  1. I agree with BA, 3 seconds seems a little long to me for a buzzbait. However, I tried fishing a frog last night for the first time and I wasn't waiting nearly long enough. Excellent article!
  2. I'm happy to hear the good reports. I just bought some today...before I read this thread
  3. I have several ML's, not St Croix rods though, and I use them for lighter spinners, smaller jigs, etc. I have even used a 5' Rapala ultralight with 10# braid on it for catching bass. That's fun!
  4. I know what you mean about them biting off leaders. I was at the river the other morning, actually fishing for LM bass among the laydowns etc and had a sluggo on a mono leader. I tie swivels to the main line and then make mono leaders so the plastic doesn't twist, also makes for quick changes. Anyway, bait starts moving sideways, I set the hook and all I had left was 6" of empty mono. Bitten off clean. I switched to a white spinner and got a nice northern. He managed to mangle a brand new spinner though. I had braid on that rod and had no trouble getting him to the bank.
  5. Actually, I did have the Premier scanned. it said $99.99
  6. I am having a similar problem at my local pond. Several weeks ago I was slaying them. Now it's one now and again. I don't know if they are too used to seeing the same stuff thrown at them, I do use plastic a lot and try new things all the time, or if it is just weather conditions. I've often wondered how long it takes before a bass forgets some of the stuff he's previously been caught on. Anybody know??
  7. I was looking for a MH spinning and settled on the Salt Striker series. Even though it is a salt water rod it felt better, lighter, and more balanced than the freshwater counterpart. I broke the tip off of it, my fault, while trying to undo a snag. I didn't return it, just glued a new tip on it.
  8. Unfortunately there are no Avids to be had at my nearest Dick's. :'( And the other models ain't on sale....I asked!
  9. What does shaking have to do with it :-?
  10. big game fish, say Muskie, Pike, etc, with a heavy rod and an Abu Garcia 5600CB, some casting, some trolling, am I better off with say 50# braid or should I use heavy mono? Do I need the "give" in mono to take up the shock? I might also use this set up for heavier lures for big bass, like the Storm kickin' minnow or other 1ounce+ lures.
  11. What is the weight I should use for 10# test line? Would that be 2 1/2 pounds to be at 25%? 7 pounds for 70% seems like a lot of dead weight to be testing. I'm not sure I'd want to subject my rod to that. Maybe I'm not understanding the testing procedure fully? :-?
  12. I tie a hangman's noose. The more pull, the tighter the knot. It doesn't slip on the arm.
  13. Ya mean this one? http://www.bluespringsmarine.com/index.php?PAGE_ID=25
  14. Never had any luck on any Storm swim baits.
  15. Looks like it is probably disassembled from the handle side. But I don't know for sure. The oiling diagram could be a tad more specific.
  16. Uh oh, Davis, now you've done it. You let that bait monkey out of his cage. ;D
  17. Fishermen! ;D
  18. I ordered mine last Friday. Brown pulled into the driveway Tuesday morning. I actually wasn't expecting it that quickly.
  19. Does anyone use or have any overall opinions of the Shimano Clarus rods?
  20. That's my understanding.
  21. I've got my rebate form to send in as well. Picked up the Ambassadeur 5600CB at the same time, on sale, for $60.00. I thought that was a good price as well. I have a 7' MH Musky rod I'm going to mount it on. I wonder if I can get 10 bucks off both reels?
  22. My Abu Garcia Revo SC from Cabelas arrived. Wow, very nice reel! Now, what shall I put under it?
  23. Good deal . I went to my local Dick's and they didn't have any St. Croix rods at all
  24. Westpalmdude, I can assure you, I have more than 3 of them. I only took 3 with me that evening. I have originals, jointed, shads, DT's, x-raps, etc. and sizes from 3 to 11, maybe bigger. Makes me wonder what I was thinking when I kept buying when I have no success with them. Hoping I would buy the magic Rapala, I guess.
  25. Last evening, I went to our local pond, where I know there are bass, with only 2 rods and 3 Rapalas. I took an original silver, a blue gill shad rap and a silver blue x-rap. I thought I would only take these 3 lures and learn to fish them. And you know what?..........SKUNKED, zip, nada, nyet, nuttin'. > I just can't figure out how to fish them. I tried waiting after the cast, reeling immediately after the cast, slow retrieves, fast retrieves, half-fast, pauses, jerks, steady, you name it, I did it. What am I doing wrong? I wish I had the money I spent on these things. my mistake I guess, I shouldn't have bought so many up front. The only thing hooked is me
