  1. Need a little more info... What is the model of the reel?
  2. The TD1 series of reels are a discontinued series. Meaning none of the major parts are being produced anymore for support. The only parts that are still available, would be the smaller parts that can interchange with the newer TD series reels.Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  3. HEG's are only found in the 200 series. But you answered your own question... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  4. Try this read.............. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1194655470
  5. Escalade... That isn't a regular on the Quantum lineup. So I would assume it is a store model produced by Quantum for this kind of sale. I would watch out, as many of these kinds of reels (re-brands, signature series, and house brands) are not supported by the manufacturer.. Good luck & Tight Lines !!
  6. Winterizing: Remove the reel from the rod, back the drags off on the reel, store the reel in a dry tube sock until ready to service/have serviced the reel. Rods should be cleaned and checked for any damage and repaired, then stored verticaly in a rack or hung buy the tiptop, (again without reels), Basic Care and Maintenance Tips. Store inside (do not expose graphite rods to extreme cold temps they are not ice rods, even if it doesn't damage the blank, it will damage the epoxy that holds the reel seats and grips to the blank).
  7. I posted this once before for those reels that I don't service.. Click Here....Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair Tight Lines!!!
  8. Gidget Welcome to the forum!
  9. ghoti, You got it..Good job... Like I stated on another thread about Quantum® reels... There are much better lubricants out there than Hot Sauce......
  10. lubina, You got it bud..Good job... Except one thing, there are much better lubricants out there than Hot Sauce.
  11. Ryan_Johnson, Well welcome to the forum! All of the manufacturers that I service (Garcia, Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum) build quality reels, and there are really no reasons to stay away from any of their products. The reason for most reel failures isn't the manufacturer fault, it is lack of individual maintenance on the anglers side. Buy a 150 dollar reel and think it can be used and treated like a 60 dollar reel, and it will hold up just like one. Treat it with the respect that the high end reels of today deserve and it will out live the angler. Just my .02¢
  12. What it really is, is the max drag settings you can get with the installed drag pad system, and that any drag setting over that toward direct drive, will add to much back torque and injure the one-way roller clutch. You also have the rod to worry about..As stated before setting drag pressure at 1/3 line strength, is the proper use of the drag systems... Just my .02¢ Tight Lines All!! "But not to tight"
  13. ....... Coffee all over the key board now....
  14. The whole thing stems from this paragraph in the story.. : Definition of free-spool casting reel; "Baitcaster".. It's not that he is using the reel in free spool so much, as it is that he is using a free-spooling baitcaster (an old school term). I'm sure he has it setup (fine tuned) for the weight of his baits and the distance he wants to cast under the overhangs, or that the reels cast control has been setup, and the brakes on the reel are also setup... Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!!
  15. haven't seen a post from the guy since Nov. 12th, think he has used any of the suggestion. :-?
  16. What you hear is the sound of working metal reel parts via an empty metal spool.
  17. I hardly upgrade at all anymore. But watching all of you trying to keep up (like mice in a maze), is sure a lot of fun...... Tight Lines!!!!
  18. Yeah the best way to set it up is go to a quiet room, and adjust the CC Cap free enough to get a good rotation out of the free spool, and keep adjusting it so you hear no spool shaft hitting (taping) the metallic spool shaft shims. This gives you the factory starting point for max free spool, and the ability to tighten from there. That is how I set all BC reels that I service before they leave my shop... Tight Lines!!!
  19. Yeah, you have the free spool tension (cast control cap) set to lose... The factory ZERO setting is when the CC cap is adjusted so that there is NO side to side play in a free spool. You can go tighter from that point but should never go loser than that. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  20. The symptoms he has posted are that of older Quantum AR bearing packs that are dirty with old grease and oils... In all honesty the easy fix would be if he new how, would be to deep clean and properly re-lube the AR bearing pack.. If it hasn't been injured (cracked or broken) it should cure the problem. Tight Lines!!!!!
  21. Sounds like it is time to have the reel serviced. The easy fix would be to buy a new reel.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  22. dsaavedra, I would say yes as long as it doesn't have a ported or drilled spool. But that doesn't mean you don't have to maintain the reel every time you do use it in a salty situation.Tight Lines!!!
  23. Just got off the phone with Shimano, before anything starts here. Sorry folks: DPV = D series Power Version DSV= D series Salt Version DPV: D Series reel, PV the Power Version (special power paddles for reel heavy crank'in also used on the DSV) The_Jake, The ad for the citica uses the term deep spool version because it has a larger capacity spool but it has nothing to do with the designators. Tight Lines All!!!!
  24. I agree 100% dodgeguy. IMPO no matter the manufacturer, ported, drilled, whatever you want to call them, spools with holes can be detrimental to spool support bearing packs, and internal crank assembles in fresh and saltwater systems.Tight Lines!!!!
