basement at the Smith Center. He is a atheltic advisor i.e puppet master.

The problem with society is that we give kids too much imput. For example I use to work at Toys-R-US when I was in college and I would see kids grab stuff or start acting wild and the parent(s) would say something like Johnny don't you think it would be a good idea if we put that up or some crap like that. Don't ask them to do something, tell them. And another thing I hate is timeout, that only gives them time to think about what they are going to get into next. I did not get many spankings growing up, I probably got less than 4 or 5 in my entire youth. I had to really mess up to get one. It starts when they are toddlers and learning respect, which is something I do not think many kids have these days. Sorry for such a long post, but that is my opinion and everyone has one when it comes to raising children. Big T

UNC beat Ohio State in basketball last night. Now, we have to go to Rupp Arena this weekend. Now normally I would pull for UK as my wife is from Lexington and they are my second favorite team. However when it comes to Carolina all bets are off. I hope Ty Lawson is good to go for Carolina. Uk needs to play better than they played Tuesday against Stony Brook, otherwise it might be over before it starts. Go Heels! Big T

Urban Myer, sure he won a national championship, but that was at school known for having a big time program. Plus I hate that offense that he runs. He has his QB running as much as he throws. It reminds me of Nebraska and the option that they ran for years. Another overrated coach is the old ball coach, Steve Spurrier, he could not cut it at Washington and South Carolina is looking that great either after two seasons. This is just my opinion though. After futher review of the picture, I retract my statement. It possibly could be a dolphin. It is definatley shaped weird for a shark. That is a huge Dolphin if that is what is. I am still not going surfing, swimming ,or anything that requires me getting out of my boat in water that is more than knee deep. ;D Big T

Progress Enegry did that with Sutton Lake, and marked it with bouys like they use offshore for the artificial reefs, the beach communites have also use Chritmas trees to build up the dunes as well.

I actually just want to feel the differnce in the sizes of them and such. If I got one I was going to get the BPS extreme combo because that is a steal at that price, I just not sure if I would like the powerhump handle.

It is a shark, that dorsal fin is to sharply pointed and I have never seen a Dolphin that large before. Big T

Wow, this is interesting. I just wanted to know if both reels held close to the smae amount of line what would be the advantage of getting the bigger version. If the 200 has beefier gears then I am going to go with that one as I would like to use it for Redfish as well as Bass. I guess a trip to BPS is in my future.
