Tips for fishing at night
That's some UFO type stuff right there. Course I always thought @Pat Brown might be a nice alien No amount of mental preparation can prepare you for the swarm of mosquitos you will encounter if you choose to fish a lighted marina at night

Who throws a Spinnerbait in Summer?
Summertime is the worst time of year to fish a spinnerbait if you are looking for really big fish and fishing shallow. It will still catch quality, but seldom a truly big bass. I started fishing spinnerbaits using the most uncommon blade combinations. The first spinnerbaits I fished were single colorado's and double indianas. I struggled in the summer until I started fishing a compact bait with a willow main blade. In the summer if you are fishing shallow and just want to catch bass on a spinnerbait, you want 1. Compact bait 2. Willow main blade There are some exceptions to the rule. I fished unpressured ponds in NY in the summer and usually whacked em on a compact single colorado, but those fish hadn't seen as many baits. I am exploring using really large double willows to catch suspended bass in standing timber or rolling them deep for a bigger bite, but honestly I believe the best window for that is over. Seems like an early summer tactic. The best times of year to fish a spinnerbait for LMB IMO are early winter/late fall, early prespawn, and early postspawn. From early winter-early prespawn I think a spinnerbait is a hugely underrated bait for trophy size bass. You can catch em on it when water temps are in the 40s.

- So what all do you guys attach to spinner baits?
I like either nothing, a split tail trailer, a yum pulse swimbait trailer, a power worm trailer, a cut down trick worm, a cut down magnum trick worm, or a grub. Lots of stuff works. I choose trailers to make the spinnerbait behave differently or to add size and attraction.- Persistence if you know a fish is there?
I found it. Everybody and their mother is probably fishing it now. Since this spot is now in the public eye, would you mind sharing with us why you think this spot is so good? How did you find this spot? Was it by accident? Did you notice it in map study? Did you immediately start catching large bass there or did it take a few trips? If it took longer, why did you stick with it? As I've structure fished longer, I kind of suspected without you explicitly saying it that "camping" on one spot does not mean never moving. I suspected that from a message you sent me in PM a while back. Just kinda hints on what you look for.- The Hawg Hunters
I am still on the DD hunt this year after many roadblocks. Transducer and my pedal drive both needed to be replaced. I got both of them done recently through warranty, but the pedal drive took about 2 months. On top of that, Stillhouse my home lake was both closed and severely flooded. Things are really starting to stabilize out and with all my gear back to normal, I stand a chance. November and December are the two months I’m going to hit very hard. This is a deal where I could accomplish my goal with only days left in the year. December is a great month to trophy hunt. In the meantime I’m trying some unorthodox stuff. I’ll be giving cranking through standing timber a lot more playtime.- Confidence Lure/ Style
Lures are tools. Some of them work in a wider range of situations than others. A Texas jig, spinnerbait, and jig are year-round producers that can be thrown into a variety of cover. I tend to have more confidence with these lures as a result. This year I’ve experimented with more lures than in years past. I believe it’s set me up for more long-term success. I am best with a spinnerbait and jig- Frogs - what am I doing wrong??
@Catt I have not. You have not put the bait monkey on me but I promise you have just put a massive bait monkey on @Pat Brown. He won’t be able to resist that thing- Frogs - what am I doing wrong??
Astutely* It’s okay. I’m here for you.- Frogs - what am I doing wrong??
A ribbit or toad or whatever gurgling bait you choose cannot pause in place, walk, or bounce up and down. What fun is that?- Frogs - what am I doing wrong??
@CattOh, yeah, the Stanley Ribbit. Umm, well, I wasn’t really talking about that. I was just channeling my inner frog.- Frogs - what am I doing wrong??
I have only a couple things to add to this thread Ribbit Ribbit- Coping with chronic heart ache ~
A-Jay you both will keep doing whatever it takes. It’s nice to hear from you. Even in the midst of this, it’s easy to tell you are still counting your blessings. I wish better health to y’all!- Spinnerbait!
@ol'crickety PM me your address if you would like some spinnerbaits that should do very well for your Maine bass. I have much less use for them here in TX.- Spinnerbait!

Fishing with the BR crew definitely let me see some different baits than I’m used to. Pat throwing poop baits, creature baits on drop shots, tricked out buzzbaits, flukes, and more. ICatchDinks throwing mepps, that craw crankbait, other Northern creek finesse. FishTax throwing a mini swim jig. I like to think that my bait selection was very ‘Texan’.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
@IcatchDinks I think she’s hitting on you 😍- My issues with a closed mind while fishing
Everyone seems to be finding it easiest to just share what they like to do in the hopes that it will help OP so I’ll follow suit. If I don’t know what the fish are doing, I like to create a plan with a bunch of backup plans. I don’t have a set time for when I start to rotate through my backup plans. If it feels wrong, I’ll start doing something different. If I feel I know what the fish are doing, I’ve certainly been known to live or die with a lure or two. I usually only do that when I’ve been on the water frequently and feel I have a pulse to what’s going on.- Slack Line Opinion
I engage the spool once the bait hits bottom or when a fish bites, whichever comes first. You can still detect bites while it is falling. I do a lot of tip sweeping that @MN Fisher describes too.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Uh… yeah…. $100 swimbaits. That ain’t me, dawg I was close to getting the black orchid PopMax after you endorsed it though - So what all do you guys attach to spinner baits?
