  1. X2 If it does show fibers replace that guide now....If the guides on the rod are ok then I would check the reels line carriage shock ring next. If ok there walk out about 30' of line and check for intermitant bad spots. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  2. Been discussed 100's of time here.... go here.......http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/99316-help-me-understand-super-tuning/?hl=%2Bsuper+%2Btunning#entry1093839 Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  3. Ok as a custom builder. Wrap masking tape around the area to be cut, use a high tooth count hacksaw blade, or dremel with cutoff wheel. Cutting the rod back a full 8" will give you a 6'4" MH/XXF a medium heavy extra extra fast tip, it will not change the rod power rating MH, just the tip action IMO to very stiff. It could now be a very good jig rod... FYI: according to the Shimano website the Sellus casting rods have a 1yr warrenty from date of purchase. http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/customer_service0/Rod_Warranty.html Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  4. X3 Only I would replace #73 with the crank shaft #56.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  5. There is no BEST. It has and always will be a matter of personal preferances. Also depends on the ability of the reel owner to setup properly the reel.. Tight Lines!
  6. Anything with an 01 designation is a must...
  7. X2 When I first started (85) the wife would smak me all the time. I would sit up in bed trying to service reels in my sleep Tight Lines All!
  8. Never brake a reel down without the schematic in front of you.. As Mike (DVT) and I stated, it is the number 1 rule in reel servicing.... Glad you found the trouble.. Tight Lines!
  9. You might try getting your hands on an older reel dedicated for flipping. Shimano Bantam Brush Buster 10 Tight Lines!
  10. Starting point, I would recommend getting the schematic out and checking the way you stacked the crank assembly. Leave one washer out in the drag spring part of the stack, thats between the AR bearing pack and the drag star, and the crank will sometimes bind when the drag star is adjusted tight. Never brake a reel down without the schematic in front of you.. Good Luck & Tight Lines
  11. Thanks Bro. Copper would look great on anything but the D, I have a black D remember..... Now a 4600c or 5600c w/stock spool would be nice... 01's would be better....
  12. IMPO I have never seen any Garcia LP reels worth that much. Now a great custom (chromed/painted with all the upgrades) Garcia round reel I would consider that....... Tight Lines!
  13. Currently using a custom Avid (SC3) 7'6" ML/XF w/BPS MLE25F mounted....
  14. Hey bigbill, Might not be the rod (MedHvy/Fast tip), but the line uptake from the reel. The line uptake might not be fast enough to turn the head after a long distance hookset. I would check the GR's of your spinning reels and adjust to using the fastest. Unless your rod happens to be a MedHvy/Moderate tip, that tip would be to sluggish for long distance hooksets. Just another angle... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  15. Yup ya have to watch out for the ratchet piece's, and the little toothy sprockets and other thingies. If you haven't and the quantum was your practice reel I would send it off for a proper first time servicing.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  16. Yup have had the reel foot brake off of spinning reels using, no stretch lines, heavy drag setups, and stiff rod tips...... My fix was going back to mono, on proper action rods, with proper drag setups...
  17. Now thats beautiful work he did Capt. Bob, you can always tell when the proper hands have worked a rod....
  18. I would recommend you check the local listings or local brick/mortor tackle shop for a custom rod builder. If no success there, try here...http://www.tackleworks.org/ for a possible listing of a rod builder in your area. I personally would not mess a rack rod up with this kind of change, instead I would have a rod built the way I want it... Good Luck
  19. Try becoming efficent with both spinning and baitcasting... you have more techniques you can cover, being really good with both.... Good luck & Tight Lines!
  20. Yes there are 2 ways. Both a lot of work....
  21. Looking at the schematics of the 2 reels The 5600WS (wiffle spool), and stock 5600c4. The WS is the same basic design and bearing count as the 5600c4, just less the palming plate line clicker and, the spool design. I would assume the demensions are basically the same between the reels.. Tight Lines!
