I normally carry 5 rigs on my inflatable, but some are duplicates (rigged with different baits). If I narrowed it done to three, it would likely be a 7’ MH/F with a 8.1:1 baitcasting reel with 10 lb. Big Game (Texas rigs); 7’ MH/MF with a 6.3:1 baitcasting reel with 10 lb. Big Game for crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwaters ; and a 6’ 6” M/F spinning rig with 20 lb. braid to 6 or 8 lb. mono leader for wacky rigs, weightless Senko TR, etc. That’s my main, three-rig everyday go-to’s. If I take 5, it’s a 6’ 10” ML/XF spinning rig with 20 lb. braid to 6 to 8 lb. mono leader for Neds and dropshots; and a 7’ 6” H/F with a 6.6:1 baitcasting reel with 50 lb. braid to 12 lb. YZH leader for frogging.

Ok, first off, I do like my Dobyns Fury 705CB for crankbaits. It’s a nice rod. Having said that, in terms of fit, finish and feel, I believe my Falcon Lowrider All ‘Round Fast MH/F is superior. In retrospect, I would have gone with either a Lowrider Cranker II (7’ 6”) MH/MF or the Finesse Jig (6’ 10”) MH/MF.

I’m anxious to try them. I catch bass on many Senko colors, but in my pond, #956 is tops by far. Yet that blackberry Jelly Worm (which is black) is a great producer as well. What’s your best presentation? Texas rig (weightless or weighted), wacky rig or other?

I’ve used a lot of Senkos in various colors, but never black. Strange, as a blackberry Jelly Worm is a good producer. I am going to have to get some black Senkos.

Not while fishing but…years ago my wife and I were sitting on our screen porch back in MD as a thunderstorm approached. We both must have “felt” something simultaneously as we looked at each other at the same moment. Our hair was standing straight up. We beat feet inside. Ten seconds later my neighbor’s oak tree was struck. That was a hairy, scary experience!

I normally use a 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG. I also do not Texpose them, as the “fatness” of that bait seems to leave the hook point laying flush to the surface of the bait and relatively weedless. The great thing (well, two) about the Fat IKA is that it has enough weight to rig weightless (but still casts far), and you can rig it tentacles forward or rearward (sometimes one orientation gets ignored while the other draws strikes). Not many soft plastics are that versatile.

hokie, I’ve used a pantload of different soft plastics but not Roboworms. I know @Spankey loves ‘em. Now I gotta heed the call of the BM and head to Academy and try some! And agreed. Beautiful pics!

Get better soon. So far my two daughters and I have had C-19. Only my wife has been spared. Although her second booster played hell with her MS. I shudder to think what would happen if she catches COVID.

I have a Revros LT2500 on a Fenwick HMX M/F and a Revros LT2000 on a St. Croix Bass-X ML/XF. Both with 20 lb braid-to-leader. The M/F is my wacky rig combo. The ML/XF rig is mainly for Neds and dropshots.

That’s what I do as well.

Try a Gamakatsu 1/0 circle octopus hook. Get a strike, lift the rod tip up 45° and reel it in to set the hook. I rarely lose a bass on a wacky rig.

No, and no. In all honesty, this creek/stream is located on the corporate headquarters of the company I work for in Texas. I have no idea if one can fish there or not, and wasn’t even aware of it until yesterday (I live in Texas but not here). I saw all kinds of bass swimming around but this one was substantially larger than the others I saw in maybe 5 minutes of looking. The water is rather shallow and has a lot of algae but also some clear spots with lily pads. It looks very fishable, which likely means no fishing lol.

It’s an extreme rarity that I don’t have a weightless Texas rigged Senko on one rig and a wacky rigged Senko on another rig. 80% of the time it’s a 5” Senko. If the bite seems slow or the bites are light, I’ll switch to a 4”.

I know it was taken from far off, but how big do you think this bass is? I’d say I was about 50 yards away uphill from the creek. My guess is 6-7 lbs. It looked pretty good!

Pull the PCM fuse to clear codes. It won’t cause you to reset the radio.

I did that for my first time last week. I had a bass hit a Zara Spook and missed it. Immediately threw a WR Senko and it hit it immediately. Lots of fun!

I wish vibrating jigs/chatterbaits produced for me in the ponds I fish, but they don’t. Crankbaits aren’t great, but I do catch some bass on squarebill. Also do ok with jerkbaits. Jigs? Once in a blue moon, but as you say, they are difficult to fish in a mucky pond. Soft plastics rule. Mostly worms of various types and sizes, Senkos for sure, as well as Neko Machos and Fat IKA’s. Craws on a TR aren’t a big producer. Nor are flukes and paddletail swimbaits. It’s surprising to see what discernible tastes these bass have. Sometimes I could fish a craw TR and get maybe one strike, then change to a Zoom Trick or stickbait and get crushed repeatedly.
