Bitter Rivalry?????
That is the most idiotic thing I have read in awhile. If this is the case then you might as well put a fence up along US 15 between Chapel Hill and Durham so that the Duke and Carolina Fans do not get to close each other, and tell the NC State fans to stay over in Raliegh. As much Duke and Carolina dislike each other at least we have enough sense and respect for the schools not act like complete redneck morons. Big T

Are you ready for some football?
I do not see Nebraska beating USC, they are just not the powerhouse that they were ten or twenty years ago. Pete Carroll has built a powerhouse at USC, they are way better than Nebraska.

College Football this past week
North Carolina looked pretty good as they start the Butch Davis era. And my other favorite Southern Cal rolled as expected, I hope it is the first step towards a trip to New Orleans, and another national title for them men from Troy. Big T

Juvenile red drum, also known as puppy drum can stand lower levels of salinity. They are often caught in creeks where their is more fresh water. Big T

Question about Saltwater in NC
Instead of using blood worms may I suggest using fresh shrimp. If you wanted to go the artificial route pick up some Bekley Gulp or Gulp Alive shrimp in new penny or white colors, also maybe get some Gulp peeler crabs or real sandfleas. There are usually some Sheepshead or Blackdrum hangiing around the pilings of piers as well. Good Luck Big T

Pflueger GOLD Medalist Pro Reel anygood?
In response to the Pflueger not be rated as saltwater reel, neither is my Shimano Symtre but it has held up a heck alot better than the Pfluegers have in the enivronment where I fish. I was knocking these reels as far as BAss fishing I was merely pointing out that if you fish in a tidal river as I do where it goes from salt to brackish water then it would not hold up. Big T

Pflueger GOLD Medalist Pro Reel anygood?
My wife has this smae reel, it is a pretty good reel for freshwater but I think it as well as the last Pfluger reel I bought sucks as far as durability in the salt and brackish waters, I fish. The finish corrodes to quickly. > I will not waste my money on another, next time I will buy a Shimano. Just my opinion though. Tony

My Sunday afternoon trip on the NE Cape Fear River
Due to the heat and rain I have not been fishing for the last three weekends. Well the heast finally broke a little and it was not raining, so I decided to take my wife fishing Sunday afternoon. I put in on the NE Cape Fear river and ran to a creek that I have not really fished but I knew it had alot of cover and laydowns. Well after getting to the creek I tied on a black with Chartruese green jig that I found in an old tackle box. I started working this jig near some mats painfully slow, when I caught a smaller 12- 13 inch bass. Nothing to really brag about in size but it is the first Bass I have caught all summer, it was also the fisrt Bass I have ever caught in the river and the first I have caught on a jig. I did not catch anything else but my wife was using the smae lure and rod and had somthing hit it a pull some drag, but she pulled it from it mouth and it took my skirt. She also caught a nice cat fish that might have went 3-4 pounds on her little 4 1/2 ft UL rod. The fish broke off just as I went to land it in the net, but she had to the boat twice before I could get to the back where she was fishing. She also caught a few panfish as well. Kind oo a mixed bag but it was nice to be on the water. I think I might be on to something with this jig fishing in this creek, I hear the baitmonkey calling. He is telling me I need more jigs and jig rod, as I was using a MH spinning rod with 12# line.

Fishing Myths and superstitions
I have heard that Bannanas on a boat are bad luck, I not sure why other than tripping on a peel that some one hase dropped on deck.

freshwater drum fishing
Black Drum are a relative two the Red Drum. They belong to the same family along with Spots and Croakers. Black Drum are actually very tasty fish as long as you get them when they are still juveniles, 15 pounds and under, when they get full grown and start loosing their black stripes they develop parasites. They are also srtong fish, we catch them hear in the lower Cape Fear river, as matter of fact the state record was caught in the lower part of the river near the mouth of the river. Also what is called a Blackfish here is actually a Bowfin. Each region has their won name for certain fish, no offense taken.

