  1. Gosh yeah. I love fishing pads. Working a soft plastic in them, just dropping it next to them could be effective. A spinnerbait or swim jig through lily pads is what I cut my teeth on fishing in NY during the warmer months.
  2. I forgot to add. I don’t think you can punch mats with the no-jack jig very well and I used to do that with 1oz and 1.5oz hack attacks. For an alternative for that, look at Oldham’s eyemax jigs That’s a great jig also. I used to use a bunch of those
  3. Hey y’all, I used to be a big fan of the Hack Attack flipping jigs but at some point I purchased some and the weedguard design was different. I did not like it. I can’t say if all of them have switched to the new design. But, I have found the Dirty Jigs No-Jack Flipping Jig to be a viable alternative. Head design is pretty close. Weed guard design is perfect. And the hook is still a gaff, same as the hack attack jigs. So, if you are looking for an alternative to the Hack Attack Jigs, I recommend the No-Jack Flipping Jig.
  4. I’ve found a full-sized brush hog to be a good soft plastic in muddy water, especially in the spring or fall
  5. Stay over it. I don’t like the sound of a thin mat of weeds. Doesn’t sound like it’s tall enough to hold fish
  6. Only thing I will recommend is to keep your weights lighter. An 1/8oz works well in these kind of bottoms. Jigs should be light too. For reasons I can’t explain, I have never done well on heavy weights in muck.
  7. If the line doesn’t twist or cross itself anywhere and snugged down by pulling tag end first and then mainline, I don’t know where your issues are coming from. It’s been a super strong fluoro knot for me.
  8. Pretty much same, here. Ever since I switched to the palomar, it’s been highly effective on all types of line at all diameters. I used to use the improved clinch and it works fine too, but the palomar is just a better performing knot overall. Especially with fluoro and braid.
  9. Zoom mag 2 worm. Try colors black, plum apple, or watermelon seed gamakatsu 3/0 round bend offset worm hook 1/8oz weights 1/2oz weights texas rigged Rebel Pop R in white and black (bone and last call) Humdinger Colorado/willow spinnerbaits
  10. I modify many lures in some fashion. Don’t even get me started on spinnerbaits
  11. I’m going to play devil’s advocate because why not. I bet you it catches fish. I bet it’s not too shabby. Is it better than the myriad of other rigging options we have at any given time? Who knows.
  12. Sure, why not. If you ain’t bothered by it then do it. I really am struggling to understand why the ‘ethics’ of using a live bass to hook bass are any different than using live bluegill to hook bass. Bass are sometimes cannibals and there’s nothing we can do to change that.
  13. You know, I’ve always heard pre-frontal can be excellent. Sometimes it is. I do like to fish during those times. But just as often, I’ve seen an incoming front shut fish down. I don’t like really high barometric pressure. Never really seen a scenario where that’s turned out to be good.
  14. Matt Allen is the human incarnation of the bait monkey
  15. Stillhouse completely shut down. It is 16ft high. https://www.kcentv.com/article/news/local/bell-county/stillhouse-hollow-lake-parks-and-campground-indefinite-closure-may-24-2024/500-710e3777-b316-4445-b24a-0f5f1b0c1b07
  16. I recommend holding larger bass by the corner of their mouth and keeping them with this grip in the water until you have your scale ready to weigh. If you have a net, refer to @A-Jay’s vids on what he does. I don’t use a net. Weigh them, return them to the water. Take a couple quick photos if necessary, return to the water. When letting a bass recuperate in the water before your final release, there is no need to do a whole bunch of crazy motions trying to get them to swim. They know how to swim. Just let them rest in your hand until they are ready, then release your grip and they will swim away every time.
  17. Hey y'all, This is admittedly a topic I understand very little about. How will bass react to current in a reservoir while the dam is letting out water? How does this change with the seasons? How does it affect their positioning? How does it affect shad?
  18. Well admittedly, when I have located isolated cover, I will target this as well. It is sometimes difficult to fish this stuff without getting marked. Just the other day I was fishing an isolated patch of timber in deep water and someone took the time to circle me and mark the timber.
  19. Roll Call Please report Who likes to fish heavy cover? Who likes to throw a frog way up into the bushes? Who likes that screeching, squealing sound when you hook one under a mat? Yes, I am a structure fisherman but the heaviest cover on structure is my whole deal. Who agrees?!
  20. The hydrilla has taken a bit of a toll due to all the rain. I don’t have any guesses on how it will grow once things stabilize but it is definitely too turbid right now. The hydrilla definitely helps and to be a good fishing place, it needs to stay. But, there is a good amount of timber in Stillhouse for the fish to relate to while we are in this crazy period.
  21. The storms were a doozy and continued into this morning. We were in tornado warning for the evening and unfortunately one did touch ground and some were not so lucky… We haven’t had hail since the 12th, that Im aware of. As far as the individual storms, I’m having trouble keeping track of them all
  22. I will be over this Memorial weekend I sure as heck ain’t dealing with all the people during the day
  23. @Mobasser Missouri is the driest heat I’ve experienced. We get some humidity here where I’m at in TX, but it is nothing compared to farther East and the East coast in general. Heat in general sucks, but I was in Missouri when it was constant triple digits a couple years back and it was not bad at all.
