  1. Wife was grumpy about the house being cold...so I picked up one of these to check temps, find places where insulation could be better, drafts, etc. Of course I get myself in trouble...she complains it's cold...I bust out the temp gun, shoot the wall, and loudly proclaim "it's the same d**n temp it's been in this house for the past 3 months..." Then I duck, cause I know a projectile is headed my way! : )
  2. Yep. I now bring a laser temp gauge and check on every stop.
  3. Not a boat trailer, but an ATV trailer. About 5 years ago we borrowed trailer and two ATV's from my wife's ex husband...to take their boys on a trip to Colorado. It's an 8 hour drive from Nebraska to the mountains...trailer was his company trailer, he said it was good to go! Drove all the way to Colorado, spent 5 days ATV-ing...drove almost all the way home. Never checked the bearings once. We are literally 5 miles from home and driver flags me down...said my trailer tire was a wobbling....yep, it was. And about ready to fall off. I felt horrible, how could I let this happen? Wife's Ex is a great guy, said it wasn't my fault...his employee had not done the bearing re-pack. And he didn't double check the work. We got the ATV's off and axle replaced. Company paid for all the repairs. I have been super-diligent with bearings ever since. I do not want that to happen again! All of my trailers have bearing buddies (boat) or the EZ-lube axles (ATV trailer, 5th wheel). I pull them apart, inspect and/or re-pack every year.
  4. I have done a lot of research on electric vehicles...I am not a fan. Not as environmentally friendly as advertised Huge batteries requiring loads of rare minerals What happens to batteries when you are done? Range Capability (i.e., towing a 12,000lb. 5th wheel?) Access to charging stations They are cool. They are super fast. Don't see one in my future any time soon.
  5. I run two credit cards and purchase everything using them. I also pay both off, in full, every month. Wife is ticked because my credit score is higher than hers : ) Why a credit card vs, debit card? I someone gets a hold of my debit card, they can drain my bank account. If someone gets a hold of my credit card, I call and report the issue, and no charges to me...new card issued. Credit card interest is currently @ ~20%....OUCH! Save your $$$, buy the boat you want...you will not have any regrets.
  6. I keep fishing with my 30 year old Shimano reels.... Because I know that if I were to purchase just one new, high-end reel...I would be quickly replacing all my reels(!)
  7. My wife thinks I'm a weirdo / crazy for not drinking coffee...but my reply to her is always: "I may be crazy...but I've been like this all my life....you choose to be with me...who is really the crazy one" HA!
  8. I have had exactly one cup of coffee in my life....exchange student got me an iced coffee...I had to drink it...ick. Used to drink caffeinated soda like it was water as a youngster and in to high school. Noticed the high's and low's...so swapped out to caffeine free...then quit soda/pop all together in college. About all I drink is water with the occasional adult beverage maybe once a month. I'm a morning person and generally up and going before sunrise.
  9. Fished with a buddy up in Washington back in the 1990's...water was "gin-clear," we could see the bottom at 20 ft. Crazy! We didn't catch a darn thing. Water around her has 10-12" visibility. I am amazed fish can find lures in this stuff...
  10. Flooded timber, lots of moss, some weed beds, and rip-rap.
  11. Shop called today, got the old Merc squared away. Carburetor issue was a stuck needle / seat. He went ahead and installed the carb kit I purchased a few years back, but never got around to. Said good thing I got it in...lots of water in the lower unit. All squared away with new seals, water impeller...good to go. Said the pull rope was in great shape. No need to replace. $520 Heading to pick it up after work today.
  12. Most of my big-ticket items get used regularly. My bigger problem is "low-ticket" items -- have lots of Gore-Tex coats, pants, bibs, waaaay more than I need. This is one high-ticket item that gets used a lot. Do I really need diesel x750 for 3 acres of grass? Probably not...but it sure is fun mowing and moving snow!
  13. They were ~4 months old at the time...the lab is close to 80lbs now...the Shiba ~18lbs.
  14. Yep, they are changing the impeller. I changed it two years ago for the first time since getting the boat in 2000(!)
  15. So interesting to listen to stories from around the nation (and the world). Here in Nebraska, I live just outside of Omaha, on 3 acres. I have my own fresh water well on property...as much water as I need or want from the Ogallala Aquifer. Just pay for the electricity to run the pump. Water is tested regularly, no odor, tastes good. Here is a screen shot of Google maps, south central Nebraska. Each circle represents a center-pivot irrigation sitting on top of a fresh water well. Growing lots of corn, soybeans, milo, etc. County roads are laid out every mile...so 4 center pivots per mile, roughly.
  16. Army Corp on the upper Missouri river system could use some adjustments. Like @TnRiver46 our dams were originally built for flood control. Record snow fall in 2011, and mis-management by the Corps lead to record flooding. Mother Nature is relentless...and just when you think you have her figured out, patterned, or under control...she unleashes her fury!
  17. Visited Moab in 2017 and 2018...wife wants to go back this May. I like...

Lots of nicknames in my world: Me: Daubs, Pudge, Wookie (wife's boys call me this...) Wife: Red Daughters: Nin and Yecksa (how they pronounced their names when they were really small). Also call them, Turd, Sweet Girl, and bucket-of-snot Wife's boys: Chicken-Wing, and Nuggs or Nugget We also have nicknames for other things My Duramax: wife calls it "Precious" (as in Lord of the Rings) Wife's car: Scoob-a-roo (Subaru Outback). Daughters car: Rex Other Daughter's car: Flynn Wife's boys car: Clifford 1979 Lawn Boy push mower: Frank...as in Frankenstien, or Franken-mower, because it's put together from many different mowers, and just won't die. Wife hates it...I love it! Must keep living! Our 5th wheel RV: Prancer, after the Tartan Prancer from the new Vacation movie. 2005 Accord: Taco. Have no idea where the wife got this one...but it has stuck!
  19. How bout a dog pic??
  20. Improved Trilene knot for pretty much everything. It's this...then take the tag end and go back through the big open loop. Been using this for braid, mono, & fluoro for 30 years.
  21. Well, the easy answer for me, would be a largemouth bass that weighs about 28+ lbs. Caught while fishing in my Lund boat, with G. Loomis rod, Shimano reel, PowerPro braid, Trilene steel leader (do they make those??), on a Bass Pro giant spinner bait (gotta work BP in there somewhere....10 years ago it would have been Cabela's...). My boat would have Garmin electronics & trolling motor, Plano storage, and all the goodies. Pulled by my Silverado, running on BFG AT's. Oh, and I would be wearing Huk and Under Armour clothing, Costa sunglasses, and a Shelta hat. Just think of the endorsement opportunities and appearance fees that would come rolling in : ) If I'm being totally honest, I would rather catch a world-record Musky. That's just me.
  22. Nebraska Game and Parks tries to control high densities of carp at the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge. It seems to be a never ending battle. https://outdoornebraska.gov/valentineahp/
  23. I run straight braid on all my bait-casters, and have since the 1990's. Recently switched from mono to braid/floro on my spinning gear. Love it. You will be fine!
  24. Man @A-Jay, these are great words, and just what I need to hear right now!
