  1. At least this is a game! 49ers look to be about the score to start the 4th quarter but through 3 quarters it’s knotted up 9-9. Been some hard hits and splash plays but both defenses have clamped down when called upon.
  2. By the way, I do not just mean you. I mean all of us. That speaks way more than words!
  3. If anyone ever asks you why you fish and is it fun, show them this video. It explains it all! Nice bass!
  4. Fished with it for ten minutes just to check it out. Seems to cast rather well and was more supple in the water than I thought it may be. I read one review that said not to use an Improved Clinch knot as the line is very smooth and they don’t hold well. That’s 90% of the knots I tie for terminal tackle. I was casting an 5” X-Zone True Center Stick on a 4/0 EWG with a 3/16 oz. tungsten bullet weight and the distance was very good. I “hooked” a large branch that at first I thought was a nice bass (it seemed like it fought a bit lol). I was able to reel it in and release the hook and the knot held fine, but we’ll see how it fares when I actually hook a bass with it. All-in-all, I’m pleased with it at this point.
  5. Wow. That’s two seconds of snipping.
  6. In bowhunting we say, “Looking for bucks? Look for the does”. Staying with bait makes sense to me. When they finally start to feed, you’re on the feed.
  7. Good question. My old director (from PA) and I (from MD) used to mess with each other over which was the “real” OC. My guess would be MD, as I think the fishing is better there.
  8. Man. The box may be worth as much as the reel! That’s a great find.
  9. It’s worthless if applied solo. You need someone to lovingly and gently rub it on your chest while singing a lullaby. That’s what knocks you out!
  10. Five to a bag. Yeah, I bet they go quick. Especially if little fellers nip ‘em by the tail.
  11. Tom, I get the feeling if I was looking for yellowcake uranium you’d likely have a contact! You are truly a wealth of knowledge on this site!
  12. $85K was expensive in 1984!
  13. Too $$$ for my blood. Nice if you have the scratch for it, but OMG that’s big coin for a bass boat. I’d want to be able to sleep IN it for that money.
  14. I don’t care who wins. As long as it ain’t the Bengals!!! ?
  15. After reading a lot of reviews on BR and on the Internet, I decided to try some Sunline Shooter Defier for my main Texas rig set-up (Daiwa Fuego FGCT100XS on a Falcon Lowrider All ‘Round Fast LFC-7MHF). It’s 15 lb. test (0.013”). I have been using 12 lb. Berkley Big Game (0.014”) so it’s just a bit smaller in diameter for a slightly stronger line. It’s dark green, which should do well in the pond I fish. I will say from just spooling it and tying on a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG, it seems a bit stiffer. Seemed easy to tie knots with, which I guess is due to its purported slipperiness.
  16. Yes. NYT and USA Today are favorites.
  17. If you want to fish nights and want to deal with bugs, get a Thermocell. Never bowhunt early season without it.
  18. Both are real classics. Once Upon a Time in the West is superb. I would not put all the Duke’s westerns in the Top Ten. But I’d put True Grit, The Searchers and Rio Bravo there!
  19. Yes, it’s a Western. Good film, too. Although (spoiler alert!) I don’t know why he came out of the cabin. He had good, open shots at Indians just standing there lol.
  20. Tombstone is very entertaining (Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is fantastic), and I’ve watched it many times. But IMHO, it’s not in the Top Ten of Westerns.
  21. I’ll go 2 out of 3 lol. The first two. I also love Pale Rider, which is like a combination of Shane/High Plains Drifter. Watching Clint dispatch Stockburn and his deputies one by one as he casually reloads his Remington 1861 by swapping loaded cylinders.
  22. Oh my. ONE? I don’t know if I can do that. Westerns are likely my favorite genre of films. It’s tough to look back over 80-90+ years of films and compare them and pick just one as the best. I call foul!!! One western that’s likely not on most folk’s radar that’s excellent is The Ox Bow Incident. It’s not a shoot’em up oater, but the story and acting is top notch. So is Shane. Some have a little humor, such as Rio Bravo and its step-brother, El Dorado. Man, this is worse than blonde, brunette or redhead! I will say one of my favorites is Open Range, with Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner and Annette Bening. The final shootout in that film is superb, filmed in wide shots in real time. If you’ve never watched it, give it a shot. Of any actor who I thought truly portrayed the gruff loner facing the open prairie of the Old West, my $$$ goes on post-war Jimmy Stewart. He was a gangly young man with a goofy smile prior to 1941, but came back a man hardened by combat missions over Germany that translated into his acting. He made great Westerns with Anthony Mann, such as Winchester ‘73.
  23. It’s rather strange, considering that the 2-3 acre pond I fish the most is smack dab in the middle of a suburban residential neighborhood. But it is 75% surrounded by trees and 90% of anglers fish the open areas where it’s easier to cast. While I have seen anglers in a canoe and a fishing kayak, I’ve never had one on the water when I’ve been in my inflatable boat. If I’m in the N or NE side, I often have the water to myself. Thirty seconds to drive there, ten minutes tops to unload the boat and have it in the water and seconds later I’m making my first cast. Hard to believe, but it is my quiet place.
  24. I use that exact seasoning when I make fajitas. It’s good stuff! There’s my staple. Steamed crabs and shrimp, crab cakes, wings, French fries, popcorn and definitely in a spicy Bloody Mary!
