  1. Congrats to our top five. I have been having a rough go of it but still having fun checking the updates throughout the tourney days. Now on to some research on the next one! Good luck.
  2. I would suggest that you get out and have a great time. I have fished a couple of different types of tournaments and started out with a learning attitude. The local weeknight tourneys are fun and you can meet some good people. Fishing with a deadline can be a little intimidating but try and go in with a good attitude.
  3. Congrats. Looks like it is time to get my son out for a little fishing around Ames.
  4. Good to hear. The lake I fish on the eastern part of the state is still ice!
  5. Congrats and thanks for the awesome write up.
  6. I was fishing a small lake in Alaska on Fort Richardson for trout and a mama duck was hauling butt across the lake with eight ducklings following her. She started quacking loudly and picked up speed. I turned around to see what the commotion was and a bald eagle dive bombed and snatched one of the ducklings. I will save the bigfoot story for another time......
  7. Brings back memories. Thanks for sharing!
  8. Looks like fun. It has been awhile since I have been able to fish down south. BTW, Nice cat.
  9. Congrats on the awesome catch. Cannot wait to see the replica when it is finally done.
  10. Had a cormorant dive in and get hooked up while we were trolling off of Key Largo. I didn't realize those birds were so big. Luckily we had a towel and the wrestling match was on!
  11. This brings back memories. I was stationed at For Rich and we would make the Kenai/Russian River runs after work and make it back for Physical Training at 6am. Had a couple of rough days but it was well worth it at the time.
  12. Dehydration was one of the things that we had to really watch out for while training in Alaska. Consuming water is almost an afterthought but it is imperative for survival. We had to constantly monitor each other to ensure that we loaded up on water and increase calorie intake. We had a couple of dehydration cases and one guy said that he didn't want to pee in the cold!
  13. I have taken the plunge on a few occasions, depending on what went into the water and where I was fishing. Alaska and the Everglades are a big "NO" for me, not worth jumping in. I did rescue my poles and tackle boxes when our jon boat tipped over due to my "buddy" standing up but that wasn't by choice!
  14. the creek bed is really hard to find on Big Creek, probably due to the erosion over time. And yes, it can get really crowded during the weekend. It produces some nice catches of bass and crappie. There are some nice walleyes taken but I have only caught smaller ones while bass fishing.
  15. Yes. Just started last year. I fished about half of the Tuesday nighters and the September all day tourney this year. We bought a place on Delhi last March so I try to make the drive during the week when I can. It has been fun trying to figure it out also. Plus the added benefit of hooking into smallies. Brushy is just a different type lake with it being a flooded valley and trees everywhere. I guess shallow is better during the summer!
  16. Nice fish and I love the coloration!
  17. Good afternoon. After checking the weather for the next week, I thought that I would daydream and see if anyone has tips for bass fishing Brushy Creek Lake. I am a transplant from the south and have been fishing up here for a few years but Brushy has me stumped when I go. And due to a lot of tournaments on the lake, it seems that most people are tight lipped on techniques. I usually fish Big Creek, the Pine Lakes, and a lot at Lake Delhi last year. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  18. Time to break out the Penn International 80s.........
  19. It seems like there are other members of the ER club. My wife still laughs at me to this day. Buried to the bone and then we had to drive an hour to the boat ramp and then another hour to the post ER. Fun times. The nurse asked what I was there for and I just lifted up my hand. No words necessary! A belly grab would have worked and I have also grabbed the treble hooks with a pair of pliers and tried to remove it that way. Tricky situation when they have multiple hooks embedded inside. Definitely going to look at a Boga grip for the boat.
  20. Me too. I have quit five times now...... Lately, my problem is that I buy a bunch of "new" colors and patterns to try and then find out that I have two or three of the same thing already. Must be getting old....
  21. New to this but I figured that I would give it a shot. Thanks!
  22. Good to hear. I am looking at trying a St. Croix or two in the near future. Nice catches!
  23. I know the feeling. Try to use it as a learning experience and enjoy being outdoors. I fish a weeknight (every other Tuesday) tournament in the eastern part of the state where I recently purchased a place on the lake. I prefished a couple of times and slayed them. The following Tuesday night, my partner was killing them and I couldn't buy a bite. Same places, same conditions, same baits but I started to get frustrated. Then I realized how I lucky I was to be out on the water and shooting the breeze with a friend. Now, I still caught some ribbing from my buddy on not catching fish but it turned out to be a good time. On the flip side, I fished a smaller lake that I previously had a tough go at it and changed up my technique. Most guys were beating the banks and I went to a C-rig on a small point. I couldn't keep the bass off of my bait and we pulled out a win.
  24. Good job. I am a little jealous. I went walking on the iced over creek yesterday with my son. lol I will have to add to my 2021 Goals list and try baits that I typically don't use. I tend to try something new for a few casts and then go back to a confidence bait. Tight lines!
