  1. I think Jimmy Houston once caught a bass on a spinnerbait. I might have just the thing for you in Maine. Nice fishing!
  2. I agree with the above. Maker’s Mark Cask Strength is excellent and Four Roses Small Batch or Single Barrel if you can find it in that price range is good. Four Roses Small Batch is a go-to for me now. Love that stuff.
  3. Felt like the appropriate thread to put this in. Is the Megabass PopMax the greatest trap the bait monkey has ever devised? I mean just look at these things Its like bait that came from a candy store
  4. Try some different things given the time that you have but there’s no need to run around everywhere if you don’t have a lot of time. You might find a hard spot or brushpile or rock pile on that submerged point using your electronics. That will be the sweet spot. The only problem I see is that is the most obvious point on this lake so if there are fish there, you are probably going to be fishing around other boats.
  5. What kind of unit do you have? When I am on a new body of water, the first thing I want to do is spend some time graphing. How long depends on the size of the lake. I want to get a feel for what's under the surface and where I'm seeing activity. You can't do that because you are fishing a new lake for the first time with your Dad and you want to find fish immediately. In your case, without prior time graphing, I look at a contour map and look at conditions which you took the time to provide here. I have to say, you put your fair share of work in here. All I'm looking for is some places that offer multiple options and a mix of deep and shallow, main lake and back into coves. I want to select some structures or cover that feel appropriate for the season and fish baits that traditionally do well during that time of year. We're in the middle of the summer, so it's hard to beat a worm when you're looking at new lake right now. You can upsize your weight in the summer too to cover a little more water. I for sure know that I would have a big ribbontail with 1/2oz texas rig tied on that I can use from 1' to 30'. I would launch at the marina and fish the marina, the submerged point to the Northeast, and fish the two coves at the Northwest of the lake in their entirety. The primary and secondary (and so on) points throughout those coves are definitely of interest. We're in summer so any shade is good and any evidence you have of prey species spawning is even better. Overhanging trees are good places to find a shallow bass wanting protection. Spend some time graphing that underwater point. It is very interesting. Good luck
  6. Rage lobster on a t-rig and jig. Really good results. Megabass PopMax. In bait monkey trouble here. Mission Fish 8” swimbait. No results yet but not enough time to make judgements and I’m patient with this one.
  7. @gimruis TX much better. Just let the gods of heat, sun, and fire know how you would like to be cooked, though. If you would like to be slow roasted, fried, baked, grilled, thrown into a crock pot, etc.
  8. The Strike King Lil Mr Money is a very good light spinnerbait with a head weight of 3/16oz
  9. Carp on popmax Catfish on a crankbait sitting on top of the water Catfish on many spinnerbaits Catfish on plastic worm Catfish on jig Catfish on crankbaits White bass and wiper on crankbaits and spinnerbaits Pike on everything Pickerel on everything Crappie on everything Perch on spinnerbait Trout on Rapala Shad Rap Flounder on a grub and jighead Sunfish on lots of stuff Drum on jigging spoons Rock bass… actually let’s just forget about those Some of this stuff is very common. Some of it might make you scratch your head
  10. @ol'crickety you can troll both. Yeah thread is a little quiet. We did good in NC but I’ve just been logging my reports in my own thread. I’m back in TX and Stillhouse Union Grove Ramp is back open. It’s one of the tougher areas for me to figure out but one of my favorites for night fishing. You know what that means Rumor has it that @thediscochef’s bank fishing conditions are about to get right, too.
  11. @Stan_The_Bass Union Grove Ramp is open if you were not already aware. It is the only ramp open.
  12. 7/11/2024 Private Lake solo kayak Water temps??? Winds E 5-8mph, overcast Last trip in NC on the private lake yielded a bunch of small bass and one big grass carp. Bass would not eat topwater but the carp sure did. Ol monster 1/2oz black grape, coda lures apex jig 3/8oz Sassy Chica Rage Lobster caught bass. The grass carp ate the same Baby Bass PopMax. Weird that the bass would not hit topwater on a still, overcast day. There were many bass hanging out underneath the small homeowner docks. The big dock on the lake produced no fish over leave. I have a feeling there is a very old wise bass or two dominating that dock. It’s the only explanation I can think of because that dock should be loaded. Best baits over this leave were the rage lobster and Megabass Popmax. Biggest bass 5.57lbs out of Ol Muddy. Very good leave! I learned a lot and will be bringing back some tricks to TX! I do think that fishing in TX has made me a better NC fisherman and I look forward to the next time I can see @Pat Brown, @FishTax, and @IcatchDinks!
  13. Bad photo quality. Grass carp
  14. I caught a carp. My first carp. Ate a popper. Is it cool?
  15. See above. Yes
  16. I will use an improved clinch when I want to tie a knot fast or when the bait has a bunch of treble hooks. I prefer the palomar, but on fluorocarbon you have to be very careful. It takes me a while to tie because I am pretty deliberate tying it. There is less to mess up with the improved clinch. I do believe the palomar is a stronger knot on every line type.
  17. I don’t feel like doing full reports so let’s just get this over with. Been fishing a ton. 7/9/2024 Badin solo kayak Weather conditions: wind generally from the south, hot and sunny 3 on jigs skipping docks. Slow bite but good quality 7/9/2024 Ol Muddy evening for 45 minutes Nothing 7/10/2024 Morning on Pat’s pond with @FishTax, @Pat Brown, and son. Pat got one on????? I think a frog? FishTax got one on a swim jig, I think he lost/missed a couple. I got one on spinnerbait, lost/missed couple on worms. Wind out of South generally, mostly cloudy 7/10/2024 Afternoon into evening One of Pat’s Lakes Jon Boat fishing. New lake to me. No change to conditions other than sunnier and wind picked up considerably. We caught the following on weightless plastics (Pat), jigs, and spinnerbaits (me):
  18. Zoom plum apple, scuppernong, tequila sunrise, cranberry, black grape I agree California 420 is a really great color as well, across multiple companies BLACK
  19. Beetlespin here too. I really don’t throw an 1/8oz much.
  20. I think Pat and Jake caught their very first bass at a pond today. Not sure though. That guy FishTax found one flopping in the bank and grabbed it for a photo, too @Pat Brown how was my report this time? 😁
  21. Haven’t been on it for a bit but I was using the park at the bridge to launch my kayak while ramps still closed. Had a buddy help carry ours twice. The other time I dragged it through the woods myself. Ain’t done much good since it flooded, but I am no expert. Some people catch em really good on that lake. Last year was great with the low water and thick hydrilla. We cannot complain. Needed rain sooner or later. If you see a grey Hobie Outback cruising around out there, come and say hello.
  22. Baitcasting I keep this rod in NC for when I visit family I don’t think I’ve had a fish come unbuttoned on this rod yet. It’s a little heavy and clumsy compared to what I’m used to, but dang, it works
  23. Maybe Ill see you out on Stillhouse and Belton when they reopen Welcome
  24. Actually no. Not for a few months. I agreed with Matt Allen? I take that back entirely