Reel or Rod
I voted for the reel, however I think for freshwater fishing the rod might be more important for sensitivity. When I am saltwater water fishing I think the reel is more improtant because you need a reel with a good drag, especially when fishing for King Mackeral. A nice size King can spoll a couple hundred yards a line real quick and weak drag can mean the difference between a nice fish and getting skunked. Big T

Is It Hot Yet?
It is definately hot. The plant where I work, it was 95 degrees at 4:00 PM and it was still 89 degrees at 9:30 PM. It is supposed to cool off Saturday, if you call 90 degrees cool.

My wife shot the bait monkey
My wife recently got rid of the Baitmonkey as well, the only thing is she traded him in for his even more evil cousin called the boat monkey, which is due to arrive sometime in Janaury. ;D Big T

Barry Bonds
I do not like Barry Bonds but he is going to break the record, however, I would not be surprised to see his record broken in 5 to 10 years by A-Rod. He is sittng on 499, and he is still fairly young by baseball standards.

Shark fishing
Cliff, That's funny that you mentioned following the shrimp boats down in Texas, I was just reading an article in the North Carolina about doing the same thing. They were using spanih mackeral and dead cigar minnows. Like you they wer catching Black Tips, spinners and a varity of sharks. I believe a couple of them went over three hundred pounds. I plan on chartering a boat dwon here to show me how to do this kind of fishing, as I am hopefully going to get a bigger boat this winter. Tony

some people have no sense
I had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. Where I put in on the NE cape Fear river there is a train trestle right beside the wildife ramp. When I passed through the train trestle there was a bucnh of teenagers jumping off the trestle birdge, then they went swimming right over to the launch ramp a preceded to hold on to the docks with their feet dangling in the middle of the ramp and the language coming form their mouths belonged in the gutter. After expressing my thoughts on how stupid I thought they were, they were still hanging around. They finally moved when some other younger guys with huge ski boat ran them out of the water. I have been told that these same idiots jump off of the highway bridge that is on the other side of the wildlife ramp area, which is about 20-30 feet high. You can not fix stupid. Big T

Your Biggest freshwater fish?
My biggest freshwater fish was a 19" Bass, not sure on the weight. Maybe 2-3 pounds. I have not done much freshwater fishing until this year. My biggest saltwater fish was a 60" Wahoo that went 40 pounds. Big for me but small considering a woman caught one weighing over 75 to 80 pounds the following week on the same charter boat I was on. favorite Boat MOTORS?????
I have only owned two motors, a 25hp Nissan and a 25hp four stroke Yamaha. The Nissan was ok the first year and a half then the next two years it was in the shop more than in the water. I love the Yamaha, very reliable so far and quiet. It is only a year old but and seeing as I am planning on getting another boat I can not talk about it's longevity. If I cannot get another boat wiht Yamaha power then I am getting a Suzuki.

Strength wise football players have the edge, but soccer players have more endurance. Example, a soccer player is not going to move a three hundred pound lineman. Likewise that smae lineman is not going to be able to continuosly run up and down a soccer field for a solid 45 minute period, like in a soccer match. Like I said I love football but I thingk soccer players may have an edge in edurance conditioning. Big T

Beckham
I love football but I would say that soccer players are more atheletic than football palyers. In football you are only on the field for short periods and you have a chance to catch you breath after every down. However in soccer you have two 45 minute periods and it is total no stop action, you have to have great strength and endurance to play, especially in the extreme heat. Big T

Stress Relief
They are great dogs, very intelligent as well. We had to put child locks on the China cabinet because they figured out how to open the doors to get my work snacks. So far they have destroyed several soft sided lunch boxes and four small Igloo coolers getting snack bars that I tend to leave in there from work.

Stress Relief
My Lab had puppies on July 4th, so now their eyes are open and they are starting to play and move around more. Having puppies in the house is such a stress releiver. I play with them everynight when I come home form work. It is hard to be in a bad mood with these little guys around. I am going to be a little sad to see them go but I already have three Labs. I have the parents and I kept one from the last litter. There is never a dual moment when you have Labs around. Big T
