  1. This is how I know how long I got away from fishing (and how older I’ve gotten)- they used to be called floating or diving plugs. Jerkbaits sound new to me, but they aren’t lol.
  2. I wonder is that’s due to simple overuse, or that the anglers who first fished them when new were more experienced and as they became popular, more and more started throwing them and not really fishing them properly.
  3. I know my Dingers sink slower than my Senkos. Is that why you use a weighted hook? I find at times the Senko sinks too fast, and when I switch to a Dinger I get bites on the slower fall. Haven’t experimented with a faster fall than a Senko. May have to try that. Nothing to me is as exciting as topwater, and working a Texas rig and feeling that “tap” and driving home a 3/0 EWG is likely my favorite way to fish, but I’ve gotten more catches on a 5” Senko WR than any other lure. I guess these pond bass just love ‘em. I also rarely ever see another angler casting it. Mostly spinnerbaits, T rigs and frogs.
  4. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again. I’ve been a member of various hunting forums over the past 15 years or so and learned quite a bit to improve my deer hunting. But I learned more in 6 weeks on BR to vastly improve my bass fishing skills. It’s an awesome site. My bank account likely doesn’t agree, but the Monkey gives two ??up!
  5. I have a HMX 66M-FS-2. I think you’ll be pleased fishing jerkbaits with it.
  6. I got my Fishmas box days ago but just received my order to ship out. The recipient should have it by Tuesday. I have not opened mine as I’m waiting til Fishmas Day!
  7. 5” Senko about 95% of the time. Yum Dingers after that. But I do want to try the Xzone True Center Sticks. They look and sound good.
  8. Great price for that rod! I think you will like it.
  9. ^^^This. It’s not live bait. It’s not even dead “live” bait. No different than hair or feathers on a fly or jig.
  10. Whatta toad! Congrats on the new PB!
  11. Nice fish! She’s got the trophy pic pose down pat!
  12. I’d be more than elated to fish with @A-Jay and try for some nice brown bass! @WRB and @Glenn would also be welcome.
  13. I have two baitcasting Aird X’s: a AIRX661MFB and a AIRX701MHFB. They are hard to beat for the money.
  14. Big ol’ bluegills. Floured with salt and pepper and fried in butter. Served with a little butter and a squirt of lemon juice. Good eatin’!
  15. My TW UPS update says I will receive my shipment on 12/19. That’s a Saturday. I ordered everything on 12/07. So I likely won’t get what I’m giving shipped until Monday the 21st. d**n this COVID!!! ?
  16. I haven’t received my order to ship out yet, so I don’t want to open the shipment I got until I do.
  17. I won’t add anything I haven’t seriously fished with, as it’s a no-brainer I haven’t caught anything on those lol. On lures I fished a few or more times, I’d have to say a jig and craw. I’ve caught bass (not many) on jigs with Keitech trailers, but never on a craw. Maybe due to fishing ponds? Then again, I’m not that experienced with jigs. But so far this year I’ve caught my first bass on: Topwater- Whopper Plopper 90 Spinnerbait- I think it was a War Eagle Plastics- TR and WR Senkos; Zoom Tricks and Mag 2’s; Mann’s Jelly Worm Jig- some old jigs I’ve had for 40+ years lol All-in-all I can’t complain!
  18. Not a 7’, but I have a Fenwick HMX 66M-FS-2 and it’s a great finesse rod that’s not in the way fishing from the bank. And won’t break the bank, either. So I would guess the HMG 70MF-FS-2 is likely better.
  19. For me, the changes have been night and day. "Then" was 95% casting nightcrawlers and/or minnows (every now and then some crayfish or hellgrammites) either on the bottom or under a bobber and waiting to see if I caught a fish. Fishing was much more a relaxing pursuit than a real challenge. "Now" is radically different. I'm using many different lures and catching bass on all of them, and fishing out of a small boat vs. being a bank angler. All my rigs are new as of 2020 and I'm happy as a clam!
  20. Sounds like a good fish? How heavy?
  21. And I thought my 50 year-old Shakespeare 2052 and Mitchell 300 reels were old lol. Great thread!
  22. Old thread but still relevant. And take this with a grain of salt as I am still relatively “new” to getting back into bass fishing after a long hiatus. So once I decided to get back into bass fishing in a major way, I read a lot of threads here and got some great ideas and suggestions on rods, reels, lines, lures, knots, you name it. And then I started watching all the other folks fishing the same ponds. Most use cheap gear, with either hi-vis line or braid with no leader, and they cast hard and reel fast. And most catch nothing, or they only catch dinks. I’ve seen two anglers pull a 3+ lb LMB out of the pond, and one was on a live bluegill. The other was on a spinnerbait, and to be honest, his catch surprised me as he casted and reeled in the same exact way on every cast without the slightest deviation. So observe what other anglers are doing (the ones not catching any bass) and do something different. If everything is big, fast and noisy, go small, slow and quiet. Give the bass something they aren’t used to seeing. And if all else fails, cast a 5” Senko weightless Texas rig on a 3/0 EWG!
  23. That’s basically my fishing right there. I bring 6’6” MF and a 7’0” MHF baitcasters with 12 lb YZH for topwater, spinnerbaits, Texas rigs, jigs, etc., and a 6’6” MF and a 6’6” MLXF spinners with (for now) 8 lb YZH for finesse.
  24. No. That would have been BrianTXMD lol!
