  1. Back a few yrs Low Budget Hooker asked me about a Tenn. grip that wasn't really a Tenn. grip Here is a look at just what can be done with the old Tenn styling...
  2. Just about all of the spinning rods in my arsenal, and all of the rods in the boss' arsenal are Ten. Grips. This one is almost 10 yrs old... [br] But this grip style is lighter... Tight Wraps Builders! 8-)
  3. As Ron stated it's doable. But just the fact that your working from the back of the blank calls for some advanced rod building experience. I have 15+ yrs experience, and I would talk the client out of this mod, and onto a build with what is wanted on a spinning rod. Use of the rodbuilders.org search engine will put you on some of the best information. Good Luck....
  4. X2 Up close and personal t-rigging/jigs, spinnerbaits. I have a few 6'6" MH custom avids that I like for t-riggs (don't throw many jigs any more), and spinnerbaits.. Tight lines!
  5. Not necessarily so. Spine: Or "Effective Spine" is an effect created by several manufacturing anomalies. The result is that the rod blank will favor bending along a particular axis when load is applied. Any custom builder worth working with (more than a hobbyist) uses the spine. Tight Wraps! 8-)
  6. Easy way to tell is pull the spool out of the reel with the line still on. Hold the spool edges with one hand and pull the tag end of the braid. If the braid comes off then you need to re-spool tighter. If not then you probably have flattened out the 2 spring washers in the crank stack. They should look like this stacked...() Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  7. Yup the II system has the new rings and new colors......
  8. Have been using/recommending them for rack and custom rods without keepers since their ***. The older ones had the o-ring problems in the beginning, but that was solved on the new E-Z Keeper systems.. Comes with 2 UV proof O-rings. Never had a problem with the systems at all... Tight Lines!!
  9. It is all personal preference. Both reels would be good for the technique you describe. Tight Lines!!
  10. It's all because of the dampening qualities of foregrips... 8-)
  11. I disagree with your opinion. My Stella is worth every penny. If I had the disposable income to replace all of my spinning reels with Stellas I'd do it in a heartbeat. In terms of the ugly green reel in the original post...man that thing is hideous! Yup you sure would need a lot of disposable income. I have been into a lot of the Shimano SP reels and IMPO you will not find $700.00 worth of parts or quality in them either.. Tight Lines!
  12. The new rule of thumb is any reels over 6 yrs of age are discontinued and parts support is curtailed. Many reels over 10 yrs of age will not have the major parts available for them, mostly the parts available will be crossover parts.. Best bet is to contact the MFG first then the large parts houses, then finding a suitable reel for parts. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  13. Have serviced a lot of Daiwa's in my 27 yrs of servicing reels, and there ISN'T any spinning reel made that is worth that kind of money... Tight Lines!!
  14. Been cranking lefty since the 80's I use my power right hand to handle the rod work, and, my left hand for the crank. Tight Lines & Quick Hook Sets!
  15. They are so light that they have nothing to do with spool balance. But you certainly need a well educated thumb.. Tight Lines!
  16. When building for the tourney angler I use the best. St Croix blanks. Don't have to worry much from the everyday weekend angler, but when challenged by one for pricing I will estimate rod prices with the Baston RX6 & 7 blanks. Tight Wraps! 8-)
  17. Oh but it does exist in the E series Curado's.It is called the Assist Stopper.. Part Number BNT2404 It is probably over greased in your reel and it is causing the blades to stick to the return ratchet plate and lift to high and release. Clean the grease out of that section and re-adjust the blades grip on the ratchet plate. There should be enough tension (grip) that it lifts the dog slightly and doesn't let it drop until the crank has stopped turning. That piece backs up the one-way bearing pack (IAR) Tight Lines!
  18. Yup sure do......... As a 15 yr custom builder. IMPO if your getting into rod building, it would be worth your while to visit the rod building forum for your answers. You can ask the questions directly to the Baston crew... RodBuilding.org http://rodbuilding.org/list.php?2 Tight Wraps! 8-)
  19. Try this link http://www.antiquefishingreels.info/FAQbrands.htm Scroll down to Q2 Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  20. Ripped from the forum.. That Is Not A Recall! It is an A Typical Warranty issue replacement. Tight Lines!
  21. What forum? Have been servicing fishing reels for over 25 yrs now, have never heard of any reel recall for any MFG. Seems to me if there was an actual recall of reels it would be posted on the MFG website, under news. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  22. In my drying box I have a pair of Flex Coat 6RPM motors. Tight Wraps!
  23. I have 15 bags in all, each set-up to a specific lake/technique, and species...Buy what you need......... Tight Lines!!!
  24. In all actuality I think Rick was talking ergonomics, and system weight. I don't think he was talking same rod and gear ratio for all applications. He is more old school than that.... Tight Lines!
  25. I have seen pricing from $200 down to $150.. Tight Lines!
