  1. Building up speed in the kayak by pedaling and then gliding within casting distance of a spot I want to fish is one of my go-to tactics. I will occasionally turn off my electronics as well. My pedal drive developed a squeak a while back so I am getting a replacement part from Hobie covered by warranty… all to be a little quieter
  2. Today mostly spending time with family but trying to make it out to the private lake where I caught my PB for a couple hours. Tomorrow Jordan again with SHW and it will be the last day with SHW. Then, on to fish with the BR crew…
  3. Jordan 7/3/2024 Water temps 85 degrees, winds SE 3-8mph, mostly sunny, very high water clarity I once again went with SHW out in his boat. He has been fishing Jordan lake for 6 years, mostly out of a kayak with no electronics. We fished a lot of different stuff and ultimately caught 6 fish between the two of us, but they were all really small - 1lb or less. He caught 4 and I caught 2. 5 fish were on a shaky head and 1 fish was on the same ol monster setup I used at Badin. I’d fished Jordan 1 time years ago out of a kayak and I don’t think I caught anything. This was my first real chance to see more of Jordan and catch some fish out of there. I’ve come away from the experience thinking Jordan is an incredible lake with amazing populations of shad, bluegill, white perch, catfish and bass. It was rated #3 in the Southeast by Bassmaster recently, so it obviously is standing up to the angling pressure. I fished a couple of cypress trees for the first time and we fished a lot of rock and red clay points. I spent more time on teaching SHW how to use his electronics, too. I really need to fish this lake more!
  4. Thank you @Choporoz!
  5. Senkos were better for me about 3 years ago but they still catch fish well. My biggest problem with using a weightless senko whether it is weightless Texas style or wacky is I don’t think it is a bait that you can expect to catch numbers of big fish. It is a slow technique that will get inactive fish to bite, but not a bait that is easy to fish faster. I use it off the bank nowadays on fish that I am confident I have located and cannot get to bite other lures. Going to definitely experiment more with neko rigging one soon though.
  6. It’s a good color
  7. Badin 7/2/2024 Water temps 85 degrees, winds NE 1-8mph, bluebird skies and high pressure, very high water clarity. I fished with Shaky Head Wizard (SHW) today on his 17ft Jon Boat. This is not our first adventure on Badin in the month of July. SHW told me prior to this trip that he wanted to fish deep so we did some of that. Both of us could not resist fishing visible cover including water willows, docks, and laydowns so we did some of that, too. We caught 2 fish each. Both of us came away from the trip happy with the amount of water we covered but suspecting we should have spent significantly more time fishing docks. This is precisely what SHW heard was *supposed* to not be fishing well right now. He caught his fish on a shaky head off a dock and a laydown tree. I caught both mine on a zoom ol monster worm watermelon seed with the tail dipped in blue Spike-It. 1/2oz bullet weight. One was off the end of a dock (right behind SHW 😁) and one was way back into water willows. We could not get anything going deep. The fish I caught in the water willows I could not photo because my phone was overheated. It was a really fun fish to catch. I threw my ol monster back into the water willows out of desperation. We’d fished everything deep and shallow in the area, including the edge of the water willows. I started thinking I needed to pitch into thicker willows. That fish hit the worm before it could hit bottom and jumped my line all the way back to the spool. 2.5lb fish and my other was about 2lbs. Jordan Lake tomorrow! I have only fished on Jordan one time!
  8. 2 Badin today fishing on a boat with Shaky Head Wizard. 1/2oz zoom ol monster Texas rigged. Could not take photo of one because phone was overheating. Shaky head wizard caught 2 as well. Pretty slow day but we made do
  9. Hold my beer
  10. Best: spinnerbait fishing Worst: fluke and jerkbait fishing
  11. I’ve had two cigars in my life. Both were gifted to me. The first was from a friend who knows cigars well. He got me one he thought I would like for someone who doesn’t smoke. It was not a gas station cheap cigar. I absolutely loved it. It was a really nice smoke. I don’t know the name of it. The other was a cheap gas station cigar and I did not like it at all. So I decided if I’m going to ever buy a cigar for myself, I better choose wisely.
  12. Regular Gamakatsu hooks are lighter wire and are not built to withstand straight braid and a big rod. Mustad Grip Pins are a little heavier and flex less, but with straight braid and a big rod like that, I would go to Gamakatsu superlines. One of the biggest game changers in my worm fishing was when I found out that Gamakatsu made their offset round bend hooks in a superline. I could use a small hook for a thin bait that is still incredibly strong. Really sorry you lost this fish though
  13. Welcome! I’ve spent a good bit of time in Missouri and I’ve been in Columbia, but it wasn’t for bass fishing 😅. Beautiful area though. I like quite a few things about Missouri. Y’all have incredibly distinct seasons over there! Here in TX, we don’t know what those are! 😄
  14. I started playing around with the VMC Redline Flipping Hooks and they are mighty nice
  15. Yep Oldham’s skip just fine. Even a 3/4 with a flappy trailer will get under there.
  16. Great pick. Mike is one of the most professional, succinct posters here. Been obvious to me that he respects his time and others’ time.
  17. Three lures would be spinnerbait, Texas rig, and jig
  18. It’s the only thing you changed. Sounds like it’s the combo
  19. 5 speed for spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and swimbaits 6 speed all other moving baits 7 speed bottom contact or baits you work primarily with your rod
  20. Coda Lures Apex All-Purpose Jig. Pretty tough for me to recommend jig weights and colors just based on the fact that you want to fish docks. If you want for easier skipping though, use 3/8oz. A z hog skips well as a trailer, but I skip Z craws, Rage Craws, Rage Lobsters, and more. I don’t really care. For me, Jig fishing is second only to spinnerbait fishing. Docks are my favorite cover to fish. Skipping docks with a jig is darn fun, and many people just don’t skip a jig well on a baitcaster or don’t care for it.
  21. @PhishLI what a piece of poop
  22. How does a hula girl on crack fight? What’s her signature move?
  23. Just use regular hooks. You could use some red Spike-It though
  24. @Woody B swim area around Union Grove Park on Stillhouse is a known fishing spot.
